Weekly 'Suggest a Recipe for my Flavors' Thread - Week of June 03, 2016
submitted over 9 years ago by AutoModerator

Got a bunch of flavors but not sure how to make them work together? Post your list here, and our team of semi-professional mixologists will make suggestions for you! If you are impatient and want to do this on your own, here are a couple of good links:

  • /u/daath has a nice website that has this functionality, but you will need to register to make it work. It is not very intuitive but if you work with it you can input your flavors and get a list of recipes that you can make. IMO this is the better site if you have the patience to make it work for you. Edit2: to get this to work, first set up an account. Then add your flavors to the stash (under my page / my flavor stash). hit save. Then go back to the front page and click the link next to the search field, "Search by flavor stash". You can select a couple of your flavors and recipes that have those will pop up.
  • This site has a nice big search button with just what you're looking for.

Happy Mixing!

Daath's site is great. Question though. When inputting flavors, is it better to select a flavor with more attached recipes (as noted in the parentheses) or actually select the flavor and manufacturer? My first order is coming in from Nicvape and the recipes associated with the flavors are somewhat limited.

by coop34over 9 years ago

Select the flavor and manufacturer. The database over there has become hopelessly convoluted by people not entering the same way. But still a great resource, just may take some playing around to get used to it.

Alltheflavors.com is a new site, with a similar function. Give it a look too!

That site is pretty good, but maybe I'm dumb but I can't find a recipe search.

1 points

by coop34over 9 years ago

I was referring to the "what can I make?" function. I imagine a search feature may be added later, after enough recipes are added.

2 points

by goldfish18over 9 years ago

Yes, choose the one that is most popular or has the most recipes, but also make sure it's the right manufacturer. That way when you try something like the what can I make, you are given more options.

Hi all! Below is what I have. I just started DIY a little while ago so my selection is limited. So far strawberry/dragonfruit/VBIC and key lime custard are my best mixes. I would really like a pineapple upside down cake and a decent strawberry banana but can't seem to get the mixes right.

Here is what I have. All TFA:

-VBIC
-Vanilla Custard
-Vanilla Cupcake
-Whipped Cream
-Brown Sugar
-Pineapple (juicy)
-Banana (ripe)
-Strawberry (ripe)
-Key Lime
-Cheesecake
-Dragonfruit

Any ideas are appreciated!

by ID10-Tover 9 years ago

What have you tried for pineapple upside down cake? Maybe it just needs few minor tweaks.

Also, is that Cheesecake (Graham Crust) or just Cheesecake?

2 points

by Pvt_Donkeyover 9 years ago

It is just cheesecake. Honestly it tastes like melted butter no matter how I try to mix it.

For the pineapple upside down cake i have tried:

2.5% pineapple
.5% brown sugar
8% vanilla cupcake
1% whipped cream

That is probably the best mix i have made so far but it is missing the syrupyness of pineapple upside downdown cake.

Sorry if the formatting of this is shitty. I am on mobile right now.

by ID10-Tover 9 years ago

> just cheesecake.

That one's just gross.

Try increasing the Whipped Cream to 2%, lowering the Vanilla Cupcake to 7%, and adding 0.5% Dragonfruit. Try it freshly shaked if you want, but be sure to let some of it sit for at least a week.

That's probably the best I can do with the flavors you've got. If you're looking at buying more flavors to get a better PUC, or to make a "decent" strawberry banana, I can recommend some for you.

Try...

  • 4% Strwbrry
  • 1-2% key lime
  • 0.5-1% brown sugar

you can probably shake n vape it, might be better after 24hrs

im taggin /u/nissanz33 bc they can make this as well

Hi all. Pretty new to the DIY scene. I'd like to see some suggestions by you guys that are much more experienced than I.

These are the flavors I have currently.

  • Apple Pie v2 (Cap)
  • Brown Sugar Extra (TFA)
  • Cheesecake (Graham Crust) (TFA)
  • Cherry Concentrate (Inawera)
  • Cinnamon Danish Swirl v2 (CAP)
  • Cinnamon Red Hot (TFA)
  • Dulce de Leche (TFA)
  • DX Bavarian Cream (TFA)
  • French Vanilla v1 (Cap)
  • Fresh Cream (FA)
  • Fuji Apple (FA)
  • Graham Cracker (Clear) (TFA)
  • Lemon Sicily (FA)
  • Malted Milk (TFA)
  • Meringue (FA)
  • Marshmallow (TFA)
  • Nonna's Cake (FA)
  • Rice Crunchies (TFA)
  • Strawberry (TFA)
  • Strawberry (Ripe) (TFA)
  • Sugar Cookie (Cap)
  • Sugar Cookie v2 (Cap)
  • Sweet Cream (TFA)
  • USA Mix (Hangsen)
  • Vanilla Bean Ice Cream (TFA)
  • Vanilla Custard v1 (Cap)

As you can see, I am more into the deserts. I've made a decent Vanilla Custard and Strawberry Milkshake.. Any suggestions?

If you're like me and like sugar cookies made with about twice as much butter and twice as much vanilla as the recipe calls for, try this simple sugar cookie recipe: 8% CAP Sugar Cookie, 4% CAP Vanilla Custard.

Then, if you like that, you could experiment with adding a third or third+fourth ingredient the next time around, such as Cinnamon Danish Swirl (Snickerdoodle Cookie), Dulce de Leche (Caramel Cookie?), Lemon Sicily (Lemon Cookie), Nonna's Cake + Lemon Sicily (Italian Lemon Cake Cookie?), Strawberry + Vanilla Bean Ice Cream (Strawberry Frosted Sugar Cookie), etc.

by NissanZ33over 9 years ago

Thanks. I will definitely give that a shot tonight. I assume that I should give it at least a week or so before trying it since it has the custard in it?

2 points

by ID10-Tover 9 years ago

Try some freshly shaked first and then put the rest away to steep for a week and observe how it's changed.

by ThomasMinotaurover 9 years ago

Every time I use cap sugar cookie above 4% I just get a burned cookie taste. Even with cap VC 2%, TFA VBIC 3% and TFA cheesecake graham crust 2% to smooth it out. It always smells fantastic, but the taste is too off putting anywhere from 60-150w.

1 points

by ID10-Tover 9 years ago

I could easily imagine that happening because I have a couple of flavors that I know have unpleasant off-notes that come out bad at a much lower %age at a higher wattage than they do at a lower wattage. This is the first I've heard of sugar cookie being one of them and 8% tastes great at my usual 35w, but...

Hey, /u/NissanZ33, what's your setup? If you're vaping 60w+, you might want to lower that Sugar Cookie %. Probably lower the VC proportionally as well so it's still 2:1 cookie-custard ratio.

try

  • 2-3% fuji
  • 1% meringue
  • and like 0.3-1% lemon sicily

You could try something like a peanut butter sandwich with mixed berry jam: Peanut Butter TFA 5%, CAP Vanilla Custard 1%, FW Yellow Cake 2.5%, CAP Harvest Berry 4%, TFA Strawberry 3%

Or depending on what you like in a jelly you could swap the Strawberry out for Strawberry Ripe 3%, CAP Sweet Raspberry 3%, or FA Bilberry 1%

OR you could make the Mixed Berry Milkshake /u/ajsam3 posted last month, possibly with some of your TFA Vanilla Bean Ice Cream added if you want a thicker, less milky ice cream shake:

  • Cap harvest berry: 5%
  • Cap vanilla custard v1: 2%
  • FA fresh cream: 1%
  • FA meringue: 1.5%
  • TFA vanilla swirl: 4%

by ajsam3over 9 years agoProud Sidebar Reader!

If you add VBIC I would lower the vanilla swirl a bit. Maybe even remove fresh cream. If you mix this recipe as it is above you'll get a wonderfully rich, milky berry shake that I sure enjoy a lot.

2 points

by ThomasMinotaurover 9 years ago

I'll try both these once I get back to my home state. I've been itching for a peanut butter recipe but I didn't have enough time to mess with it before I had to leave. If TFA peanut butter not very creamy? That's the only reason why I would see custard going in that recipe.

I do need a different fruity cream because I've been vaping strawberry cream variations for too damn long.

1 points

by ID10-Tover 9 years ago

It's a little dry, 1% VC makes it extra creamy. Unless there's some other creamy ingredient, I wouldn't make something with peanut butter as the main flavor without. Really any cream would do, just smoothing it out into creamy PB instead of extra crunchy. You could also try different combinations of your biscuit, sugar cookie, AP, and cheesecake graham crust instead of/in addition to yellow cake until you get the bready part just the way you want it.

Did you see ajsam3's comment about his mixed berry milkshake?

Have you already tried Fizzmustard's Nana Cream? 5% LA Banana Cream, 3% TFA Dragon Fruit, 7% TFA Strawberry

2 points

by Billtron3000over 9 years ago

I have! It's really nice. It blanks my palette pretty quickly though. AAAND I think i'm one of those people who can't taste strawberry very well. waaaahhhhhhhhh :'(

I might try some sucralose maybe, I've heard that can work.

Any other recipes that harness that banana cream goodness?

2 points

by ID10-Tover 9 years ago

Unfortunately, I don't have any other tried-and-true recipes using both LA Banana Cream and the other flavors in your arsenal, but we can try to experiment and come up with something. Try:

LA Banana Cream 4%, Blueberry Wild 1%, Vanilla Bean Ice Cream 4%, Dragonfruit 2%... Very loosely based on Bombies' Kiss the Ring.

And

6% LA Banana Cream, 4% TFA VBIC, 4% TFA Graham Cracker Clear, 1% FA Cookie, 1% CAP Sweet Cream... Should come out tasting something like 'nana puddin with 'nilla wafers.

Just got my first order. I've done a few good things that I like. A simple strawberry and cream. Black Cherry and Cream (which I am adoring). I tried the flavors by themselves and am thinking of a few things, but some suggestions would be very much appreciated! I tried ECR and didn't come up with much. I don't have a huge selection as of yet.

  • Black Cherry TFA
  • Boston Cream Pie v2 TFA
  • Butter Cream CAP
  • Cantaloupe TFA
  • Graham Cracker CAP
  • Mango TFA
  • Maraschino Cherry TFA
  • NY Cheesecake TFA
  • Papaya TFA
  • Strawberry TFA
  • Super Sweet CAP (Probably won't use it much)
  • Sweet Cream CAP
  • Sweet Strawberry CAP
  • VBIC TFA and CAP
  • Vanilla Custard v1 CAP

Have you tried making a cherry cheesecake? I haven't tried TFA Black Cherry so I'm not sure what % to use and not wind up with that cough syrup flavor, but for the cheesecake part, try: 6% CAP NY Cheesecake, 2% CAP Graham Cracker, 1% CAP Sweet Cream, 1% CAP VBIC. Also, you might find that adding just a little TFA or CAP Sweet Strawberry will elevate the cherry without imparting too much strawberry taste to it.

Have you made Mustard Milk yet?

2 points

by Sleepers_Demonover 9 years ago

Haven't tried the Mustard Milk yet, but I hear it's all the rage. I'll have to whip up a batch today.

Cherry cheescake sounds like a great idea. Using the TFA Black Cherry, I haven't had much cough syrup flavor, surprisingly. I used a low percentage when I tried it alone, though. My black cherry and cream recipe is 8% TFA Black Cherry and 6% CAP Sweet Cream. As a shake and vape I love it, but the cream isn't too noticable. It just cuts the black cherry nicely and makes it very smooth. I whipped up a 15ml to lwt it steep to see if the cream will get... Creamier.

I'll give that Cheescake a try and see what happens. I'll try 4% and see what happens and report back! Thank you!

2 points

by Sleepers_Demonover 9 years ago

As a shake and vape, it's kinda bland. Definitely needs a steep. The TFA Black Cherry definitely sits on top at 4%, but it isn't overpowering at this point. It has a wonderful smell, though. I made enough for it to steep, so I'll report back.

2 points

by ID10-Tover 9 years ago

That was fast! Yeah, I should have warned you, cheesecake needs a week's steep. Depending on how much you made, 1 small droplet of that CAP Super Sweet probably wouldn't hurt, either.

Reformatted yours a bit. With that much ingredients a site like ELR and Alltheflavors would probably help a lot. It'll take a bit to get all of that inputted but then you can just search the entire DB by mixes you can make and sort by score.
