Setup
Aeronuat RDA, single fused clapton, 40w
Prep
- 70/30 VG/PG
- Nic 0%
- 0.1%, 0.5%, 2%
You must dilute to use properly in a recipe.
Mouth Feel
Medium body. It has a slight initial throat hit, but so far I've suffered no irritation from it. Similar vaping a high PG mix.
Flavor Properties
Assertively savory and starchy with a strong coconut essence. Very earthy and root-like. It's definitely like nothing else
Relatable Flavors
Taste like biting into a raw white potato drenched in coconut oil
Off Flavors
No real off-flavor as it's rather authentic. Though it is a very unique and an acquired taste. Very enjoyable if you appreciate this kind of flavoring. Exceptionally overpowering and does get bitter as at very high percentages > 1%.
Position In The Recipe
Base or Background. I believe that using this flavor at a high enough percentage to use as a top-note is going to completely overshadow everything else, unless paired paired with equally assertive flavors.
Pairings
I used it in a boba tea recipe to mimic the tapioca flavor. It ended up standing out way too much, but turned into something even better.
I could see this being used in lots of weird and interesting ways, just as you would use normal taro root in a recipe. One of it's stronger pairings would be in bakery and dessert flavorings.
You could use this as a coconut flavoring since it has zero floral or sun tan lotion flavors, just as people use marzipan for cherry.
Suggested Steep Time
1-2 weeks
This flavoring definitely benefits from a long steep. The potent throat hit of the raw root-like potato flavor falls off into the back a bit and mellows out. Ends up tasting slightly 'cooked' and less sharp.
Overall Rating
90/100
It's quite niche and not really a flavor for beginners, but I really like this flavoring a lot. Once I get a better feel for what it pairs well with, I can see myself using this flavor quite a good bit.
Cool, running out to never buy this!
Yeah, it's definitely not for everyone. Especially if you prefer traditionally over-sweetened american stylized desserts.
very little historically has been understood about the flavor of cassava root and it is subject to a lot of research somewhat recently. The whole point for me of the tapioca in boba tea is the texture, so I'm not sure what measure of success efforts made towards bringing forth that note I would expect to see. Typically trying to translate the flavor of very texture identifiable real life foods into vaping doesn't workout so well for me.
I still have this bookmarked if you're curious - http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.1080/19476337.2015.1074944
Good read. I really enjoy when those research papers are broken down and easy to digest like that one.
TFA Pie Crust contains appreciable amounts of 3-Methyl butanol and Furfural. I'm pretty sure INW Sesame contains 2-AP (I'd imagine FA Bread Crust does as well). What I've done for 1-octen-3-one in rice is CAP NY Cheesecake, or you could take a walk on the wild side and try using a little FA lavender, I've had some success with it for creating the typically missing earthy elements of octenol like compounds.
you could maybe try a stab at it with this -
- 0.50% TFA Pie Crust
- 0.05-0.125% INW Sesame
- 0.20% CAP NY Cheesecake or FA Lavender
Here's another link on cassava flavor with the classic ball buster "the compounds likely to contribute to the sweet cassava-like aroma of the vegetable have not been identified".
I'll just leave this here for all of you :)
Looks like you need a good recipe for Taro:
Coconut Taro Ice Cream
- 4% Coconut LorAnn
- 2% Vienna Cream FA
- 2% Fresh Cream FA
- 2% Sweet Cream TFA
- 0.2 - 0.4% Taro TFA (depending on preference)
Thank you!
I just ordered LA coconut and should have it tomorrow. Pretty excited to try this.
What was LA Coconut like? Do I need to buy it if I want to try /u/BooksofMagic 's Coconut Taro Ice Cream recipe in this thread, or can I make a reasonable sub out of some combination of TFA Coconut, FA Coconut, INW Coconut, and TFA Coconut Candy?
What's the recipe for the boba flavor?
I'm still working on it. I'll post it when I feel it's complete.

Been looking for something to mimic the tapioca for boba tea. Did you use it pre or post dilution?
I used it post dilution at 0.2%.
To mimic the tapioca, you might want to try around 0.05-0.1%. As I mentioned, it's really potent.
Cool, thanks. I'll have to pick up a small bottle.
We were just talking about Taro flavoring on the Saturday DIY show. I thought it would be good in a boba tea and came across it when ordering more flavors. I think it was a different brand though. Does anyone have experience w/ this flavor overall and can recommend the best one?
Tried it today for the first time. At 1%. Tastes like a plateful of raw potatoes with a few cooked turnips thrown in for fun, all topped with a coconut sauce that has just the slightest hint of peanut butter in it.
I'm convinced you could make a passable French Fries with Ketchup recipe using this, plus FA Joy, FA Liquid Amber, FA Ripe Tomato, and FA Soffrito. Of course if you were bent on french fry juice and liked ordering savory flavors direct from FA, you could just get FA Fried Potato, but then it wouldn't taste like your fries were undercooked in coconut oil. And who doesn't want their fries to be undercooked in coconut oil, amirite?
