OK new mixers, this is your thread to ask any questions you want of the DIY eJuice community. All posts are allowed, but we still encourage you to use the sidebar and search features before asking any questions.
- Placing your first DIY order and want to make sure you have all you need?
- Not sure about how to mix your first bottle?
- Want to get started but aren't sure how?
- Any other questions? ... then this is the thread for you. FWIW, the answers to the first three questions will eventually be found in the wiki (still in development); link at the top of the page.

Who are some of the best mixers here that I need to follow? Once I get started and do a few simple recipes I wanna look at some of the great mixers of the community and check out their recipes. Who are the highest rated mixers that need followed?
Check all the monthly recipe threads and look at the top rated recipes from each month. Those are some of the recipes this sub has rated highly. For example, in the search bar you can type June 2016 Recipe Thread for this month's. May 2016 Recipe Thread for last month's yadda yadda
Can certain flavors make cotton breaks?
I've never had cotton break at all.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding?
If you mean if certain flavors can break/stain your cotton beyond recognition. Yes it can, just go try FW Dragonfruit, and you'll see how bad it can get.
I have a question that I'm not sure belongs here, but I recently got a bottle of juice that is 120ml and its 0mg strength, however I normally prefer 3mg. Is there anywhere I can get just enough nicotine for this bottle? I'm not entirely ready to go the DIY route yet.
First I would check any B&M stores in your area, they may give you enough. You only need around 3.5ml of 100ml/mg for that bottle.
Or if you really like that juice you could try getting a 120ml of 6mg, mix them together.
And as a last resort, if you don't mind waiting on a slow processing and ship out time, nude nicotine will send you a 15ml sample for 2-3 bucks. CAUTION: They have been extremely slow lately, like slower than their normal slow. BUT they do have a high quality product. You just can't be in a hurry:)
Thank you for the reply, I tried B&M stores first, but they all said it was a liability. So I looked into a bottle of 100mg/ml and it was about $40 for a half liter which I think is good, I don't really know. But I ended up doing the buy a 6mg and mix them. I just need to figure out the logistics of mixing 2 full 120 bottles.
So I just got into DIY and I'm just doing single flavor tests right now, usually using e-liquid recipes to find the average mixing %. I've run into an issue with TPA/TFA Vanilla Custard though because there is only one recommendation on ELR and it's for 1%.
I also searched here/Google but the only thread I found was two years old and didn't really help either.
So my question is at what percentage should I use/start with TPA's Vanilla Custard at in a single flavor test?
Edit: Grammar. Edit 2: Found it on ELR, I had it entered the wrong way.
Hello dear Redditor, as you might already know ELR is a bit messy because of the duplicates of some concentrates. I although believe that you are viewing one of the duplicates of the TFA Vanilla Custard. The main TFA Vanilla Custard on ELR is this https://e-liquid-recipes.com/flavor/6680
When mixing, how do you go about using multiple flavours? Any rules of thumb you follow when mixing with multiple flavours, such as percentages?
When I'm mixing two flavors together for the first time, I'll usually use whatever % both of them tasted best at when I tried them separately. Then if there is any unwanted effects, for example they taste floral or perfumy or medicinal or otherwise gross, I'll reduce them both. Or if one is dominating the other and I don't want it to, I'll reduce that one. If I already know going in that I want more of one flavor than the other, I might start with the lesser flavor at half of the good standalone %.
If what id10 said sounds like too much work you can also spend some time looking into people's notes and stuff, then choose your percentages and adjust accordingly.
Ideally the other way is better, but takes up more time/resources and with my way you'll sometimes have no idea what's causing a certain taste issue until you mess with things a few times.
Trying to find a smokey flavour to add to my custard.
Was thinking a rich tabacco flavour or a woody smoke but I am just unsure.
Anyone got any ideas??

I bought 250ml of 100mg nicotine in VG. Before I took the plastic seal off, I shook it rigorously for about 15-20 min and then separated it into 30ml blue cobalt bottles and stuck them in a cardboard box in my freezer. Did I do okay on the storage for my nicotine?
-
I made a batch of:
TFA key lime - 3.5% TFA strawberry ripe - 2.5% At 70vg/30pg with 6mg nicotine
It has a pretty decent throat hit and is kinda bitter, is that due to the nicotine or the key lime flavor?
- Also when I go to use my nicotine should I shake it up?
Key Lime usually needs another lime or some sweetness to really balance that harshness out. I usually use key Lime and Lime Tahity cold pressed together in my mixes
I bought a 150ml beaker to make larger batches of juice instead of 30//60ml batches. If I sepearate juice from the beaker into 30ml//60ml bottles a few hours after mixing will it maintain consistency? If I shouldn't do that, is it ok to plastic wrap the beaker and let it steep in there?
You should probably pour your juice from your beaker into the 30/60mL bottles right away rather than waiting a few hours. Unless you have a reason to wait a few hours.
I mean I guess it would be fine to plastic wrap the beaker, but I don't think that's ideal for storage.
any recommendations on how to mix it before splitting it up into bottles? My only concern was the flavor and nicotine wouldn't' be evenly distributed if I split it into different bottles right away. I don't have a magnetic stirrer but would going at it with a fork or whisk do the trick?
You could use something like this to mix it up, but honestly I'd just make your juice straight into your 30mL or 60mL bottles. That way you ensure everything is properly mixed and you can shake it after you cap it. The milk frother I linked will definitely mix it up well, but it can also be detrimental sometimes. It can introduce too much oxygen which will make your nic oxidize faster and it can allow smaller aroma volatiles to escape.
Are you mixing by weight or volume? Easiest thing to do is to mix by weight directly into the bottles you plan on using. Faster, way less clean up, and you don't have to worry about splitting up juice into smaller bottles.
The more time you leave your juice open to the air, the more light flavor volatiles can escape. I would try to minimize it. Not that a few hours would necessarily ruin a mix (although it might); I would just get in the habit of keeping eliquid in a closed container as much as possible.
Has anyone ever ordered from Nude Nicotine? And if so, how was your experience? I placed an order 2 weeks ago, haven't gotten a tracking number or received my package. I've called, emailed, and even messaged them on here and on Facebook. No replies.
I've never had a single problem with them, but others seem to have issues
Same, but the recent bevvy of issues has definitely dissuaded me from making an order any time soon.
I've ordered from this vendor multiple times. Their communication and shipping times sometimes suck, but the products I've received have always been top notch.
They made a small mistake with one recent order of mine, but promptly and professionally took care of it. All other orders have been 100% perfect.
I've ordered from Nude a number of times and haven't really had any problems. I do know that they can be a bit difficult to get a hold of and that it may take them a while to ship product out. Usually if I'm placing an order with them I expect it to take a 1-2 weeks; I would say lately they've been saturated with requests due to the regs.
IMO you have to be patient with them. They can be slow but at least they are consistently slow so you know what to expect lol. Product is top notch IMO though. My last order I placed on 5/12 didn't leave until 5/27. I'd say after 3 weeks I'd start to get worried. Hope that helps!
Good evening all,
I'm new to this Reddit community. I've followed some posts from users in the past, but it's the first time I'm creating an account.
I'm doing it because I have a question I can't find an answer anywhere. I'm a vaper, and I'm about to start mixing recipes in a near future. I've found plenty of tutorials, and I consider myself elucidated, but I still have one question:
I plan on using a mixing scale and a e-juice calculator to accurate things to the max. However, I do not buy PG, VG or Nicotine in separate. I usually buy pre-made bases which already contain everything at 3mg nicotine strenght, which is what I vape.
My question is: when using an e-juice calculator, I have the following necessary field to fill: Nicotine Strenght E-juice. I'm assuming this is where you insert the value of your "raw" nicotine. Since I'm using an already mixed base, what do I need to insert here? I use 50PG/50VG bases mixed with 3ml Nicotine.
Thanks for the help!
I just left that field blank back when I was buying pre-mix. As well as target strength. You already know that you are slightly diluting the 3mg nic level, and pg/vg ratio will be different for each recipe.
Hey guys, I plan on mixing juice only for personal use. I vape at 70vg/30pg and either 10mg in my clearos, or 5mg in my RTAs.
Im planning on getting the 120ml sample bottle of PG based 100mg/ml from Carolina extracts. I won't need to dilute that down any right? Just adding 1ml to any 10ml mix for 10mg, or .5ml to any 10ml mix for 5mg?
The way i see it, if I make 10ml of juice, only 3ml can be pg. And if 1ml is nic, and my flavors are pg based... My nic base can't be less than 100mg/ml.
Also, for storing, I plan to break the nic down into 6-20ml amber glass bottles and freezing them in my mini-fridge that's in my bedroom. I don't go through much juice day to day, so I don't think I should have more than 20ml out at my station at a time. Will storing them in the freezer on their sides by ok, as long as the bottle cap has a seal? The ones I'm looking at on amazon say they have a poly-seal.
Any guidance is much appreciated.
Your plan looks solid. You've obviously been doing some reading/homework.
Welcome!
Alright so everythings good and I wont have any issues storing the nic on their sides, so long as the caps have poly-seals?
Another thing, I'm sure it doesn't matter much... But my "freezer" is just a little compartment at the top of my mini fridge that's chilled more than the rest of the fridge area. like this
It might not be as cold as a regular freezer is what I'm trying to say... But the nic should still hold for a year or longer if need?
Thanks for the help mang.
Hey guys, got a bit of a dilemma here.
I recently got into mixing my own, and when I was buying supplies from the local vape shop, the clerk gave me 2 bottles of 100% vg base(I had asked him for 3 bottles of 50/50 VG/PG). I've already added the aroma to the base when I bought it 3 days ago, but it only dawned on me a few minutes ago that the base is 100% VG.
Is there any way I can add a PG-only base to the mix? I absolutely hate this VG-only ejuice, it barely has any flavor to it, and I'm not that crazy about "puffy clouds".
Thanks
Since 1 year I'm already mixing my own liquids by using pre-mixed concentrates (mostly German Twisted series). As a lazy person, I prepare a liter of my vape base with 60VG/40PG, 3 mg/ml nicotine and if I need new liquid I just mix it up w/ the Twisted concentrate w/ 10%. That works very well for my preferred tastes.
Now, I have the feeling that some mixes with exact same PG/VG ratio and nicotine level have a stronger throat hit than others. It's like e. g. a peachy juice has a more heavy throat hit than a – lets say – more creamy juice.
Same I had when I was in Malaysia. I bought 30 ml an Indonesian Creamy Coffee Latte premium juice w/ 6 mg(!) nicotine which I almost don't feel in my throat while Charlie's Chalk Dust Slamberry w/ 3 mg hits my throat as expected.
TLDR: Do some flavors lift the throat hit, while others dim it on same PG/VG ratio and nicotine?
edit: typo
Some flavors add throat hit, some don't. There really aren't any flavors that will remove throat hit without overpowering the offending flavor.
I just can tell what my feel is. This creamy coffee latte and another creamy one have 6 mg/ml and I do feel a very slight throat hit. My regular nicotine level is 2.5-3 mg/ml and "regular" liquids w/ 6 mg are not vapable for me (too strong). Maybe it's wrong labeled and has far less than 6 mg … That might also be.
I've heard a lot about OSDIY's Blue Raspberry Slushy flavor. Is this the actual flavor concentrate I need to buy to mix up my own juice with it? Or is that link not the concentrate?
And im gonna want to try making my own blue raspberry flavor... Can someone link me to a good blue raspberry recipe or good discussion on the topic? Thanks
https://www.reddit.com/r/DIY_eJuice/comments/49mast/blue_raspberry_a_laidback_approach/?ref=search_posts
Typed "blue raspberry" in searchbox, first result was a post by /u/skiddlzninja. I havent tried it myself, but I trust him, especially about candies and fruits.
I'm going to make a 10ml single flavour mix for each of my concentrates to understand them better. Should I mix at 10% flavour across the board, or look up the recommended single use percentage on e-liquid and use that instead? I've checked the sidebar and have searched around, can't quite find the answer. Thanks!
Single-flavor mixing to understand them better is a great idea! Look up the single use percentage and use that. I'd try to search here first, then look there. The potency of concentrates varies wildly, even within the same brand. Have you seen the "Modest Monday" post that covers this topic?
I have now, thanks!
"tasting a flavoring concentrate by itself mixed at a determined percentage with VG."
"To get an idea of what percentage to start your testing, you need to consider the general concentration levels of the brand you're testing, and the reviews of other people to see where they are using it at. INW and FA flavors usually want to be started at 0.5-1%. FLV, TFA, FW, and LA at 2%. MF at 0.25%. Keep in mind, these are broad generalizations. There are some INW flavors I won't use above 0.125%."
That answers it for me, thanks! I'll compare brand percentages and recommended single-use percentages on e-liquid, and make an informed decision.
Hey dear friends, I've been wanting to order the appropriate concentrates to create a corn flakes/frosted flakes milk ejuice. My searches have shown that many tried to make recipes but didn't gain upvotes and that concerns me. Other posts that do have a significant number of upvotes are recipes from one or two years ago but without any comments saying that it's a decent recipe. All I need now is just a list with the ingredients I need but I can't find any. Some posts are missing some ingredients that other posts have and so on. Can someone please give me a list of concentrates I need even if it's 100 concentrates. I just need to be certain that my order will carry all that I need to make that simple corn flakes/frosted milk recipe. Thank you.
I have no experience in making the kind of recipe that you desire, however I can suggest some flavors to start with.
Cornflakes flavors:
Look for rice crunchies or similar names from FW, TFA, and maybe even CAP. Search for cereal flavors from those companies as well.
Acetyl Pyrazine from TFA in small small doses can help with the graininess if that's something you desire.
TFA Lucky Leprechaun has like a marshmallow grainy taste.
Frosted Milk:
FA Meringue definitely
TFA dairy/milk (never used it)
TFA Malted Milk maybe (never used it)
CAP or TFA Sweet Cream possibly
Some kind of marshmallow
FA Fresh Cream
Maybe some FW Hazelnut
List list can go on and on for both parts of this recipe. I suggest breaking your search down into separate parts like, "corn" "corn flakes" "cereal" "cereal milk" "frosted flakes" etc.
Thank you! I was wondering, do you know which of the cereal concentrates from popular concentrate companies don't have a citrus flavour? Until now I only know of "Rice Crunchies".
My strategy to the making of a Cereal recipe is to follow your answer step by step. So first making a list of the Cereal concentrates without citrus notes, then get a list of all the needed concentrates to accompany the cereal concentrates and finally to put all together and try to get the best possible frosted flakes/corn flakes milk recipe. How does this approach seem to you?
I know you are asking for the cereal flavors without a citrus note but it's much easier to list the ones that do have citrus or fruit notes:
TFA Fruit Circles (citrus)
TFA Fruit Circles with Milk (citrus)
FW Fruit Rings (citrus)
TFA Silly Rabbit (citrus/fruit)
TFA Crunchy Berry Cereal (berries)
FW Apple J Cereal (apples, cinnamon)
FLV Tricks Cereal (fruit)
FW Crunchy Cereal w/ Berries (berries)
FW Fruity Flakes (citrus)
I thought TFA had an Apple Jacks flavor as well but I can't seem to find it anymore.
These are the ones that I can think of that will probably not lend themselves well to a Frosted Flakes flavored ejuice.
EDIT: Might as well list the cereals that you might think of using:
FLV Crunch Cereal (grain)
TFA Captain Cereal (grain)
TFA Lucky Leprechaun (grain/marshmallow)
TFA Rice Crunchies (grain/rice)
FW Crispy Rice Cereal (grain/rice)
FW Crunchy Cereal (corn/grain)
CAP Cereal 27 (corn/grain)
TFA Honey Circles Cereal (honey/grain)
I left out TFA Cocoa Rounds and FLV Cinnamon Crunch Cereal as they don't fit either list.
I haven't messed around with cereal recipes, but I think most of the berry crunch type flavors have a lemon pledge taste to some so just try to stick to the plain cereal types I guess.
Your approach seems like a good start. When making the recipe I'd probably start with the sweet milky aspect first (Meringue plus others), but you will be fine starting anywhere really.
My first shipment of VG, Nic, and flavors comes in today and i'm not sure what to make of it. After some reading, I've realized that most tasty juices are compiled using a few flavors. Any ideas what to make with the following: 1: Green Apple 2: Ripe Strawberry, 3: Vanilla Custard, 4: Strawberry, 5: Pear?
Is there a website i can visit to where i type in the flavors that I have and it spits out recipes?
Thanks!
I've searched a bit (probably not enough) and couldn't find the answer to these questions. Any help is greatly appreciated!
-
When using a vg based flavor concentrate (real flavors) should I be warming up the bottle so I can shake it better to evenly distribute the flavoring?
-
If the answer is yes to question 1, should I transfer the concentrate to a glass bottle so when I warm it the plastic doesn't mess up the flavor and/or give me cancer?
-
Can anyone with real flavors brand experience give me a basic time frame of steeping required for these if used as a stand alone flavor? So far i have made the following at 10% (70/30 vg/pg) 3mg nic and after 5 days they taste a little harsh... Root beer float, butterscotch cream pudding, cherry pie, French toast)
Thanks everyone for reading. You people rock!
I've recently tried some recipe's around here or at ELR. E. g. Mustard Milk, some Strawberry Cream and today I mixed up 'Sicle. And the taste of all of these was fantastic, but a little too light for my palate. E. g. Mustard Milk. I love the combination of VBIC with the ripe strawberry. And it's really delicious. But I feel the overall taste very light and not so "in your face", if that makes any sense.
The $25 premium juices I did try had this strong in-your-face taste – e. g. Mother's Milk or the Beard Vape No. 5 or No. 51. Do the premiums just use a much higher flavor percentage? Do they cheat by adding tons of additives to increase the "amount" of flavor? Or do I just need to train my palate?
I'm mixing juice already since > 1 year with pre-mixed German Twisted premium flavors. And no matter if they say 8%, 10% or 15%, I mix'em all w/ 7%, give'em some few days steeping and they taste very good and strong enough.
Typically I'm using Velocity RDA, 2 × 316L coil w/ .48 Ω each (.24 Ω), full wicked, temp controlled or Velocity Mini RDA, 2 × Kanthal 26 AWG, .96 Ω each (.48 Ω), full wicked, mechanical mod.
You know, this kinda thing happened to me when I first started mixing as well. I mixed up some recipes and they were sort of light on flavor so the next batches I bumped everything up by about 25%. That's when things started tasting worse. Muddled and trying to hard and fighting each other is basically how I'd describe it. I kept at it with the original recipes and after a while of doing that, they started tasting better. I ran out of nic shortly after and went to my B&M and got some kilo dewberry. After vaping that, I realized that the amount of sweetener in it was messing my palate up this whole time. I could barely taste the juice behind the sweetener. When I got my nic in and started vaping my own juice again, the flavors were coming out much much more. Basically, in my opinion, the sweeteners in commercial juices destroy your palate and when you eliminate sweetener, you palate needs to be retrained and sort of learn to decipher what's going on. In conclusion, you palate needs time to adjust to the lack of sweetener and once it does that, you will be good to go.
I am new to the diy game myself and have had similar experiences. It may help to try adding .5 or 1% sweetener to the recipes that you like but feel are a bit weak. Maybe start with 1 %, and adjust to your liking? I really don't know if that will help, just a thought.
Thinking of starting DIY and need a little help...
I was thinking of starting out with this:
http://diye-liquidsupplies.com/product/e-liquid-starter-kit-by-volume/
I've been vaping for about four years now, buying juice from multiple sources. DIY has always been intimidating to me, though. I want to dip my toes into DIY before I go all out. I have no idea what I'd be doing. I know the basic process, but the finer details are what I'm looking for. From what I understand, it's simple, but I will happily take any advice.
Is this kit a good place to start? What's a good site for recipes (I remember one from a couple years ago that was awesome, but can't remember the name)? What is the best way to make the whole process easy? Should I mix my nic/vg base in a big batch, as I'm getting the nic separate? Basically, what do you all do? Also... is DIY e-Liquid Supplies a trustworthy site, and are their extracts "da bomb"?
Thanks in advance!
I have never used that site so i cant speak to it's trustworthiness. It seems that most people like bullcity, ecigexpress, or gremlindiy for their flavorings. Essential depot is a good place to purchase PG and VG. And if you want a high quality nicotine I would suggest vape clarity, vaperstek, or carolina extract.
There is a ton of information in the sidebar. It's pretty much the bible for diy.
I decided to look at Wizard Labs in the end. They have everything in one place and it seems pretty cheap, too. Can you attest to the quality of their nicotine?
Will the nicotine in a juice with a higher mg/ml oxidize/turn yellow more quickly than a lower mg/ml juice?
yes
Ok. Follow up question, I'll try to keep it brief. Everything I mix has a very dry mouthfeel. To the point they are unvapeable. I've been mixing for 3 months now. I've searched and searched and read every thread and it's driving me crazy. I'm mixing at 6 mg/mg. Using Carolina Extracts PG based 100 mg/ml nic, Essential Depot VG, Bull City PG. I've mixed from Max VG down to 70/30. I'm using highly rated recipes from ELR and ATF. I've tried different recommended additives and combinations of additives from searches here. Nothing seems to be working.
One thing - the majority of juices from the popular vendors on ECR are also dry. ADK Placid and Cayuga are not, Cold Press from Bombies is not, Watermelon Crack from BX is not. But I've tried many, many different vendors and the majority are dry to the point they are unvapeable for me.
The only way I can vape the dry stuff is with my Velocity, or an RTA... I've used my Aromamizer, Griffin 22, and Goblin V1, and even then some are dry still. When I try them in my Crown or Cleito or TFV4, back to being terribly dry.
It has been driving me crazy, and I'm at my wits end. I don't know what else to do. I've waited this long to ask because I was hoping to find the answer for myself, but I have been unable to do so.
Thanks for any help.
Edit: Just to clarify, not harsh, dry.
For a creamy/dairy blueberry shake I'm looking for a blueberry tasting as natural as possible. Can any recommend me one? I want to use et3rn1ty's Milk Stone V3 as base.
Do you like that milkstone? The CC Xtra ruins it for me.
The blueberry I like the most is FW. Strong enough even at 3%, natural tasting. May be a little sweet, but not approaching candy at all.
TPA) Marshmallow 0.5% Almond (FA) 1% Caramel (FA) 1.5% Creamy Yogurt (CAP) 3.5% Ethyl Maltol 10% 1.5% INAWERA Flavours">INW Strawberry (Shisha) 1.5% Meringue (FA) 0.5% Strawberry (Ripe) (TPA) 5% Sweet Strawberry (CAP) 4% Vanilla Bean Ice Cream (TPA) 0.8%
Do you guys have any exp on sub of Bavarian Cream/Sweet Cream? I try remix DIYorDie Yogurt for more creaminess tone and spot on strawberry. Ended up with VBIC. It's about 19% flavor. Shoot me some advices please. I haven't try the mix yet, maybe 2 weeks steep.
I got some flavors in 4 oz bottles, which don't have a drip top. Do you guys use syringes or put these in small bottles that do?
Also what's the best place to go for bottles? Looking for various shapes and materials so a one stop show would be awesome. Thanks!
I put them in ldpe bottles from BCV. The only place I buy bottles from, except for a recent purchase of these, which I'm really liking.
Not sure if this is a completely dumb question or not, but does the nic coming in pg or VG make a difference? Aside from getting the % mix you want. Like does pg have a heavier throat hit since that's where throat hit comes from in mixes?
VG nic tends to be harder to shake up evenly so for newbies, it is usually not recommended. I personally don't have an issue with it. You just need to make sure you shake the living shit out of it to avoid hotspots
I would prefer pg because I want max VG and plan only on getting VG. Since the flavor is pg I thought it would be good for the mix if I got the nic in pg also but I wasn't sure if it being pg made it harsher. Thanks for the input!
I got an order of Nude Nicotine about a month ago including 36mg nicotine. I haven't mixed yet because I didn't get nicotine test. How much of a risk is it to do a mix without making sure? I was going to aim for 3mg.
I'm currently working on a keylime cookie recipe, does anyone have any recommendations for a good cookie flavour? It wants to be quite sweet to balance out the bitterness of the lime. After a 2 week steep it tastes pretty good but I feel like the cookie is lacking any depth.
Recipe so far is...
Keylime (TFA) 3% Sugar Cookie (CAP) 5% Graham Cracker (TFA) 3% Vanilla Classic (FA) 2% Cotton Candy (TFA) 2%
I would recommend FA Cookie and/or INW Biscuit. Individually they are great but they're even better when used together, in my opinion. FA Cookie has quite a true plain cookie flavour, while INW Biscuit has a buttery cookie flavour.
I personally think a 2:1 ratio works best, respectively. Something like 1% FA to 0.5% INW should work nicely.
I have a super simple lime cookie recipe using cap sugar cookie and lime Tahiti cold pressed.
I'd say use LTCP 1-1.5%
I use it at 1.5 and it's a little sharp but after 2 or 3 days it levels out.
Anyone played around with cloning Beard #32 and want to compare notes?
I think there might be clone attempts/recipes on the French site. Let me know if you need the link, I have it saved somewhere.
What % of my juice should my flavors add up to? What's too much, or too little (in general). Should I be aiming for around 15% or something?
It entirely depends on what brand of concentrate and also the individual flavor. Some are inherently stronger than others and you need to adjust accordingly. TFA, Capella, and Flavorwest brand flavorings are some of the least potent, so recipes using those tend to have higher overall flavor percentages. Inawera, FlavorArt, Medicine Flower and some Flavorah flavors are a lot more concentrated so you need less. There are exceptions of course, so you can't just aim for a total percentage. The best way to find out a good starting place is to search for the flavor in ELR and see what the averages are. Or mix the flavor as a standalone around 5% and see for yourself!
7% strawberry ripe tfa 7% raspberry sweet tfa 2% golden pineapple cap 0.5% EM 30/70vg 1.5 nic What have I done wrong here? Just uniformly sickly and cottony without any sweetness or burst of raspberry/tartness like I wanted. Will steeping help?
Try cutting everything in half, and omit the EM. Should taste a lot better.
Single flavor testing of each and every flavor at varying % should be part of any mixer's routine. Finding the right % for your palate is the key to creating something just vapeable OR something great.
Can i keep the raspberry at 7% and drop the ripe strawberry to 2% along with the pineapple? I mainly want a sweet and tart raspberry.
Looking back at my own notes, that one was best for my tastes at 4-5%. Started tasting "earthy and bitter over 6%". Try it yourself, and write it down. Keep a notebook. Or don't. But it helps me:) Seriously, try the sweet raz by itself, it's really good. Then decide whether to add the pineapple (I don't like it).
The Straw Ripe will prob be covered up anyway, as it is a weaker flavor to begin with.
Drop the amount of raspberry. It's overflavored. Bring it to about 4% and strawberry ripe to 5%, remove the ethyl maltol, and drop to 1% golden pineapple.
