Open Source DIY label graphics request
submitted over 9 years ago by abdadaI will rip you a new one if you don't use the sidebar & search.

Hey folks, Dr. D-Bag making an open call for artists (or non-artists) who have any e-liquid label artwork they've made and aren't using, or who wish to contribute it to an open source repository.

Over the next 12 weeks, I have a few decent illustrators I've hired to create some artwork specifically to be used for e-liquid labels, and they've agreed to lettting me toss them in the public domain with an open source license. They're working at an extremely low rate just to earn a few extra bones for themselves, but I am hopeful to get a bunch of well made and useful renderings.

If you have any particular requests, post them here. And if you have any artwork you've made that you aren't using or don't mind sharing, post a link and I'll snag it and create an open repository for others to download and repurpose.

I'm also working on some guidelines on how to lay out labels correctly for various bottle sizes so you can maximize your marketing and branding potential if you decide to brand your DIY creations for distribution or sale. Even if you only mix for friends and family, it's still fun to have your own brand for others to recognize.

Wow. This is actually a pretty awesome idea. I can't wait to see the final product. I will for sure put up some of my artwork for this, but give me a few days to be back stateside.

I figured if there's a good amount of artwork in vector format, people can modify it as needed to save some time redrawing from scratch.

I also want to do some lightbox photos of common fruits and bakery goods so there will be PNG images with transparent backgrounds, but that's a lot more work. Long term goals are good to have, though.

Oh I love that idea of the photos. I /might/ be able to supply such a request if I can borrow my fathers equipment and I buy some different foods :P

They're a time consuming PIA and won't print well on a small label.

You can grab the ones that I posted over here. I have photoshop templates created for them as well.

I enjoy playing with photoshop to make stuff so I'd be on board for some stuff to do in my free time and if it earns a little coin it would be even better.

Is this the type of thing you had in mind or were you thinking more of something more specific to a label for DIY with batch number, mix date, name and strength.

3"x 1" labels will work nicely on 15ml and 30ml bottles.

I could create a nicely designed label template for something like this that will work on laser printers. These are removable so you can reuse bottles without a problem. http://www.avery.com/avery/en_us/Products/Labels/Identification-Labels/Print-or-Write-Multi_Use-Labels_05436.htm

Could look something like this. http://s20.postimg.org/ll0t76o4d/ejuiced.png

That's a nice idea there. Diy mixers should really need those.

I did some logo artwork myself but never the mundane fruits and the like. May be some incentive.

Btw is there something official like a blog or a website yet?

I'll get some stuff drummed up over the next week. I've got a bunch of old work that I could incorporate into labels.

Awesome! I'm looking for an easy way to create an uploader for submissions (I have a few from other sites). Will get something together this week.

I'm a graphic designer and have done some packaging design (even some for ejuice companies) so I'd be happy to help once you have the guidelines you want or I can look up the specs for stuff I've already done.

The trick is how are people going to print them which is going to effect what format they want them in?

Illustrator, indesign, photoshop, ppt, word, Ms designer?

I think offering EPS and PNG would be good enough for everyone to use and repurpose. Or just supply EPS and the website will output PNG on demand.

Good Idea, ATM I use hand written labels, cause every-time I want to use graphics it's just A ton of wasted time, Would really like to see some templates)
