"Old-Fashioned" drink flavor suggestions.
submitted over 9 years ago by Iammisterleviathan

I really want to make an Old-Fashioned flavored juice (bourbon, club soda, bitters, cherry and orange peel) but I can't think of anything to substitute for the sour. Also, I haven't seen any club soda flavorings, so if there is anything I can substitute for that, I'd like to know as well. However, it's not necessary as I usually leave out the club soda in my drink anyway.

Also recipie suggestions are welcome as well since I'm new to mixing and don't entirely know what I'm doing when it comes to complex flavors like this.

And if you're going to suggest a recipie, I do have a PG intolerance (anything above 30PG is pretty much un-vapable for me) so the less of that, the better. I'd prefer to keep it around 80-90VG, just so the flavor is fairly strong, but the PG doesn't aggravate my throat/lungs too much.

Edit: changed sour to bitters.

A proper old fashioned is 2oz bourbon, simple syrup, bitters, and an orange peel.

You're describing a Smash(plenty of bars do this. They don't know cocktail history.) but they usually use bitters in place of sour. A Wisconsin Old Fashioned is made in this style, but with brandy and chipped ice.

Just clearing up misconceptions lol, I don't have a hand on enough flavors to play around with and make one yet. I'll be sure to post it when I do.

9 times out of 10 when I order an Old Fashioned I have to ask how the bartender makes it, and when they comeback and tell me they put soda water in I have to tell them not to, and to remove the muddled orange and cherry before adding the whiskey.

I've never seen an old fashioned made with sour... Perhaps you are thinking of the bitters? If so maybe a tiny drop of clove flavoring would replicate the taste.

You are absolutely correct, I was in a rush when typing this out.

So clove flavoring? Hmmm. I'll try it out.

TFA champagne for club soda.

TFA Champagne with a little bit of TFA Lemon-lime gives a really good boozey-soda feeling without altering the flavor too much.

I use mts vape AND bitter wizard around 40/60 or 50/50 ratio at 1%. Havent tested it enough to give you an exact mix.

FW Blood Orange has a nice orange upfront and bitter rind taste at the end. Gives that bite. The bitters are usually herbal in origin. I'd think some of the grapefruits and/or the FW Blood Orange will get you 50% of the way there.

I would like to vape a Cherry lime Ricky flavor. Like the old school Snapple drink. I miss that.

Try Flavourart's new Sour Wizard...it's different from the other sours (LA, FW, TFA)...its very sour, almost a savory note...not much sweet- goes great in Jolly Rancher type recipes- I use it at 1% with any fruit-
