Unflavored

Notes

For the entire years of 2014 - 2015 this is what I vaped. 40-60 mils a week. (Before I started MTL and now I vape about 20-30 mils a day). It took me about 3 years to finally quit smoking cigarettes after being introduced to vaping. I went through every scientific formula I could imagine. At first I thought it was VG. Then I tried to rule out every flavor to find the lowest common denominator to determine the culprit. I would find a perfect juice, after hours and hours of reading reviews and posts on forums. It would be okay for a short while and then early in the morning, later in the day, whenever. I would get sick. Another disappointment. I've never actually found out exactly what I was reacting too but after I suffered through 3 days of unflavored juice, it started to taste okay. Then good. I would go back to a flavored juice and it wasn't ever as good as my unflavored juice had developed into my palate. It finally got me to the place where I knew I would be okay without cigarettes. Finally. The Lemonchello and the Orange de Sangre is where I finally found a resting place to begin with after several failures. Then moved on to DIY and the CAP Sweet Tangerine was one of the only flavors I could tolerate after trying several single flavors, for any extended period of time.

I have been banned from 3 different Facebook DIY groups, shunned on ECF and threatened with my life, real physical violence, from a member of a local meet up who was doing DIY and had a vape bar at a night club that didn't like the fact that I was trying to promote unflavored e liquid as an option for someone to start out with if they weren't sure where the issues they may have encountered with flavored juices. It was a mess. A long journey with a personal success story. I was able to help myself where no one else could.

Nose Neat:

Odorless

Flavor Description:

Mildly sweet (from the VG). Some say they get a mild tobacco flavor similar to a Marlborough Lite cigarette. I never got that.

Off-Taste:

Really bland until you get used to it.

Pairings:

Easy to mix any flavored juice at 1 part flavor mixed to 2 parts unflavored when your bored and want something new.

Mouth Feel

Full

Throat hit:

Medium. Depending on the % of nic used.

Relatable Flavors:

Slightly sweet.

Uses:

In DIY. I use it to get a base when I've been sampling a lot of flavors. I know what this taste like so if I loose track of my taste buds I can get them settled back down with this familiar flavor. Clean out any lingering flavors when testing. Can make the more expensive juices last longer by mixing them. Inexpensive. Can mix mass quantities at time. I'm not trying to convince anyone this is the best juice of all time. If you've only ever vaped flavorings, it's boring and bland. If you ever hear of someone having any problems or concerns with the flavored juice they are vaping, this maybe a place to start into another direction.

Please if your opinion differs, or you have another review for this post it in the comments this will help the master list with multiple views in one spot.

If i'm reading this correctly.. you are just vaping vg/pg and nic. If so, do you notice a difference between vg/pg/nic suppliers? Which are your favorite?

I would love if someone did this.

This. I've always wondered if there was a difference in quality between different suppliers or different vegetable sources. I use palm-derived because it seems to be the best, but I haven't really compared it to others (and with 4 gallons, that won't happen any time soon).

I've heard that soy-derived VG has an off flavor, but that's just hearsay.

I was using soy derived VG when I first started mixing for about a month without realizing it. It definitely had harsh off taste to me, I switched to palm based and enjoy it a lot more. I also feel like it produces slightly thicker clouds but that could be mental. One odd thing I have noticed about switching to palm based VG is the color. Before my juices would be clear for the first couple of days, with the palm based VG my e liquids turn a very slight pink color as soon as it is mixed. I thought it was my nicotine reacting with the VG but it does it with most flavors even without nicotine.

I've never noticed that. Almost all of the mixes I do have creams, custards, or tobaccos though, so I'm not expecting any of them to be pink. Generally a light yellow to dark brown. The only pink juices I've made had grapefruit, dragonfruit, or pink guava in them. Oh, and green from absinthe. Looks cool as hell in my tank right now.

EDIT: what supplier do you use for VG? I'm loving Essential Depot right now.

I was vaping unflavored juice for over a year with 60VG and 40PG and I definitely could not stand some nic suppliers (some taste like hay) - especially the ones I bought cheap in some group buys. Never again - I switched back to flavored juice a year ago but I am still super picky when it comes to nicotine.

All of my friends and I switched to unflavored vaping and couldn't switch back if we tried. It is less risky in the long term simply because there are less random aromatic chemicals. It tastes phenomenal. I haven't vaped flavors in nearly a year.

Are you and your friends vaping 100% vg or vg/pg?

VG with VG based nicotine.

Some miniscule % of it is nicotine.

Just be careful with VG based nicotine. It degrades fast and requires thorough shaking before use due to it's viscosity.

Great to see this. Unflavoured is my ADV. As you say it's slightly bland initially, but after a day or so it seems to become fuller on the palette. To me the taste is similar to an extremely low % creamy RY4 mix.

So many more people on here vape unflavored than I thought. This is kinda blowing my mind right now. I've thought about it in the past, when I didn't have many flavorings, but now that I'm falling down the rabbit hole, it's never crossed my mind.

Good on you guys, seriously.

Never heard of unflavored. Just blew my mind a little lol

Really? But that's how this all started isn't it? Vaping used to be pure nicotine delivery, no frills.

Yeah lol I've just always associated vaping with flavor. That's what got me to quit smoking. Espresso flavored vape juice to be exact.

Glad to see I'm not the only flavor-paranoid vaper around. I use vg nic base and vg only that I DIY. 0-6nic depending on how I feel. The vg is naturally sweet and the clouds are nice. I like to prime coils with Kind Juice flavors and then fill the tank with my flavorless mix. It makes for a nice hint of flavor in the first fill or two. You can always add a few drops of flavor if you would like. Some of my tanks have only ever had flavorless and I'm sure the coils are in better shape than if they had flavors the whole time. Saves money and is (probably) a bit healthier. I wish there were studies that focused on flavorless max vg low nic!

I keep a bottle of 100% VG 3mg unflavored around. I still love my flavors, but sometimes I just want something plain. It definitely helps refresh my palate, and is nice when I'm having mixers block and can't decide what I want.

I also vape unflavoured. Mostly for the cost benefit.

I also vape alot of unflavored or with a very light 1-2% flavor to change it up sometimes. The overly flavored juice just ain't my thing.

I make a bottle of unflavored occasionally. Does wonders for vaper's tongue.

Nice write up.

VG actually is a flavor volatile that contributes to the overall flavor profile of your end product.

I used to get irritated, when I first started, with B&M shops that promoted all these lines of liquids, but no blank comparison, having had similar experiences with flavoring sensitivities. I stopped in one shop locally who actually did offer their liquid unflavored and was impressed with the forward-thinking nature of that simple, yet effective, offering of comparison.

It really helped me understand that I wasn't crazy and that I DO suffer from some physiological intolerance to flavors, which is why I have a predisposition to lighter flavors. Often I find most recipes overflavored; while they're not always the same, cutting/diluting to 50%, for me, they're still acceptable and sometimes better...

I still vape unflavored every now and again, when I've found a flavor/combination I have a sensitivity to. Works really well as a palate cleanser too...

I always go back to unflavored. I haven't vaped unflavored since I started making my own juice again though.

I personally don't enjoy completely unflavored liquids myself, but I enjoy just a couple drops of lemon, ethyl maltol, or coconut whenever I am tired of heavy flavors. I have at least 20 or more customers at my shop that get unflavored and that's all they enjoy. One of the customers was going to another shop and after the owner found out, he told the customer they wouldn't make it for him anymore. I still have no idea why a shop would feel threatened by juice with no flavor....
