God. Damn.
Nebula, which spawned from my attempt at cloning Stargazer by Viper Vapor which I believe is now called Habu Vapor, and then eventually turned into a juice of it's own. Pretty much has been my white whale for the past few months. I'd tried a bunch of different things to make this recipe better or just get it to a point where I was happy. I say that this is version 6, but in all honesty, I've lost track of how many different fucking variations I've attempted. Each attempt was good, some were better than others, but I was never fully satisfied with it. After version 5, I felt like it was actually getting worse the more I fucked with it. Tonight, I went ahead and gave it one last try. I figured, hell, if this one isn't better, I'll just stick with version 4 and be done with it.
I'm glad I tried one last time. So without further hesitation, here is Nebula, my personal all day vape.
Nebula 6.0
- TFA Strawberry Ripe at 5.5%
- TFA Strawberry at 1.5%
- TFA Pineapple at 1%
- TFA Dragonfruit at 2.5%
- FA Fuji at 1.25%
- FA White Peach at 0.75%
- FA Peach at 0.75%
- TFA Koolada to taste
Flavour Notes
TFA Strawberry Ripe / TFA Strawberry - this recipe was my first really good attempt at mixing, so I naturally went the route of strawberry. At first I was using strawberry ripe at about 7%, and while it was good, it just wasn't as punchy as I would have liked. Here, I dropped Ripe a bit and added Strawberry to bolster that nice sweet, dark strawberry flavour. It's more noticeable now, and that added sweetness allowed me to remove any extra sweetener from the recipe.
TFA Pineapple / TFA Dragonfruit - thanks to /u/Skiddlzninja , I found out that dragonfruit actually has almost identical volatiles to pineapple, and while I liked the tartness that TFA Pineapple brought to the table, it was overpowering to everything else. However, I still wanted a touch of that sour note in the mix, so I dropped TFA Pineapple to 1%, while boosting dragonfruit to bring that more well rounded pineapple flavour. This combination mixes beautifully with the strawberries to create not only the fruit base for the recipe, but also a bit of the accent notes.
FA Fuji - honestly this flavour has found it's way into nearly every recipe I've tried lately. There aren't enough good things to say about how well it boosts any fruit recipe. This one you can play around with a bit to taste. I like a little bit more of that in your face punch that Fuji provides as an accent note in recipes, so I bumped it up a bit. But Fuji is your complement to the pineapple flavours, so if you want a more sweet pineapple here, leave Fuji at 0.5 - 1%. If you want more tartness, you can push it up to 2% before it really starts to change the overall profile of the recipe.
FA Peach / FA White Peach - and here we have the background notes. I initially had TFA Juicy Peach in my first few attempts at this recipe in order to bring a bit more juiciness to the mix. However, as many of you probably already know, TFA Juicy Peach is throat suicide. However, I still liked the balance that peach brought to the recipe, and how it seemed to keep some of that tartness in check, so that you really only noticed it on the inhale. These two peach flavours work beautifully together to create a very realistic peach note. I notice a flavour of just a very slightly ripened peach. Ya know, those peaches that still have a bit of firmness to them, but the flavour is still spot on. In the vape, these flavours really only get noticed on the back end, right where I wanted them.
Koolada - I've found to just let everyone use Koolada how they like it in a mix. I personally go nuts with the stuff in my fruit mixes. Usually rocking it somewhere in the realm of 0.5 if my math is correct (which it probably isn't). But you don't even need it in this recipe if Koolada ain't your thing. However, it does add a beautifully bit of freshness to the fruits, and really turns this into one of the best summertime vapes I've ever had.
Ratio / Steep - 70VG/30PG and it's a perfect shake and vape. Nothing too noticeable happens with a steep, but I guess if I had to pick up on something, the fruits become more blended together after a few days. But again, it doesn't make the mix better or worse, it just kinda mellows out a bit.
Wow. Months in the making. Loads of subtle changes that honestly made me feel like I was going crazy or just being stupid and overworking a recipe that was already finished. But I'm glad I gave it one more go. Nebula is my personal ADV, I have been blasting through 30mls of it nearly every few days. Especially now with the the summer heat coming through, it's perfect. It pairs so nicely with wheat beers, vodka tonics, and margaritas. It's finally done, and I can put this fucker to bed.
Cheers, and happy mixing!
inb4 v7 gets posted next week.
Why not FLV Peach? Best Peach, IMO.
Shhh...I actually have FLV Peach in my next order. I just can't order anything still for a while since I'm in so much fucking debt.
When you get it, use all 3 together. Good shit. I don't have all of these flavors, but I have some valid subs for the strawberry and pineapple. Gonna have to give this a shot cus it's right up my alley. Congrats on perfection!
Hey there!! I am honestly a bit sad you never managed to clone Stargazer. No one has got it right yet. However what you created looks like a great flavor!
Since you never were able to crack the code of Stargazer hit me up for a free bottle. Your hard work should pay off :)
Woohoo! Congrats man =) This looks really flippin tasty, makes me sad I don't have FA Peach or TFA Pineapple. I may mix up a play on this while I wait for those flavors to come at me.
For someone who has never used Koolada, what would you recommend starting out at?
Depending on how strong you like it, I would start out at 0.5%. I first tried it a couple of weeks and mixed 1.5% in the recipe I made and that was just too much IMO. It is some pretty strong shit
I'll try it at .05 and then 1 to see which is better for myself. I've been looking for a summer vape close to Big Bottle Co.'s "Summer Time" juice so I'm hoping this will hit that spot!
Actually surprised I have most of these since I only have about 20 flavors, just missing fuji which I planned on getting anyway, tfa pineapple, and fa peach. This looks like something I would enjoy, will have to grab those with my next order and try this out, thanks.
Nice, looks good. I hate pineapple, but have all the other flavors so I might give it a shot minus the pineapple. I wonder what a good substitute for the pineapple would be.
I made this without pineapple, and it feels like something is missing. Or maybe it just needs to steep.
Yeah, I'm wondering what I could replace pineapple with. I'm trying to figure it out in my head, but I'm still fairly new to DIY. You said the pineapple has a really good reaction with the dragon fruit due to similar chemical makeup.... Would you know any other off the top of your head?
Like a small amount (0.5-1%) of banana cream. Or maybe another berry, like a small amount of FA Bilberry, 0.5% or so since it's so strong.
Pinacolada, Citrus Punch, Hawaiian Drink, Bubblegum, Pineapple Juicy, Apricot(This one might get weird in the mix as it contains 30 volatiles, everything else contains like 6-15), Boysenberry(Maaaaaaybe Acaí, but Boysen looks like a better fit based on molecular makeup), Mango(Not Phillipine, that one didn't pop-up when I clicked specific compounds to see what flavours showed up), & last, but definitely not least, Pear. All TFA, of course.
phew, that was some digging. hits vape
have you tried INW Apricot? I can just recommend that flavour because it's so authentic and completely different than any peach which i don't like at all.In the lastest beginner blend you were saying that you love peaches and apricot so i thought you might try inawera's one out if you haven't already
I love it. If I were to make any changes I would double up on the Peach by FA and leave out the White Peach. I've always found that White Peach lends a rather ashy aftertaste.
One other modification I'm going to make next time is swapping out the Fuji for a Green Apple to give it a somewhat sour tang, but this is just a personal preference. :)
Great recipe, thanks for sharing!
Omg...INW Anton Apple. Giving this a shot right now. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Hey so I finally mixed this up yesterday. I modified it a little to suit my tastes and flavor collection, but it still turned out incredible. Thanks a lot for the recipe. I did four percent ripe strawberry and three percent regular, I like that ratio a lot. Nothing against your recipe though I'm sure it's still great. Then I put two percent cap golden pineapple because it's the only one I have and I've found its a pretty weak flavor. And finally I replaced fa peach with flv and did that at half a percent. No koolada cuz I dislike mint/menthol in my vape life.
Once again, thanks. This will become a staple juice for me.
I'm glad you dig it! And no problems with the changes to it, thats something I really like about this recipe in general. It's really forgiving and you can alter almost everything in it to suit your tastes and still get the same profile, overall.
Cheers!
Vaping it as I type. Fantastic. Glad I mixed up like a hundred mls of it. Fruits are pretty forgiving in that regard. It's not exactly the same but it's damn good so whatever. I creeped on your post history because I searched the sub for the recipe name and I really enjoy the progression you went through to get to where it is now.
Here is my version based on your beautiful post. I don't have TFA strawberry, so i used my own combo for that. I also subbed the TFA pineapple for CAP, based on my stash. I tweaked the peach to incorporate the FLV deliciousness as well. Thanks for sharing all of your hard work...I'm loving this!
Matthew Kocanda, I must give you a sincere thank you. Your Nebula is the best diy juice I have tasted to date. I've only been doing this for a couple months and have made a few pretty good recipes but this blows my mind. I didn't think I would ever find an adv but I have found it in this juice. Made a 30 ml but am immediately going to make a 120 ml so all my vaping friends can try it. Magnificent work sir!
I was so excited to try this juice. I patiently waited for the mail to bring me several flavors I didn't have. All the while trying to not get too hyped.
My god man...it was so worth the wait. I'm sitting here enjoying, nay, LOVING it after having JUST mixed it. I already need to reorder a few ingredients so I can whip up 500ml of it!
Thanks dude, you da real MVP.
