##TFA Jackfruit##
Summary
So I'll start by saying IDK WTF a Jackfruit is, but it sounded interesting. I tested this at 5%. It's got an exotic flavor to it; almost reminds me of something you might find in the same family as a cherimoya, or a more exotic melon like papaya. The flavor is a little light, but it is very smooth and has a nice little bit of sweetness to it, so I imagine this will be good for mixes to add a bit of a tropical or exotic element.
On the Nose
Pineapple juice, sweet, candy.
Usage
Stand alone: 5%. Fairly boring by itself, but not bad. I don't think I'd want to bring it higher than this, seems like it might start to get funky.
In a mix: 1-4%
Throat
Mild.
Pairings
Pineapple, apple, pear, cherry, creams, melons, dragonfruit, stonefruits, exotic fruits.
Avoid
Coffee, Caramel, Butterscotch.
Steep
1-2 days.
Recipe Ideas
I could see this doing really well in like a Rabri, piña colada, fruit smoothie, things like that.
Jackfruit is an amazing fruit! Grows on huge trees, and each fruit can get to almost double the size of a bowling ball. Part of the flesh is incredibly sweet and tropical flavoured, other parts are used for curry (in Sri Lanka anyway) and has an almost meat-like texture and flavour. The seeds are also edible, look like large Brazil nuts, and soften with cooking - nutty/buttery flavour.
It's my favourite fruit in the world, and I only discovered it a few years ago after moving to Sri Lanka.
Anyway, that's what it is :)
Thanks for the review. I enjoy this flavor and have used it as a standalone @ 15% without any muting or chemical taste. It's mango heavy and pairs really well with most any tropical fruit.
I pair mine with sweedish fish. It's delicious!!
Ooh interesting, good idea! What %s do you like on them together?
Keep them coming I'm taking the day off. Go to figure out this goddamn cannoli. ;)
Hahaha, right on man, I'd say you deserve a bit of a break! Yeah man this is turning out to be quite the challenge. Did you eat any cannolis for a reference yet?
Did you get any sort of throat hit by it? I get a rough one when using it at any percent.
I love me some Jack Fruit, a good one tastes like apples.
Ahhh heck yes. I bought this too.. looking forward to trying it.
I was thinking Jackfruit Piña Colada. I might toss in a few % of cactus as well. Or maybe after if the flavor isn't great.
Any other good recommendations to mix with Jack fruit? also, I have some Jackfruit JAM that's really yummy.
Yeah I could see it doing really well in a piña colada recipe. Currently I'm using cherimoya in the recipe I'm working on, but am thinking the jackfruit might be a better choice to accent the pineapple. Not too sure, I haven't really mixed with it, just wanted to try it out since I had it and it piqued my interest. I would think maybe like a fruit punch sort of thing would be really nice with some jackfruit. Profile might be difficult though, piña colada is proving to be much more difficult than I anticipated.
