A Great Summer Vape (Oiqoipus) and an example of recipe tasting notes
submitted over 9 years ago by jiffythekid

Notes. Notes are one of the best ways to figure out if a flavor is working, if it is what you want, and how it steeps. Even a "shake-and-vape" recipe can benefit from notes about what you are tasting. Below I have an example of my most recent, and favorite to date, successful summer vape along with the notes. This mix started as a loose clone of Bombies Cold Press (I only got around a 2ml sample from a friend) as I love this type of vape and was looking for something that will be great for hot summer days. If you are curious about the name...I have no clue. It was the random name assigned by All the Flavors and I like it.

Oiqoipus

Ingredient|% :---|---: Kiwi (FA)| 0.5 Pink Guava (FLV)| 0.4 Harvest Berry (CAP)| 2.0 Watermelon (LA)| 1.5 Lime Tahity Cold Pressed (FA)| 0.75 Red Summer (watermelon) (FA)| 2.0 Strawberry (INW)| 0.25 Candy Roll (FLV)| 0.5 Lemon Sicily (FA)| 0.16

Flavor total: 8.06%

Overall Description: A mixture of summer berries and Pink Guava, mixed with Watermelon and spashed with a sweet citrus lime juice.

Base: Watermelon (Colorless) (LA)/Red Summer (Watermelon) (FA) - Red Summer is a slightly dry, ripe watermelon flavor. It is more like the watermelon "meat" closest to the watermelon's edges IMO. LA Watermelon is a bright, juicy, candy-like watermelon (Its my favorite Watermelon flavor by a long shot). Remember to get the colorless version. These are used in conjunction to create a bright, juicy, semi-realistic watermelon.

Main Note 1: Harvest Berry (CAP)/ Strawberry (INW) - Harvest Berry is a slightly dark (Raspberry, Blackberry heavy) fruit medley. For CAP, it is a strong flavor. INW Strawberry on the other hand is a syrupy sweet strawberry and in many ways similar to TFA Strawberry. It is extremely strong and will make your mix start becoming a syrup over 1%. In this recipe, I'm using Harvest Berry as the main Berry and INW to boost the brightness in the berry a bit without imparting the syrup.

Main Note 2: Pink Guava (FLV) - If you don't have this flavor and love grapefruit/guava, get it. The potency of this flavor is off the charts and can start being a main note in as little as a drop or 2. This flavor has all the bitterness (not in a bad way) and tart notes I was looking for here.

Secondary Note: Lime Tahity Cold Pressed (FA)/ Lemon Sicily (FA) - Lime TCP is a tangy, slightly sour Lime flavor. I love this stuff. If you want it to stand out, I recommend adding 0.25% of FLV or INW Lime to help keep this flavor from fading. Lemon Sicily is one of the most versatile flavors in my arsenal. It can be used with a bakery to add a bit of brightness or in a fruit mix to make a lemonade or even keep fruit notes from muddying too much. In this case though, I'm using it to boost the citrus flavor along with the Lime.

Supporting Cast: Kiwi (FA)/Candy Roll (FLV) - FA Kiwi is a realistic but slightly syrupy kiwi flavor. It will start to overtake many mixes after 1% in my experience. Candy Roll is an odd flavor. It is not good stand-alone but does a great job in some mixes adding sweetness and a bit of juiciness. In this recipe, Kiwi is being used to boost the tropical notes, and Candy Roll the sweetness and juiciness.

NOTES:
Shake and Vape - 1 Half Tank (Billow V3) Very Berry, will need to let it steep for a couple of days to see if the remaining profile comes through. If not, Harvest Berry needs dropped by ~0.5% and Strawberry maybe entirely. Watermelon and Pink Guava are in the background. Lime is non-existent, not a bad thing here as I'm looking for a "citrus splash" and not just lime but the citrus is more like a drip than a splash.

Still Day 1 - Another Half Tank - This stuff is very good. I'm starting to taste the Guava more and the berry less already. Lime (well citrusy) is showing up at bit but Watermelon is now WAY in the back. This may not be what I'm looking for... This flavor is steeping quickly to taste very different...Although not what I'm looking for it is very good. Due to the Guava and Lime it reminds me of NotCharlesManson's Guava-Lime Candy recipe...Maybe too much?

Still Day 1 - 2 Full Tanks (Still Billow V3) SHITS good. I'm really surprised by the quickness of its steeping. The berries are now in the background (Good) , I can taste actual lime a little, Pink Guava has its stamp on the mix but isn't over powering anything, and FINALLY the watermelon is acting as the base I was looking for. This, right now, is what I was aiming to make.

Still Day 1 - Multiple Tanks (Theorem RDTA) - The smoothness of this flavor has caught me off guard. I was expecting it to be a bit more harsh. Not much has changed with the flavor profile.

Day 2 - I'm just vaping this stuff now. The flavor seems to have fully matured as no noticeable changes have happened now in 12 hours.

Don't forget to advocate for vaping. In 2 years time, as DIY'rs we won't be able to enjoy inspirations like this if we aren't vocal.

I like that despite the large quantity of flavours you have kept overall percentage down and made each flavour work for its place. See too many 20%+ flavors on here that are just a bit 'throw enough shit and some will stick' esque in their make up.

Edit: ace became place typo

Just using a few drops from Summer Bash and realizing how strong guava is makes me scared to use .4%, but I'll give it a go. Just missing candy roll

You can leave Candy Roll out and try it. Candy roll is really just for a little sweetness and a little extra juiciness.

Think I'll try that and try one using a little catus in place of candy roll.

On a serious note...Is pink guava worth the purchase? I have multiple brands of guava and I'm not a fan. All taste dirty/almost mildewey.

Your description says if you are a fan of guava...which usually I am in drinks. But not yet a fan in vapes.

Yes. I'm sure it is different than any of the Guava's that you have. It almost has a Grapefruit quality to it. Look up some of the reviews of it from u/botboy141 and others. It is a GREAT single flavor Vape but a little difficult to get in a balanced mix at times because of the overpowering flavor profile.

This sounds interesting, I think I have everything except LA Watermelon. Think I could get away subbing it with FLV Watermelon?

It wouldn't be the same but it should still be really good! I really like FLV Watermelon but it isn't as "bright" as I wanted. As such, it may not be as summery as I was looking for. If you like watermelon I can't recommend enough to try LA Watermelon Colorless. It is IMO the best watermelon for "cooler" type recipes.

I had a watermelon cucumber cooler the other day at a friends, you've definitely peaked my interest now lol.
