TFA Frosted Donut [Flavor Review]
submitted over 9 years ago by wh1skeyk1ngDiketones, Schmiketones

Setup: Plume Veil RDA; dual parallel @ .35Ω; cotton wicks; 45W

Testing: TFA Frosted Donut @ 5%; Aged: 6 days

Flavor description: Very sweet and cakey. Not an overly dense cake, but not too airy either. I would almost pass the "frosted" part off as more of a melted powdered sugar on the tongue if you will. Definitely more of a cake than a donut though.

Off-flavors: I don't taste anything off at 5%.

Throat hit: 4/10.

Uses: I can see this working as a cake, and it would likely play well in any bakery or dessert recipe.

Pairings: Fruits, creams, nuts. Could potentially benefit from the addition of a thicker cream.

Notes: To me, this comes off as more of a cake than a donut, but still a good one to have in your arsenal if you're trying to develop a tasty bakery recipe.

I've had some extra time inside today due to the weather, so I figured I would get some of these in before I'm able to get back outside lol

I thought to myself he's probably working on a strawberry cannoli topped with whipped cream

Been waiting for these donut reviews. I want a frickin' good glazed donut vape it's not even funny.

I hear you, I want one too. I picked up this version and the CAP version. Didn't get the chocolate one as I don't like chocolate vapes. So far I've had not so good luck. Went for broke by reading the Bombies post on the donut recipe they released to the public because it had to many diketon's or whatever to sell. It called for both the donut flavors I had, plus the chocolate one too. I had most all the flavors and tried to substitute were I could and obviously remove the chocolate one..... Tastes like shit. Back to the drawing board. I guess I'm gonna have to just start at the bottom with one to two flavors at a time.... But I don't know how far I'm gonna get if everyone keeps saying these donut flavors taste like play-doh.

Has anyone seen a proper donut recipe that actually contains a "donut" flavor concentrate?

A couple of us are working on building one with none of the donut concentrates currently. Here's to hoping it turns out.

There's gotta be a proper use for these donut flavors that came out.... I'm not super up on the release dates of flavor concentrates, but to me at least it seemed that the donut eJuice fad exploded around the same time these donut concentrates seem to hit the scene (that could just be me though).

I know Wayne from DIYorDIE has a bluenuts donut recipe that doesn't require any "donut" flavors. Actually just mixes it up, letting it steep. So far it doesn't smell anything like a donut, but it could taste different than it smells I guess. I believe on his recipe it said it was a shake'n vape. But I'm a firm believer or that no matter what the recipe is, it requires at least a minimum of three days before I'll vape it. I'm just weird like that I guess. I won't vape creams, custards, or milks for two+ weeks either. Although I might sneak a couple drops on a dripper here and there during the steeping process.

I think this isn't the donut you're looking for. I got more of a light, airy cakeyness, with a tiny little hint of an off-note that I could probably best describe as clay (but not Play-Doh like CAP's Glazed Donut), but more of that "melted powdered sugar" that wh1skeyk1ng aptly described than a fluffy cake.

Damn, is it possible to get a legit donut flavor then. I'm going to try.

I'll add that I get an off-note that is almost 'spice'y, like nutmeg (mixed 2-4%). It goes away (mostly) after a short steep (1-2 days). This may be a personal thing, as I haven't heard too many complaints about it.

Thanks, things like these help develop these notes a lot.

Yep, I get the same spicy note as well, but it doesn't seem to steep out for me. There's always a bit of clove/cinnamon bite there.

Thanks for the reviews. I don't know if I have a bad/old bottle, but this flavor just tastes like dust to me in whatever I've put it in.

Same here it almost tasted like sweet cardboard dust, very dry. It may have been a bad bottle though it was just a 15ml sample they had sent me.

I think this at a higher percentage with sweet cream is a good base for a donut with icing, but only after a decent steep. Add strawberry, blueberry, peanutbutter, caramel, or keep it glazed and add some icing.
