Cloning Watermelon Crack V.2
submitted over 9 years ago by VurveVurve with the Swurve

You can check out cloning process, as well as my previous failed recipe here:

Cloning - Watermleon Crack V.1

Without further ado, I will just go ahead and post the recipe and notes. I really need some feedback on this since I'm about all Watermelon'ed out

Watermelon Crack Clone V.2|% ---|--- Watermelon LA|9 Jungle Juice FW|5 Hard Candy FW|4 Marshmallow TFA|1 Watermelon FW|1 Cool Mint CAP|1 drop/30ml

Given the information provided to me of BleuxShadow's previous work here, I had a better place to start. This was definitely a much better place to start. The taste the was similar to WC, but there were still some things that needed worked out. All of his listed max VG's also seem to be accurate to their actual max VG, so I made sure to stick with 20% overall flavoring.

Jungle Juice FW is just a berry/watermelon explosion of menthol. It is providing that earthy undertone that I couldn't pin down in my original attempts, as well as all the menthol for the recipe.

For starters, the recipe BX posted was not sweet enough. This is where TFA Marshmallow came in. About 1%, it tastes just about perfect. Anything under doesn't make the juice sweet enough, and going too far over starts to dull the fruits a tad too much.

I dropped Hard Candy FW down to 4%. At 5%, I was noticing just a tad too much of the bitter grape candy. This is definitely where we are getting the hidden grape profile though. It's also providing some of the musky earthiness as well. The taste is undeniable.

The watermelon flavor also needed fleshed out a tad bit more. Watermelon FA was imparting too much rind even at the lowest of levels, so I subbed it out for Watermelon FW. This immediately tasted a lot closer to what I was trying to grasp at. It still had a small hint of rind, but it's a lot brighter on the palette as well.

Lastly, the CAP Cool Mint. There was just a last little bit of sweetness in WC that I couldn't obtain in my clones with the Marshmallow. It had me wondering if maybe I was using the wrong Marshmallow flavor, which of course would mean another purchase and waiting another week, so I kept going. After reading BX's description of the real WC again, I once again realized he mentioned there was just a touch of mint in the flavor profile. Boom! CAP Cool Mint has a touch of sweetness but it's very potent. Without disturbing the flavor ratios since I thought I had them right, I added just a minuscule drop for a 1ml syringe. Perfect. This is definitely in the mix. It also adds just a touch of extra freshness that I thought I was getting from WC.

#Conclusion

This is pretty damn close, but I may have vaped myself stupid on menthol. So please, someone who has these flavors, mix it up and let me know what you think. Feel free to send me PM's as well so we can bounce ideas off each other.

This also goes to show just how hard cloning a recipe can be. If you don't have all the flavors, and don't do your single batch tests, you may never end up getting even close. I was missing 3 of the most important ingredients that I had to order in, and may not have even considered them had BX not posted about his early attempts at this recipe.

Overall, I would say this clone is about 95% accurate. As I continue to go back and forth, I still think I might be using the wrong marshmallow flavor or not using TFA at a high enough percentage. Going to order the rest of the marshmallow and watermelon flavors I still don't have and go from there.

I'm going to trust you and order the flavors that I'm missing.

Even if it's not perfect, which I doubt I will ever get to, it's still really, really close.

I've never tasted watermelon crack, could you do a "base, mid note, top note"-description of it?

4 points

by Vurveover 9 years agoVurve with the Swurve

Top Note - Menthol. Menthol. Menthol.

Base - More Menthol. Juicy, candied watermelon breaks through.

Background - Candied, musky grape, ever so slight hint of mint, sweetness of watermelon comes full circle.

I've never noticed a grape taste in hard candy hmmm. Flavor west told me it was just a plain jolly rancher base but that's interesting! Thanks for the post.

Thank you for all this work vurve! As an EU citizen who never had the luck to taste the real one I can not wait to taste your attempts in cloning it!

Edit : is hard candy the same flavor from FW also labelled jolly rancher?

They are the same according to what everyone has told me. Specifically, I'm using Hard Candy if it does make a difference.

So, in terms of hard candy. Was there ever a TFA version as well? Is that the one they ended up renaming sweet & tart? That's more of a sweet tart candy flavor I believe, rather than a jolly rancher type flavor. If they aren't that different then, could TFA sweet & tart possibly be subbed? Thanks for the post and hard work!

Hard candy and Sweet and tart are very different. I don't think TFA ever had a Jolly rancher flavor.

For the sake of making it as exact as possible to the original ejuice, no you can't substitute anything.

As for making something similar that still tastes good, something like FLV Grape might be a better choice. FW Hard Candy is just a grape jolly rancher.

by VapeQueen214over 9 years ago

I think you are thinking of TFA's Grape candy. Which was called something else at one point

1 points

by Forever_Nocturnalover 9 years ago

Ahh no I just definitely thought TFA had a "hard candy" flavor that they renamed sweet & tart I'm probably wrong about that. Okay you answered my next question, the FW hard candy is definitively a grape jolly rancher gotcha. I want to say grape candy would probably be the TFA equivalent in that regard..gonna have to order some hard candy and try it out. I had a buckshot flavor called hard candy once but it tasted more like an overload of sweet&tart and sweetener lol so maybe that's where my confusion lies.

Any other flavor could be used instead of Cool Mint as I have all the other flavors but that one

2 points

by Vurveover 9 years agoVurve with the Swurve

Any other natural sweet mint you have may work.

Do not use spearmint, wintergreen, or anything else like that though. It'll end up tasting like breathe mints.

What about a little sweetener with koolada?

1 points

by Vurveover 9 years agoVurve with the Swurve

Maybe 1 drop of sweetener per 30ml and 1 drop of koolada per 30ml. Might get you close. The flavor will still be like 95% Watermelon Crack. You'll just be missing that last little bit of freshness.

I'm gonna give it a shot, subbing FW Candy Cane.

Thanks for posting this. I have been working on cloning Moon Mountains Vapor Trails which is a mentholated candied watermelon. I don't have the notes for my last attempt handy, but I used a bit of TFA Apple Candy to get the candied flavor, it's pretty good, but not quite there. I'll take your notes and work at it some more.

I've been doing something really close to this, though I use FW Watermelon Candy instead of LA, and only 3% FW Hard Candy. I'm out of FW Jungle Juice but I've got more on order, I'll have to give this a try.

My review:

I am very impressed with this clone. It is basically spot on. The fruit seems a little fresher, the menthol a bit dialed back, but the supporting notes like candy, grape, and type of sweetness are perfect. You really nailed this man...your palate and brain have a strong connection!

WC was one my favorite juices. This is now my favorite juice...it's a little less cloying, a little juicer, and lacks whatever ingredient gave me a little throat sting in the original recipe.

Thank you for the time, research, and effort. You killed it. Let me know if I can help out financially with your next cloning endeavor and I'm happy to chip in.

Vurve! I've mixed it up but wanted to know how long you recommend me steep it?

1 points

by Vurveover 9 years agoVurve with the Swurve

3 days seems optimal. I haven't noticed much, if any, change since then

1 points

by firebolt0777over 9 years agoProud Sidebar Reader!

Made this with CAP Double Watermelon instead of LA Watermelon since I didn't have the LA one at the time. Once the LA came in, I see why it was used. It has a candy Watermelon smell and taste

by OfBlinkingThingsover 9 years ago

I'm pretty stoked. I should be able to mix before Sunday. I'll let it steep 3 days and then let you know.

WC was a monthly order for me, but I stopped buying juice and making my own last month...so this recipe is a life saver :)

I'm from Germany and I can't get the flavors or the original liquid. I'm a big Watermelon fan and I've seen this thread and I want to try it, but it seems there is no way to get all the flavors. The only one I found is Capella Cool Mint. Most shops only ship to US.

I'll do a little bit of research for you, but you might have to order from some of the flavor companies direct. I could probably make a recipe with subbed flavors that is just as good, albeit different from the original
