Prelude
I'm a big fan of Vapor Trails NW's Sasquatch clone so I did the only natural thing any DIY-er would do. I cloned it. I'm confident that this is a spot-on clone, based on Matt's prior flavour reviews, recipe disclosure along with a couple little hints here and there.
First off, the vendor's flavour description:
> This NW blend features wild berries, nuts from the orchard, and fresh sweet cream swiped from a farmers' barn! Well, not literally, but that's how sasquatch rolls.
The Berry
Now we all know Matt is a big fan of TFA and CAP. So based on the description alone, I knew almost immediately that TFA Blueberry Wild is being used. But at what percentage? In Matt's flavour reviews, he listed Blueberry Wild at 8% and up. So let's go with that for now. Initially, I thought it was just blueberry wild. But my gut tells me that he has included a second berry, a strawberry. After several versions with/without, I am convinced there is a touch of TFA Strawberry Ripe. So I've added that at 4%, too.
The Nut
One whiff and you can tell immediately that it's TFA hazelnut. It's potent. It's creamy. And very very rich. Going back to his flavour reviews, he has also confirmed that he's a big fan of TFA Hazelnut at up to 1.5%. So the nut is done.
Cream
Now for the cream. From the flavour description, we know that he's using a sweet cream to give it that almost milky, sour note. There are a couple different options to choose from here. TFA. CAP. FW. But based on Matt's review and past recipes, he uses TFA Sweet Cream at a maximum of 3%. So bam, the cream is done. Or is it?
Extra
This one took a bit of time and digging to figure out. After tasting the initial recipe, I realized it was missing a milky aspect. I was contemplating using FA Fresh Cream or FA Milk to accomplish that, but I am fairly confident that Matt doesn't use FA. So I settled for TFA Dairy at 1%. This was further reinforced by Matt's fondness of combining Sweet Cream at 3% with Dairy at 1% as evidenced in his banana strawberry milkshare recipe below:
Bananaberry Milkshake
10% Banana Cream (TFA)
8% Strawberry ripe (TFA)
3% Sweet Cream (TFA)
1% Dairy (TFA)
THE RECIPE
Okay fuckers, boring part is over. Now for the interesting bit. Without further ado, here is the recipe:
Yeti's Milk
-
TFA Blueberry Wild 8%
-
TFA Strawberry Ripe 4%
-
TFA Hazelnut 1.5%
-
TFA Sweet Cream 3%
-
TFA Dairy 1%
Let this bad boy steep for a week or two so the creamy properties of the hazelnut, sweet cream and dairy can mingle with one another. The result is a flavorful mixed berries inhale with undertones of nut and cream.
He has also released a v2 version which does not have acetones/diketones. I presume he's using DX versions of Hazelnut/sweet cream from TFA. The taste will differ and steeping times may take a little longer.
So there you have it, ladies and gents. This is pretty much my clone of Vapor Trails' Sasquatch. Is it identical? Yes, from my recollection, it's close, very close.
P.S. Matt has stated that he uses EM/Sucralose in his recipes. If you would like it to be 100% accurate, you will need to play around with it. Right now, I'm perfectly content with it.
Finito
I would like to conclude this by saying Matt from Vapor Trails is a really swell guy. He has done a lot for this community and his juice company is awesome. If you like my clone, go out and support him by getting his juice. It's worth every penny!
Wait a sec, I thought you left. Welcome back, and thanks for awesome contribution!
Sick of my 10 ML testers not making to a decent steep- made up a 50 ML of it. I'll let you know how it comes out.
This is pretty much identical to the clone I posted, sans Strawberry. It's def gonna be close.
My process of cloning Sasquatch followed a very similar process - looking at all of Matt's TFA notes and previous recipes and inferring how he would mix those flavors. My attempts have been very similar and I'm close enough to the original where I haven't toyed with it in awhile.
I've been using TFA Bavarian Cream in it, but I think the Dairy route is probably closer to the original!
Mixed up the Sasquatch clone. But I swapped the hazelnut for FW and the dairy for fresh cream. Holy fuck this is just like the original version of Sasquatch with all the delicious diketones. Thank you so much for this recipe.
Edit: used same percentages for the flavor swaps I did for anyone interested in doing so.
