For everyone wondering "what flavors am I missing?" there's a new set of pages on the All The Flavors website:
-
Top 100 - the 100 most used flavors in all recipes, public and private.
-
Pop 100 - the 100 most popular flavors, measured by page views. (With some light anti-cheating added)
-
Hot 100 - the 100 most popular flavors this week.
If you have a free account, all three will indicate which flavors you have - and which ones you might need. Clicking on the flavor name will show you flavor testing notes (if there are any) entered by one of the flavorists chosen from here on /r/DIY_eJuice and public recipes using that flavor and in-stock availability at several retailers.
These pages also work if you don't have an account.
If you think of ways to make this more useful let me know, if I can do it, I will.
Really solid idea to implement, keep up the awesome work! My one month trial runs out today but I will be subbing for a year tomorrow (payday). Looking forward to seeing how it continues to grow and develop over that time.
Would be awesome if there were sub categories of the 100s lists.. Like if there was top 20 creams, fruits, tobaccos, etc.
Very cool feature!
I hear you - tagging all of the flavors that may go on those lists would be a lot of work, but it probably would be worthwhile.
Could it not be user moderated? When adding new flavor there could be a box where the user ticks off the correct category.. tobacco, fruit, etc. Then when clicking on any given flavor, if category is incorrect, it could be reported to site admins. Might cut down on the workload. But I'm no dev so maybe this would complicate things further, I dunno.
Well, the only user that can add a flavor right now is me. :)
Some degree of crowdsourcing is possible, but I avoid it quite a bit - we've seen what a mess purely freewheeling data entry from the general public can be.
I tend to overcompensate in the other direction to make sure public common data is curated - an example would be the flavor notes, which can only be entered (and require approval) by specific flavorists chosen by trusted members of my community. This would be the same sort of thing.
That's kind of how it works right now. When creating a recipe, it lets you set the tags. Just that there is no user moderation on what tags you use. Perhaps /u/queuetue could implement necessary tagging for public recipes.
Any plans for a Windows Phone app? Would love to have the app, and I realized when buying the phone I'd miss out on support from a sizable number of different apps both major and minor, but the rest of the WP platform not to mention price drew me towards the Lumias
I don't want to piss on anyone's cornflakes, but the average really doesn't tell you much. Unless I am missing something here?
It would be helpful if users stated whether the flavour (in their recipe) is used as a primary (main flavour), secondary (supporting role) or tertiary (subtle accent). That way there would be three distinct percentages, one for each role.
Another potential along with the three different average percentages would be a value of the flavour in relation to total flavouring used in the recipe.
Eg Shisha Strawberry 4 (P) [40] 1.5 (S) [11] 0.5 (T) [2]
Where 4 = Average percentage when used as Primary flavour. (P)
[40] = Percentage of strawberry VS the other flavourings in the recipe. (Same as the figure when you make a base)
1.5 = Average percentage when used as secondary flavour (S).
Etc etc.
AllTheFlavors isn't so much a beginner mixing app and site as it is a cleaner repository for recipes than ELR. So I don't think this function was implemented with the purpose of giving someone a starting point. This function helps users find recipe for flavors that they want to use, and they can see what flavors others are using a lot of right now.
I'm really excited for the ability to track trends and see how reddit and other mixing groups influence the current DIY trend.
So it is about ego boosts? Fair enough.
My comment was a more 'I would like to see this feature' in general rather than being specifically aimed at alltheflavours, but the thread prompted me to remember thinking about it. I do still think 3 averages for percentage would be another selling point for the subscription though.
are recipes got to have ratings and comments in the future? maybe the same with mixers?
Recipes do have comments (and mixer's notes) , although they aren't very obvious at the moment. Ratings are on the list of things to get done.
Ratings will be great, however it would be beneficial to change it up a bit. On ELR, you can just rate a recipe whatever you'd like, you don't even have to try it, comment on it or give an actual review.
A rating system that is based off of comments or reviews would be cool. Maybe to rate a recipe you have to actually mix it or leave a comment or a review...just a thought.
So how do I find these pages from the website? I see a Flavors drop down, but nothing about Top, Pop, or Hot.
These are hot from the press, and are not yet available on the site. There are a number of features on All The Flavors that for now, you just have to know about, until I feel they are ready for the general public.
This particular one I thought would resonate with the community and I'd get some good feedback over.
Yeah I love this feature it's just that the only way I know how to get to it is by clicking the links you provided in this post. I don't have an android so the only way I can use ATF is on the website. Also, what other features are unknown to me that I just need to know about rather than being able to find them on your actual site? I know $15 for the year isn't that much, but if I bought a year subscription, I'd like to be able to access all these new features without having to go through loopholes or having to "just know" about them. I don't mean to be rude at all, I just want to be able to access everything available.
Well, you're never going to have access to everything, some things are just in production, and they'll be unveiled when they get unveiled. I'm not hiding stuff, I just don't feel like it's ready for use.
If that prevents you from wanting to support, I guess I can understand, but all product development cycles are like this.
I'm confused. In the main post you said these new pages are available on the website...
one thing about all the flavors is there is no 'central location' or landing page with content or something to bring it all together and showcase stuffs.
> (NN) 10% Citric Acid
This is the top flavor in all 3 categories? All 3 links above take me to the same page with this as the top flavor. And it's not a flavor.
I'm having some troubles. Does this work on mobile? Am I doing something wrong. Do I need to be logged in?
There's obviously a bug that doesn't show the right flavors if you're not logged in. I'll fix that right away.
Sounds like a great new feature. For anyone on the fence about subscribing to this App, I've got to say it's fantastic. I was lucky enough to snag a month for free, which is about to run out and I have no doubts about paying for a year. It's such a nice clean App to work with. Of course I knew I was stuck with it once I'd gone through the effort of loading my flavor stash into it, which was actually not a lot of effort.
Personally I wish I could pay with paypal, but I understand why that's not an option, I'll just have to get my alipay working.
Anyway if you've not tried it, give it a go. You won't be disappointed.
/u/queuetue Could you possibly use this information to determine what flavors you could buy to make the widest range/most amount of different juices?
For example, say I want to buy 10 flavors, which ones could I buy to make the most juices?
