It's been a bit since my last update about All The Flavors, so here's some catchup.
The whole website is getting more mobile-friendly, and it's pretty well tested on ios, so if you want to mix on your iphone, you can do that pretty well now.
Commenting and following are helping to make the site more "social" - if you follow someone and they post a new recipe, you'll know about it in your inbox before they post it to reddit. As demanded by /u/notcharlesmanson, if someone comments on one of your recipes, you'll be told about it, too.
You can assign other users as editors on your recipe, for some co-operative mixing action. Expect this feature to improve over time.
It's become pretty easy to set costs and personalized densities on flavors, and I now support VG-based flavors as well as PG. (Tested, although I don't have any entered yet - what VG flavors do you want to see?) Setting your personal values on flavors is pretty easy, just hit the little "swing" chevron anywhere you find a flavor, and you can set stock level, pricing, etc right there.
Use the calculators for VG, PG and base costs in "my settings" and you'll see them used when you mix (if you have a subscription)
Also, for subscribers, you can create batches to remember a recipe at a specific point in time, and keep notes as it matures. Just hit "create batch" on the mixing page, or look into "my batches" in the nav bar.
In the background, almost all tasks not related to directly serving pages have been moved to background processes on separate servers - we haven't had any downtime in a few weeks now (except when I upgrade the code, there may be a few seconds there).
Most serious bugs have been squashed - my mail gets alerted every time there's an error on the site, and I haven't seen many lately (and the two I saw in the last week have been fixed.)
We've actually reached a point where I think all of the features I felt I HAD to get done to call it functional are done. Now, I'm asking you guys what's still missing. No guarantees that your feature will go into the code in the short term, but what would you like to see me thinking about next?
I'm still able to get fast responses out to people who need help or find problems - if you have any you've been keeping quiet about, let me know here or in a PM.
I have about 1500 regular (unpaid + free sub) users now, and we see somewhere just under 1000 anonymous mixers a day. More than a hundred of you are pro subscribers (thanks for the support!), so the site is now paying for itself if you ignore my effort ... until traffic grows again, with associated costs, etc.
To join in the Memorial Day giveaway, here's a free code for 1 month of pro subscriptions for the first 100 of you to use - sign up, and enter this code - if it works out, please consider signing up for a pro subscription when your month is over - it's just 2 bucks (1.99) a month.
The code: ~~memorial_day_2016~~ ~~memorial_day_2016_2~~ ~~memorial_day_2016_3~~ memorial_day_2016_4
Enjoy the site and app, and please let me know how it's going.
EDIT: Sorry if it's unclear. This code is for entering on the website. It will grant a free month to app users as well (pro is pro, app or web), but it can only be entered through the website.
EDIT: That went fast, here's another code.
EDIT: Ok, one more code.
EDIT: One last one. :)
This site/app is the real deal. I've almost 100% used the app exclusively for the past 2-3 months with my pro subscription. Dude is dedicated and the small sub fee is a good price for what you get. The batches are AMAZING. It's so much better than making a new recipe every time.
I love this and all the work you put in to it, so I'm glad to hear that it's paying for itself now. The only thing I miss from like ejuice me up or ELR is a notes section. Currently I've been using the comments to leave my development notes on my recipes here and there but it's not really the intention of this area I feel. Other than that, everything else is awesome and I can't think of any additional features I'd want.
Have you tried batches?
I'd love if you could incorporate multi window functionality on Android so that I can watch a YouTube show while also having ATF up to mix with. I'm a mobile only user and that is the greatest problem I have.
Hey, I'm also using samsung device but I never went deep down into multi-window option. Seems like you using ING more than me and here's question. Have you ever had any third party app other than Samsung and Google which actually allowed you to use it in multi-window mode? I remember when I had rooted s4 I could put virtually any app on split screen, on my s5 which is not rooted I haven't encountered a single app that allowed me to do it. Isn't it some stupid safety feature? I believe that multi-window option is not in hands of developer but I'm not 100% sure
Plenty of third party apps support it. Reddit is fun does.
Why does it show me tons of recipes I can't make since I don't have all the ingredients in the "Show me what I can make" area?
Great stuff I signed up to try it out. Any thoughts on adding sorting categories like flavour profiles, popularity, votes etc?
Great suggestion. Recipes currently have tags, and filtering by those tags is a good idea.
Awesome. Any plans to add more search functions to the android app? I'll be using it to record my recipes, but it would be even better if I could look up all recipes from other people as well as ones I can make straight from the app ("what can I make" from the website itself would be amazing. Really enjoying it so far on both web and the app though!
Where do you put the code in? Dl'ed it like an hour ago... Is it the redeem code thing in Google play? Told me it was invalid when I tried it there...
Enter the code on the website, it will give you pro access for the site and the app.
And I'm getting an error trying to create a batch from existing recipe saying that my Nic VG level must be greater than or equal to 1? I've got 100% PG 100mg/ml.
You've got to give me more to go on ... app or web? What were the rest of the settings? What % of flavor? What was the actual warning you got? (I don't think I wrote anything that mentions nic VG levels.)
PM me or email me at the address on the site to chase this down.
When I go to my flavours, there's no button for me to add the flavours that I have. Is this feature only on the app? Using Chrome and can't seem to easily find it.
Click Flavors.
Type flavor, check box on right side.
You've now added it.
Ah thought the main "My Flavours" page would've had it.
Just logged on and entered the code: thanks Queuetue!
Just wondering if anyone else is having a problem entering a new flavor in a recipe? I've tried to make two new test recipes and attempted to add new flavors using the live-search, but the ingredients don't show up where expected... they don't show up at all, even after saving the recipe!
I'm using the website... anyone else having troubles?
Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean.
Here's how it's supposed to work: http://cl.qu2.co/gJek
How is your experience different?
Thanks for that screen capture -- it really quickly showed where I went wrong with the workflow. Following your example led to no problems.
Where I went wrong is that I thought the check-box on the far-right of the flavor denoted that I want it to be included in the recipe. Of course, after seeing you demo the process, I should have just clicked on the name of the flavor. So, what does that check-box mean? That I have it in my inventory?
Thanks a lot for showing me the right way to use ATF. I will start trying it out in the coming days.
I just wanted to say, I love the site. I'm one of the pro subscribers, and I literally use it daily; there'll be times I'll be out or at work and working on a recipe, thanks to the app.
I also wanted to say thanks for being so quick on bug fixes; I noticed an issue with batches a few days ago where if you changed the recipe, and synced, the associated batches would also reset on how long ago they had been mixed. Before I could report it, it had been fixed.
Things I'd like to see;
-
~~Easier editing of flavors in my collection. I don't mean changing what literal flavors I own, but the information on those flavors, like cost. I keep meaning to go through and mass add costs and generally migrate from ELR, but part of what makes me stop is knowing I'll need to go into every individual flavor, set the price, set the amount, save, et cetera.~~ Literally realized you added this when I went to check something while writing this post. Things like that are why I subscribe; I feel like you're trying to make the best tool for you, and just bringing everyone else along for the ride. And I love that.
-
Denser lists. I feel like it's slightly wasted space to have the list of vendors on the bottom of the page with lists; having a column for each vendor, with green meaning available, red meaning out, and nothing meaning not listed, would allow it to be integrated in a tighter package.
-
Better sorting options in general for flavors, recipes, et cetera. I touched on the recipes above, but on many of the flavor lists, I feel like it's a wasted opportunity, for instance, to have Name, Recipes, and Avg % not allow a quick Descending/Ascending sort by that column when clicked. Adding to the idea above, it'd also allow you to sort so that, for instance, every flavor available at GremlinDIY is at the top of the list.
-
Sorting of personal recipes. I have a fair amount of recipes, both private and public. I'd love if the list could be filtered by private/public and tags, to make it easier to reference and view what I have, and what's out there.
-
For batches, I think it'd be nice to have a Location field and corresponding column. Personally, I keep my batches in bottles numerically labelled, so I'd just write something like 011, but other people could have bottle descriptions or whatever they so choose. Eitherway, it'd make it easier to have a cheat sheet on my phone of what juice is in which bottle, instead of a separate spreadsheet.
If you're anything like me, you likely have a ton on your plate already with it. I figured I'd just offer some thoughts on something I already love.
> Easier editing
Not surprised you missed that one, it's new as of Saturday night. :)
> Denser lists
You use the lists?!? I don't think anyone has ever mentioned them, so they haven't got much attention. I'll check the stats and if people are using them, I'll give them more love.
> Sorting and searching
This needs a complete overhaul. Your suggestions are noted.
> Batch IDs
Batch IDs are funny-looking because they need to be unique across both the web and multiple mobile devices for each person. It's tough to coordinate a sequential list in that scenario, and I took this cheaper solution. In addition, my numbers would never sync up with your existing set of numbers. I don't have a good solution yet, but I do continue to think about it.
Thanks for the feedback!
With the Batch IDs, I know it'd be almost impossible to do anything with the randomly generated ones; like any content, it needs IDs to reference, and the easiest way to prevent duplicate IDs is random generation.
I meant an additional field. Like how you currently have a Notes field, but one listing the location of the batch, and having that field display on the My Batches page. So a row could be, for instance;
Recipe Name -> Location -> Batch ID -> Age -> Edit -> Trash
Just wanted to clarify my suggestion. :)
And yes, I absolutely adore lists. My two main lists are Flavors To Order and Flavors Enroute, which help me keep track of what I need and what's on the way. I'd thought of adding a Most Used list, which are just the flavors which're staples in my mixes.
I don't know if I am the only person having this issue, but each time I open the app it tells me that my subscription has ran out (paid for the year) and I have to click on the padlock a couple of times till it let's me access the pro features.
Yes! Subscription detection stinks in the android app right now, it annoys me, too. I've been doing a lot of effort on the web side, but that's the first thing that needs fixing when I switch back to the app side.
Glad it wasn't just me! The app is great! My only other annoyance is that you have 30ml, 60ml and 120 bottles pre selected. As someone who works with 50ml and 100ml bottles that slider can be a right pain!
Thanks for the updates especially the ability finally to delete batches - i had a few in there where i hit the wrong button and couldn't get rid of them.
I finally got my nic base in and created my first real batch of juice, and it wasn't half bad either😊
I am having the bug where it tells me my pro stasis had expired, abs then a few seconds later it authenticates it again. Mildly annoying but not a big deal. Another bug i saw is that when you pull up a batch online it has a column for the price of each ingredient but it displays zeros even though I've added all the Costs
I've been using the app for awhile now. Still hoping to be able to sync recipes from ELR so I don't have to do it manually, if I could do this I'd use the app exclusively. Other than that, the wishlist being functional would be great.
It doesn't sync, but there is a chrome extension to copy a recipe from ELR to ATF. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/all-the-flavors/akcijjhphdakmpdndhieppnkbaabfepb
Is this only for android? Can't find it on the iPhone.
The apple app store regularly removes "tobacco related" apps - it's just not worth the effort if they're going to kill it.
But I do mention above that I work to make the web app run well on ios devices, including phones.
This is a great app, it's helped tremendously since i started mixing a month ago. I subbed with some of my opinion rewards money. Is there a way in the web app to show 'flavors I need' like I can do in the android app (list of flavors that are in my recipes but not checked that I have)? I can't seem to find a way and it would be really handy for shopping.
Darn it, I keep missing the codes, but thanks for doing this. I'm just beginning to diy and the site/app looks like it will be very helpful :)
OK, just for you, I added a fourth code, I'll give you an hour to guess what it is and then I'll make it public. :)
How about allowing us to input the parameters rather than sliders? Sliders are hella annoying and a waste of time to get everything set right. Just let us edit the numbers, and be done with it :)
People have differing opinions on this. On the web, you'll see I allow both. On android, it's tougher to get the UI right with both.
I used to have a feature where you could "long click" on the number to enter the number directly, but that went away during the initial beta - people didn't like entering numbers.
I'll keep thinking about it.
Or give us 3 presets like you did with the bottle size, which can be customized under preferences.
I know I will vouch, that is frustrating as shit sliding something, with latex gloves on(or off for that matter), that when you release your finger, the slider moves. It's just annoying, and disrupts work flow.
Just my opinion.
I too hate the sliders on mobile. It takes 5-10 tries to hit the right number. It is a major point of frustration. Does it really matter if it's 69/31 or 70/30 vg/pg? No, but I want a round number.
I would love to be able to tap the number and do a keypad input.
Just payed for a monthly subscription but I am totally confused on what I am doing on the site. I added all the flavors I have. The tfa list is very small. Lol I don't know where to go from here?
You added flavors? Are you using the site or the android app?
You're going to have to explain what the problem is, or I can't do much to help! :)
Currently using the app. I went to the part were you add what flavors you have available from the different company's. The part were all the flavor company's are listed on the drop down menu. I may be overlooking things.
a) Do you mean the android app?
b) The part where you add what flavors ...
If you are using the Android app, You shouldn't have to add any flavors. They should already all be loaded, if you have a pro account and you have synced with the server. (Click sync from the menu.)
If you are using the web app, you should already have all flavors available.
What flavors are you trying to add?
And now Google emailed me my subscription was cancelled? Well I tried.
I sent that to you - there was an error reported when a subscription was created, and I had no way to know who those payments belonged to, so I refunded them, to ensure no one got charged for something they couldn't use.
Sorry for the bad experience, but I'd rather have you ticked than rip you off! If you sign up again, I'll try to make it go smoothly the next time.
I just bought subscription because i thought that batch option is cool. After trying mix first batch i encountered (well it is for me) pretty big problem. Why can't i enter quantities after decimal point? Maybe i'm picky and OCD but I love to mix my juice at 4.5mg nic, but site allow me to only do 4mg or 5mg. Also my nic is 72mg 100%pg. Every time I want to mix I need to change my nic config from 52mg 50/50. Would it be hard to implement option where I can set my prefered defaults? Also final mix ratio defaults would be nice!
Are you having problems with the web app? I signed up and paid for 12 months pro and it all worked fine that night then when I went back to it the day after my sub had expired! Now it's gone to 12 months private and all pro features ain't working unless I subscribe pro again Help please!
I need to know your account info to look you up. :)
