Has anyone tried Charlies chalk dust's Wonder Worm? a truely sour ejuice
submitted over 9 years ago by firefoxwhyyounoworkOne of "The Damned"

Wow I tried this recently and I can not get over how sour this tastes. Up till this point everything I had tried had a hint of sourness not in your face like this.

Has anyone tried this flavor? and does the 10:1:1 ratio of Citric, Malic and tartaric give the same taste.

I do not have any citric or tartaric and was wondering if it gives the same taste before I ordered or I should go back to researching.

u/abdada has done research into "sour" and found that doesn't work too well. I'm... Honestly not sure what they are using.

Someone offered to send me 5ml of wonder worm but I didn't receive it yet so I can't comment on what the actual flavor perception is.

My guess is that it actually isn't actually sour, it's just a combination of aroma volatiles that contribute to perceiving a sour impression.

From some communication with the guy who wanted to try to figure it out, he told me he perceived some peach flavor components. When I want to add more tartness to peach I use my acid chart to consider what ratio should be used against the fruits I'm mixing. Anything with a peach-sour note will likely work better with the peach ratio listed.

One thing to be aware of is that artificial sweeteners can be enhanced and muted both by various acids, so there's a lot of permutations to try in regards to acid ratio and content level to bring out (or mute) the fruit notes while also affecting the sweetener perception.

Hi abdada. I was actually looking at your website eariler. I love your work btw.

May look at adding a bit of spirit vinegar.

In regards to the flavour profile I did tasted peach. Maybe FA white peach and maybe a hint of strawberry and a touch of pineapple.

I thought they may have added TFA apricot to boost the sourness.

That's possible. TFA Apricot uses acetic acid in small amounts which can contribute a little to a sour perception. It also uses nerol which is a bitter compound that can be perceived as sour.

Thanks for the kind comment, I've been slowly adding to it as I have time -- I'd like to have all my resources online to share as needed, but I have just too much data on my lab computer to try to throw it all online at the same time. Over time as I review my own notes I am trying to add little portions here and there so that over a year or so, it should be a good digest of information for us all to refer to.

Acids are a very, very complex set of components -- even tiny changes can have a big effect on mouthfeel, initial flavor, sourness, and aftertaste.

I met someone from Charlies chalk dust last year and talked with him about our local b&m stores. He offered to send me a sample pack and some merch and if I liked it I would promote it at the shops in town. Exchanged information and never received anything.

They got sued or at least aggressed against by New York last year so it wouldn't surprise me if they cut back on samples.

I found this juice to caramelize very quickly and wound up never using more than 1/4 bottle before giving it away

I've been wanting to find something close to this juice for my SO. She loves the flavor but ever since I went diy to save us some cash I haven't been able to find anything close. I agree with the white peach. I taste some white grape maybe, which I tried to get with INW Grape. It didn't work out so well lol. To me, the juice tastes like a super sugary, slightly sour, white gummy bear or gummy worm. It does blacks out coils and cotton VERY quickly. Like, alarmingly fast.

This is interesting stuff. There is also "sour rainbow" by VanGo vapes that allegedly has a really in your face sour. I'm really curious how these companies do this since no one around here has had much success in replicating these juices. My guess is they have found some new additive and the info hasn't leaked yet. Hope it does soon, I would really like to make a true sour juice.

This flavor didn't taste all that sour to me. Maybe a hint of fruity sourness hidden in the background. But honestly, This is probably one of the sweetest flavors I've tried. Maybe try using a bunch of sweetener and see if that brings it towards the flavor you're looking for.

Minus much of an explanation, my top 'sour' flavors: FW Strawberry Lemonade FA Lemon Sicily LA Lemonade

I've been trying to clone this flavor for a few months now, with not much success. I bought a 60ml bottle that I come back to every few days with the hopes of some revelation.

Everyone that I ask to identify the flavor on smell says that it's a gummy/candy aroma, but I'm pretty sure its a mixture of fruit and an acid. TFA Gummy Candy, TFA Sweet and Tart, CAP Jelly Candy don't work at all. FW Rainbow Candy is the closest I've got, but I doubt is in CCD's mix.

Even after a few months the juice in this bottle is still crystal clear, like straight PG/VG. Someone in this thread said they've noticed gunking, but I've found the opposite. Very clean burn even though there is likely sweeteners.

Juicy Peach + Strawberry Ripe gives a fruit-rollup-y flavor that is kind of reminiscent. Adding Sour doesn't work, and Lemon flavor turn it into a sherbet flavor. I'm really tempted to buy some Citric, Malic, and Tartaric acid to just start trying with fruit combos.

Let me know if you have any luck, me and a few friends would really like this flavor cloned.

This was my fav juice and it is now "discontinued" and not available in Canada anymore...fuuuuuck seriously disappointed never found a flavor like it.

That's a shame. You can always order from abroad or join in the search for a clone.

I'm just....not down with e-juice prices. I can afford it too but it's principle for me at this point. Most sites list it at $34 US ! + shipping. Even if it was available for less I don't wanna deal with the shipping hastle I hate waiting on juices I wanna have them when I crave them (I'm a baby I know).

Guess I'll hunt for a clone but it's unlikely since most people seemed to have noticed there was something special about this juice and that it truly tasted sour.
