TFA Dragonfruit [Flavor Review]
submitted about 9 years ago by wh1skeyk1ngDiketones, Schmiketones

Setup: Plume Veil RDA; dual parallel @ .35Ω; cotton wicks; 45W

Testing: TFA Dragonfruit @ 3%; Aged: 2 days

Flavor description: Bright, tropical, slightly tart, tastes like a red fruit. Seems kind of candied without being overly sugary. I can't compare this to an actual dragonfruit, but to me, it is reminiscent of the cherry in RF Cherry Pie without the throat hit.

Off-flavors: None noticed

Throat hit: 3/10

Uses: This flavoring makes an excellent emulsifier due to its high triethyl citrate content. Helps blend apple + cinnamon or blends multiple fruits together. Also good around 1% for accenting single fruit like strawberry or watermelon.

Pairings: Almost any recipe with another fruit (or multiple fruits) in it.

Notes: Again, due to it's emulsifying properties, this is a fairly versatile flavor especially in fruit recipes. It isn't overly strong as a 3% standalone, but you can definitely tell a difference if you throw it in a mix at a lower %.

Sorry for saying fruit so many times.

10 times fruit. If we're counting 'fruit' in dragon fruit. And the 'fruit' in your fruity apology.

Solid review.

Love dragonfruit. Really makes Strawberry ripe 'pop', even though I super hate that word used that way.

How much do you like to add to bring out Strawberry Ripe? I have a recipe that my friends say loses its strawberry flavor after a while, wondering if this might bring it out.

1-2%

Has a bit of a spice and tart sort of taste to it in high % (like sucker punch clones). Not great on it's own but wonderful to blend together berries and fruits in general.

For me it tastes like there is EM in there, can detect the burnt/caramelised sugar note. Also has the muting properties of EM.

As for the other tastes, seems like a watered down strawberry on the whole.

I made a juice last week that I called dragon born.

6% dragonfruit (tfa)

3% sweet cream (cap)

3% v1 vanilla custard (I forget)

Let it steep for a week. Was a great summer vape. You could probably take out 1% of the Dragonfruit but I liked it when it fully steeped out in 2 weeks or at least as much as I could let it steep as I vaped it all.

I have used it at 10% with 5% Capella Sweet Guava and 5% TFA whipped cream.

Makes a nice creamy tropical flavour.

Gunna lower the dragon fruit % and add some Lychee in their next time.

How do you feel this compares to cap dragonfruit?

TFA dragonfruit is sweeter & less tart.

I have read that CAP's version is "punchier" which I would assume means it's a little more concentrated than TFA. I haven't actually tried CAP Dragonfruit though so I personally can't say from experience. I'm just going off what I've read elsewhere.

Setup: Velocity mini clone RDA; dual 6 wrap Clapton(26/36) coils @. 30Ω; full wicking; 65W.

Testing: TFA Dragonfruit @ 9%; Aged: 2 weeks.

Mouth-feel: Light on the tongue, medium density, with a slight harshness on the tail end (goes away after a week steep).

Flavor Description: A tropical flavor that tastes like an apple and a cherry had a baby (to me at least). Has a juicy brightness throughout the vape.

Off-flavors: None.

Uses: Not experienced enough to contribute to this category yet, sorry. :( Maybe I'll edit once I get more DIY knowledge.

Pairings: Goes well with many fruits, especially tropical fruits or melons.

Overall: Would make a decent top note in a fruit recipe, and tastes pretty good as a stand alone juice to me.

I'd been meaning to post a flavor review but feel I don't have enough experience to, however I'll definitely add my own notes in the comments. Thanks for creating that chance, and good review!

Edit: Grammar.

Very nice. I'd like to see more of this in the comments.

INW Dragonfruit if you want something that actually tastes like dragonfruit, & not something that tastes like pineapple, apple, pear, & other fruits with emulsifying properties.

i really enjoy the RF cherry pie , but i could always like it better with more cherry flavor? Have you tried mixing RF cherry pie with TFA dragonfruit? i added some things to RF cherry pie but it just came out muddled. Or maybe I should just take RF cherry pie standalone from 10 to 12.5% ?

I haven't tried but I would like to think it would work.

I know it is a VG based flavoring, but I made mine a 30PG mix and I think it tastes great. I know it defeats the purpose of keeping everything VG, but it does bring out more taste IMO.

awesome. I make almost all my my mixes at 30PG. I didn't buy RF because they are VG based, I bought them because I read that other found them delicious and pretty good standalone flavors. Thanks!

My go to juice right now is a TFA dragonfruit strawberry.

5% TFA dragonfruit 4% TFA strawberry ripe 5% CAP sweet strawberry 2% TFA Green apple

The green apple gives it a nice tart pop.

Old thread, but I've just got into vaping again any my friend gave me some flavors to start mixing myself. Placing an order this week. Try a "pomme-dragon" flavor. My buddy had mixed it for me a year or so ago (TFA flavors) and it had the color of mountain dew, and was the best juice I've vaped to this day. I'm not sure the ratio he used; (I'm assuming 5/5 or 7.5/7.5) or +/- whichever is the stronger flavor, but I highly suggest trying that combo! Sorry for commenting on a 4 month old thread :p

Real quick since you commented. Is 'onestopdiy' a legit/verified site? they fufill through TFA but I'm hestitant, but the price difference between TFA directly and OSDIY is significant. A 30ml from O.S is less than a 15 from TFA's site. I'm new to mixing, so I just want to get as much info as I can before I pull the trigger.

Here's the verified vendors list from the sidebar. Feel free to search any of them (or other vendors) via search bar here or google, there's tons of feedback out there. Really though, any vendor is probably going to have cheaper prices than TFA direct due to the volume discount they get and their the fact that they're basically buying 1000+mL of any flavor, then nickel and diming 10-30 mL out to folks like you and me.
