Grab your favorite security blanket, because today, it's about that towering shadow being cast over us all. The end of vaping.
But have no fear! Armed with my Hello Kitty flashlight, I'm here to show you the light.
Dramatics aside, and without going too far down the FDA regulations themselves, today we are going to talk about stockpiling supplies to insure you're able to continue vaping for as long as your budget permits.
To start, lets rationally assess the threat levels of everything we need for just in case vaping 100% banned tomorrow, so you are able to prioritize your spending:
High Threat
- Mods
- Atomizers
- Nicotine
These all make a lot of sense to stock up on. I keep 4 mods on hand for my GF and I, and still might grab a couple unregulated and mech mods for just in case. If that isn't for you, you can pick up a handful of cuboids for $30 each. To figure out how much nicotine you need, you are going to have to calculate how much nicotine you consume in a month, then plan from there. These are the most integral part of vaping, and they don't have a lot of other uses for private sale. Sure, liquid nicotine was around long before vaping, but the FDA could easily ban sale to private individuals. Why would they do such a thing? Because fuck you, that's why. They make the rules.
Medium Threat
- Flavorings
Now, my concern here isn't that all flavors will be banned forever, it's primarily that they will be hard to get a hold of. Even more so, I might not be able to get the certain ones I want. Any flavor company that takes a stand against the vaping ban, or continues to market themselves directly to vaping, will certainly be the first ones the FDA goes after if things get nasty.
Low Threat
- Batteries
- PG/VG
All of these items have some pretty wide range of users outside vaping. The standard 18650 is used for stuff like cars and high end flashlights. I imagine most people are already buying these from places like Illumn. VG/PG is widely used in sex lube, lotion, soap, etc. The main issue would be supply since they are consumable. Companies that popped up purely with the goal of serving the vaping industry may be forced out of the market.
No Threat
- Mixing Equipment (scale, syringes, bottles, etc.)
A million uses ranging from hobbyist to professional. Stuff like this can be picked up at hobbyist stores, restaurant supply stores, pharmacies, Amazon, etc.
#Storage
Long story short, oxygen and UV light is the enemy.
There is not a lot I can say on this topic that /u/botboy141 didn't beat me to. How to store your DIY supplies
So, to summarize his post, keep your vg/pg/flavorings tightly sealed and in a cool room out of the light. In the back of a cabinet would be ideal.
Nicotine should be diluted as much as possible. The delays the oxidation process. Keep it stored in the freezer. When you transfer from the freezer to your working bottle, let the bottle from the freezer completely warm up before opening. This will prevent condensation from forming inside the bottle and will make the nicotine easier to work with, overall minimizing the amount of time exposed to the air. Make sure you use argon to top the freeze bottles before putting them back in. This will push out oxygen and minimize oxidation.
#Lifespan
As long as you follow the described precautions for nicotine, it should last nearly indefinitely. There are reports of people keeping their bottles of NN armor v2 at room temperature for months on end with zero oxidation. Now, it's probably not the wisest to test this theory, with your supply, but it goes to show that as long as you keep your nicotine away from oxygen, it should last a long time.
At the end of the day though, even if your Nic does get oxidized, your can still vape it if it's all you have left and can't buy any more for the rest of your life. It will just taste bad and be a slightly lower percentage than before.
Most flavors come with a 2 year expiration date. A lot of mixers say they will throw out flavors after a year. You will want to stock up on your favorite flavors while you can. Of course, you will start to see degradation after a period of time. That said, I wouldn't buy more than 2 years worth of flavoring for any one flavor. The ban may affect the amount of flavors available to us by shutting some of these companies down created with vaping in mind, like Flavorah, but there will always be the classics that existed long before vaping which served the baking and flavor additive industries.
VG and PG can be kept nearly indefinitely as well, plus I don't think you will ever have trouble getting a hold of these items. Stick to your standard essential depot orders and you'll be fine. Just keep them sealed and out of sunlight.
#Conclusion
Nicotine and lost/broken mods will likely be your limiting factors in what will keep you vaping forever. Everything else has practical uses outside of vaping that would make it difficult for the FDA to outright ban without alternatives.
Keep your supplies properly stored and you can expect to enjoy roughly 2 more years of vaping without a loss in quality of needing to re-up your supply.

I have faith that 510 flashlights will be the next big seller. I'll sure we will be vaping between 45-200 lumens before mods go away. I've already seen 510 flashlight attachments
If your buying doomsday mods why would you buy anything with a chip in it? Mech mods are doomsday mods.
You can build a mech mod with stuff from a hardware store when the mod with a chip dies.
We should not be doing this. Yes it will help you keep vaping for a while but it isn't a good solution. We should be spreading advocacy. This is not a dooms day situation. We need to fight not be hoarding mods and juice. If we put all the energy we have into this fight I truly believe we will win this war.
Sorry to tell you but advocacy is not going to work we no longer live in a free country the corporations own our government and the FDA.... I did what I could and now it's time to take care of me
This is not the way to think. Hb 2058 is going to fail and that is fine, we need to support the coalition which has exactly what HB 2058 includes plus some regulations that we all can agree on, such as ID checks and similar things to the sale of cigarettes and alcohol. Normal stuff we all would expect, but not rediculous testing and research like the FDA's current policy they are pushing. People do not give up, do not be the person who thinks all is lost because people say so because that's what they want. They want us to give up and I won't. Vaping easily saved my life and hopefully many more lives to come.
I did my part I wrote my congressman I called the White House I joined casa and all the other advocacy groups the FDA deeming regulations are the biggest f*** you to the American people the FDA is ran by Monsanto big Pharma and big tobacco you want to waste your time and energy on advocacy I'm not going to tell you not to do it the only hope vaping has is the PMTA if the FDA realizes that approving applications will be a giant source of new Revenue then we'll be fine but I'm not holding my breath
To keep within the DIY mindset, maybe a brief visit to /r/OpenPV is in order as well.
Good call!
I knew this was a thing but have never tried it yet.
I disagree with a few of your threat ratings, but overall it's a good write-up.
Me personally, the only things I'm really looking at stocking up on are 510 connectors and tanks/drippers. Everything else can be sourced from a non-vaping industry provider, bypassing the onerous FDA restrictions/regulations.
Awesome info man, especially for newer vapers/mixers! I feel much safer knowing you've got our back with your hello kitty flashlight =P TY For these posts!
The only thing to worry about is nicotine.
-
Mods and coils you will continue to be able to buy online from Chinese suppliers.
-
Flavorings, chances are we'll have to go back to food grade flavors and might lose a few like tobacco.
-
Batteries, FDA can't regulate
-
PG & VG will continue to be readily available.
- there are photos that can easily be found on ECR of customs seizing thousands of imported mods and rdas in countries where vaping is already banned
- I agree with this, especially if the flavor companies don't distance themselves from vaping, and instead call themselves a gourmet flavor supplier for food and beverage
- batteries will be fine for the most part, as already mentioned, as well as pg and vg

Whilst this is true, one of the most recent crack downs was in Malaysia a couple of months ago, yet I was there last week and the vaping business seemed to be booming as usual. Once the correct people were paid off. It obviously won't be that simple in the US but I doubt customs will be on high alert for a few personal mods slipping through.
I'm fairly new to the DIYer scene, Only have about 2 months of experience, but I've been vaping for well over a year that helped me quit smoking 2-3 packs a day! I'm also from BC canada and was wondering if anyone could shed a light on this for me, Me and my wife also vape vigorously, like 30+ mls a day, Hence the reason going into DIYing; How is this new potential ban going to affect us in canada? Should i be stocking up on mods and flavourings as well, should i be stocking up on my tobacco flavourings while i still have the chance?! So many questions so little time! I Order all my flavourings off of a canadian based website, and I'm not sure how he orders them, but i know he buys in huuuuge amounts of bulk, Since i get them so cheap (60ml flavourings for 10 bucks kinda cheap) I don't really feel like spending 500+ this month on flavourings and another 200-500 on mods (Again, me and my wife love vaping and i hate to say it but we will if we have to spend as much money as we can on vaping supplies lol.) What about kanthal and nickel and everything else we use to make coils? I haven't seen anyone post about those as well?
I don't know how Canada will be affected- but I can tell you that Ive been waiting for the Vapocalypse for 5 years- As soon as I started vaping in 2011, we kind of knew they would do this eventually- Ive had a liter of 100mg nic in my freezer since 2012, and Ill double that...Kanthal is a brand name, I dont see them going out of business-and SS 315 will work as well-
Yeah, I've been researching the laws and regulations going on here on this side of the border, and I must say it's getting to be real strict! I've since stocked my nic and will continue to stock it once a month! I found a supplier that sells Nicselect 100mg 250mls for 60, which is a great deal since most canadian suppliers sell 240mls for 85 plus shipping! I've also ordered over 40 flavours in the last 2 weeks, I'd rather not lose out on some flavours that the Canadian suppliers buy from American suppliers lol. have an upvote for actually replying!
wouldnt china get pissed at the USA for banning shiz like dat?
Yup, and china are already pissed at the US. I feel WW3 coming on very soon. Vaping Kay very well be the spark to set it off
In the year 2016 The Vaping War 1 began when the United States of America tried to ban all Vaping, removing those plentiful clouds, and save the Tobacco industry.
When the ban started, it was r/ecr who was roused to fight followed quickly by the Chinese knock-off manufacturers.
At first it was simply words and flyers that were air dropped by both sides, trying to spread their propaganda and show who was in the right. It wasn't until the start of 2017 when the first bomb fell.
But not by any of the instigators. It was indeed Putin who was disgraced when he couldn't get his Clapton coils shipped from China through the US blockade. Followed by Japan when Koh Gen Do started going out of business. It was them reported that Flavorah and The Perfumers Apprentice had joined forces and began construction of their own bomb that would cloud cover the sky...
I don't see any threat to flavorings at all, except possibly tobacco flavors. They were around long before vaping and have multiple alternate uses.
Didn't that FDA report say they were going to ban all flavorings that weren't tobacco? Perhaps I misunderstood
He's talking about flavor concentrates. Stuff like strawberry flavors and such all had uses before vaping. I believe DIY even started using soda flavors and such.
That being said, the FDA is not outright banning flavors, they just have to go through the ridiculous $1 mil approval process
What about the possession of the items? Nothing to worry about there, right?
Or another questions: I have friends that come over, use my shit, leave a couple of bucks to cover costs and leave after a bit. Is there any known issues that could arise with legality of that?
I'm really not the right person to ask about the specifics, however, it is my understanding that possession is not illegal. The attack on vaping from the FDA is primarily based on the distribution of vaping supplies. Not illegal to make it or use it. Just can't sell it.
As for selling to your friends, technically, no. Will it ever be a problem? Highly, highly unlikely.
Just finished listening to the podcast that thing went off the rails reading posts and listening to the podcast I know this stuff you spend very little time on the actual modest Monday subject would really like to see you cover it more in depth i do understand your write-ups are very thorough that being said keep up the good work I'll keep listening and keep reading and lastly I would like to point out that we left wire and cotton out of the Doomsday prepping if you are a cotton bacon fam like I'm a cotton Bacon fat chances are this stuff's going to be going away hopefully we have a couple years
I'll try to keep that in mind since I know that's half the draw to our show.
The upcoming show should be pretty good though. I've already got the modest Monday post drafted up. I'm excited.
Thanks for listening! We love helping people out and we couldn't do our show without everyone's support.
Your welcome just tell coke can not to get trashed b4 the show ;) it was still way better then listen to Skittles Ninja humblebrag and shamelessly self-promote for 2 hours
Just an afterthought on this post would love to see you and Coke can come up with some doomsday proof recipes using things you can get over the counter like LA flavorings
I like that idea! I'll see what I can do.
I'll have to assess the availability of all the flavorings. LA and MF would probably be up there at the top though.
Just did a quick web search looks like you can get just about any flavor directly from lorann and then found a color-coded vaping guide to what flavors can be used here's a link http://bestvaporflavors.com/feed/ And I didn't know mother fucker made flavorings jk
Can someone recommend a good argon delivery system for my nic containers? Thank you!

The vineyard fresh brand is 100% argon.
There are some cheaper brands that still use 100% inert gas, usually a blend of argon, co2, and nitrogen. There's nothing wrong with these, it's just that co2 and nitrogen will discolor your nicotine. Nothing more.
