FA Torrone
submitted about 9 years ago by wh1skeyk1ngDiketones, Schmiketones

Special thanks to /u/Chrisdvr1 for unknowingly letting me jack his formatting.

Rda/ Plume Veil

% Used/ 4% coil/ dual parallel 24awg w/ 45

Steep time/ 1 week wicking/ Full

Mouth Feel - Robust, sharp, sits on the tongue, relatively thick at this percentage. Decent throat hit.

Flavor Properties- Nutty, creamy wet sugar, a bit of fruit loops, small hints of chocolate, powdered sugar, and maybe some ginger.

Relatable Flavors - The popular Spanish confectionery "turrón." Amarula liquor from South Africa with less sugar.

Off Flavors - Carries a very slight lemony disinfectant scent, but I personally do not taste lemon, just a sharp note that I can somewhat relate to ginger root.

Position in the recipe - Most would consider this a supporting flavor at lower percents (0.5-1%), however some people's taste buds might enjoy this as part of a base or a top note (3-4%+)

Pairings - Tobaccos, bakeries, nuts, chocolates, citrus fruits.

Conclusion - This flavor has a lot of depth. There are so many layers, and so much going on especially once you reach higher percentages. While I think it does well in almost any recipe at the right percentage, it is definitely a flavor that could be hated as easily as it is loved. <3

Your not alone dude. I haven't been able to get any help from this subreddit. Everyone is on their high horse. "Oh you didn't know the answer to the question you asked? Let me shame you into never wanting to post again" this subreddit should be more helpful. Instead I meet 90% narcissist

Edit for auto correct.

I catch myself being that way from time to time, maybe because other users have rubbed off on me. I guess my biggest pet peeve is when someone asks something that is clearly answered in the sidebar. I spent an entire day reading and re-reading it, and also refer back to it on occasion. It's an extremely useful tool that some people put a lot of time into making. (The reddit search function, not great, but there's a way to use google with reference to this sub to find info)

I'm not about to let Billy Bob waltz in here and ask for a good strawberry cream recipe so he can stroll right back out and sell it to all of his vape bros while they jerk him off over how amazing it is. On the same token, if someone is legitimately struggling with a certain aspect of a recipe and they need a nudge, I don't have a problem with helping out a bit as long as I can see they've actually tried. It's just frustrating to see repeated low-effort posts end up at the top of the sub, but when something useful actually gets contributed, people start clicking the down arrow .

This is quality stuff here, as is everything I have seen you post.

Have an upvote!

All of my stupid questions go to the new mixers thread. Found that even though it doesn't apply to me per se (according to my redditor time it does though), it's just the easiest.

I'd like to thank whoever down voted this post right off the bat. I'll be sure to not contribute any more flavor reviews.

Maybe I'll just stick to posting "what is the best (insert any) flavor" or "please give me a recipe with x, y, and z flavors." Hell, I'll even throw in a "Nude Nicotine screwed up my order for the 17th time! Boohoo!"

FWIW, I literally upvote every god damn one of these concise flavor reviews before I even read them. They're incredibly useful, and anyone putting in the effort has earned my thanks.

Flavor reviews are one of the most important pieces of information we have as mixers. Solid review, I never thought of using it at higher than 1%! Even if it's a flavor that's been reviewed before, if you take notes on something and they're different experiences, that's still good information to share IMO

You're gonna get that man. Just keep chugging along with them, we appreciate it. BTW, who gives a fuck about up or down votes, I dgaf.

It was sitting at -6. I thought maybe I did something wrong... searched "torrone", didn't find a review, then wondered how I developed a group of haters. The votes I don't care about, but I wondered what other people's problem was with my post there for an hour. I guess even after ~1 year of reading nearly every post, I don't understand this sub very well.

I'm almost certain that there are shitty juice makers who troll this subreddit looking for recipes to steal. The posts that genuinely teach people how to be better mixers get downvoted pretty fast by them, but as you can see, quality posts quickly get upvoted back up by people who want to see this subreddit be a better place.

I get downvoted all the time, but most of my posts end in the positive.

For what it's worth, Reddit has of necessity a ton of anti-spam defences that screw up the votes on new posts to confuse and deter spam bots.

Really, dude? Get over it. It's the internet. When you post anything, you're putting yourself under scrutiny.

I get a strong lemon taste from the bottle of torrone I have. I had to remove it completely from Wayne's bluenuts recipe

I've read that from others before, but for the life off me, I cannot actually taste it in Torrone. Maybe I've ruined my lemon senses from over-doing FA Lemon Sicily...

I've seen quite a fair few of these single flavour reviews posted here and over at cloudcollective. Imo a lot of them are using ridiculously high percentages.

FA Torrone for example, I use it as a standalone flavour at 2% absolute max. Anything over that and I get a very potent chemical aspect and the sweet almond destroys any of the delicate flavour. It's fantastic as a supporting flavour but when you use it as a primary you've lost some of the magical elements.

Same as someone who reviewed Chocolate Brownie by TFA a few days ago. They used it at I think 5% which is absolutely crazy since at 0.2% it typically overwhelms a recipe, at 1% a faint hint of burnt tire will start to grow.

I use torrone at 0.2 for a mild sugary almond and citrus, 0.4 for a strong citrus with heavy nutty tones and 0.6-1 for mixes that revolve around torrone being a primary flavour.

In cases like that, input like yours may be very helpful, so keep pointing these things out 👌

I honestly did this just because I could, and because my 30mL bottle of Torrone will probably go bad before I use it all. (I made a 30mL bottle at 4% just to see how it changed throughout a steep) Up until I mixed this standalone, I had been using it 0.5-1% as a supporting note. I wanted to see how truly nasty it could become, but was pleasantly surprised by it's depth and deliciousness. I've been wanting to dive into tobacco mixes, and I think this is a perfect flavor to incorporate into a tobacco blend. That being said, I get that it isn't for everyone, but for people with a "sweet tooth" for bitter and robust flavors such as myself, I think this is a must have in your arsenal.

It was fuge brownie and here is a list of reviews from bcv no good info on it any where else and with TFA conventional wisdom is start at about 5% ( liked it ) if you think it will help can start advertising readers that I test at high % for a single flavor and would mix it at a lower %

Its ok at 6 to 7% but don't try it till it sits for a few week has a funky taste but gets better with age. Best to add to custards or peanut butter.

Very accurate torrone notes, I basically do the same.

There's nothing worse than that cleaner-tasting lemon balm extract they try to pass off as actual lemon flavor.

I love this flavour. My only gripe with it is how potent it is. A couple of drops of this and it's all you can taste. It excels really well when used in cheesecakes btw.

I mixed up /u/Vurve 's Almond Chocolate Ice Cream with this, and it really adds some good depth to it, it's only a few days old but this stuff is delicious. really good for backing up almond and chocolates.

Just a quick side note, some people get a fishy off flavor from FA torrone. I've gotten so many private messages about this, but never seen it posted.

Hmm, I could see what they're talking about, but I get more of a light cherry and nutty taste. I even put a little bit in my coffee and the cherry flavor really came out.

Thanks for posting this! I just mixed up the following based on your notes:

3% Torrone 3% Double Chocolate Clear (TFA) 2% Vanilla Classic (FA) 1% Bavarian Cream (TFA) 0.5% Catalan Cream (FA) 0.5% Hazelnut (FA)

The chocolate and Torrone are so nice together - adds a little nougaty, citrusy bite to an otherwise kind of dull flavor. The maple from the BC helps with the balance, and I threw in the vanilla to mellow out the lemon a little. If I do it again, I'll up the hazelnut, because I'd like to taste a little more nuttiness (maybe will add a tiny amount of Nut Mix) but it's very, very good! I'll have to see how it ages, but I doubt the bottle will last long enough.
