So I've been mixing for about a month, and didn't realize my calculator had the flavourings set to a default weight of about 1.04, and I never bothered to go back and change them.
Now that I've found an ADV recipe, I wanted to make batches, but I'm concerned that the weight difference is going to throw off my flavour batch. Should I be concerned?
Not really.
.04g takes a big batch to add up to something significant. For instance in a 120ml batch @ 5% you're talking about 6g vs 6.24g. It might make a difference with certain flavors, but I wouldn't stress it too much. If you're concerned just switch it back to 1g before you make a large batch.
There is no problem.
The percentages will work as long as you continue to weigh with the same assumed flavour weight.
The only time this would be a problem is if you tried making a large batch of somebody else's recipe where they have used specific flavour weights.
I haven't noticed a difference since I set my weight to 1 instead of the 1.036 I used for a year or so. I finally just set it to 1 because that's generally what everyone uses. Unless it's a vg based flavor.
I always thought that in good practice, only share your percentages when using each individual weight ?
I'm not sure what you're saying. But, generally, most have agreed to use 1 as default because we're sharing %'s. Like others have said, it usually won't make a difference except on big batches, but there are some flavors that are strong enough to change things. Like flv rich cin, or inw waffle, but people should be using dilutions of those anyway.
