Help With My Grape Pie Recipe?
submitted over 9 years ago by LonelyPixelBoy

My brother gets a Grape Pie juice made at his local vape shop and whenever he visits he lets me try it. I can't get a good clone going. Here's some recipes that I've tried so far :

Here was my first attempt :

  • 5% Pie Crust (TPA)
  • 3% Meringue (TPA)
  • 4% Grape Juice (TPA)
  • .5% EM
  • .5% Brown Sugar (TPA)
  • 1% Whipped Cream (TPA)
  • 1% Graham Cracker (TPA)
This version tasted pretty good after it's initial mixing as a shake and vape, but turned into utter garbage after steeping. I have a feeling it was the Meringue at 3% that caused this as well as the ethyl maltol.

Second attempt :

  • (FA) Meringue 1.75%
  • Apple Pie (FA) 1%
  • Blueberry Graham Waffle (FW) 2%
  • Cream Cheese Icing (LA) 0.5%
  • Grape (FW) 5%
  • Marshmallow (FA) 0.5%
  • Pie Crust (FW) 3.25%
  • Pie Crust (TPA) 1%

I lost this bottle rather early on. However, it did help me realize that I much prefer FW Grape to TPA Grape Juice for this recipe. I decided I was making the recipe a bit too complicated at this point and I should work with the bare essentials, and build up from there.

And this was my third attempt as a result of that thinking :

  • Cheesecake (Graham Crust) (TPA) 3.7%
  • Grape (FW) 6.5%
  • Pie Crust (FW) 2%
  • Pie Crust (TPA) 2%

This version is the best tasting one I have made so far, and has retained its good flavor after steeping, unlike the first version. I was hoping I could get some help in improving the recipe to better match what I'm looking to create. Tasting the flavor right now, after about a week of steeping, seems to have a little bit too much pie crust and over time has lost the sweetness and potency that the grape flavor had after trying it with no steep. I'd like to retain that grape flavor over time so I'm thinking of dropping the TPA Pie Crust to about 0.75% and Cheesecake to 3%.
What do you guys think about including FA Apple Pie in this recipe. I was also thinking about using CAP NY Cheesecake and/or FA Meringue and/or CAP Vanilla Bean Ice Cream to give the flavor a "fluffier" profile. I'm looking to make more of a succulent, moist tasting pie flavor rather than one dominated by the crusty tones, but I still want them to be apparent(maybe a good use for AP?). Please help me make the idea I have for this juice a reality. Thanks!

EDIT :
After reading some of your guys' suggestions, I've made a few modifications and here's the new recipe :

Ingredient|% :---|---: Fuji Apple (FA)|0.25 Grape (FW)|4 Grape Juice (TPA)|2 Marshmallow (FA)|0.5 Meringue (FA)|0.5 New York Cheesecake (CAP)|2 Pie Crust (TPA)|1.5

Flavor total: 10.75%

The 0.25% Fuji Apple is definitely helping the Grape flavors in this recipe stand out a little more and adds a little bit of sweetness. I think the combination of Marshmallow and Meringue have gotten me closer to the creaminess of the original Grape Pie flavor that my brother had. I decided to get rid of Cheesecake Graham Crust and FW Pie Crust and stick to just TPA Pie Crust. I also added CAP NY Cheesecake. I don't have much experience with NY Cheesecake but I think it has added a good amount of richness to this recipe and made it more "savory" like I was looking for. I'm really happy with this recipe so far as a shake and vape, and it's definitely improved--hopefully it tastes good after steeping as well.
I'm considering trying some Vienna Cream in this recipe, but I have very little experience with it as a flavor because I just purchased it a week ago. It definitely smells like it has the "sweet milk" flavor that I think would work well with this recipe at a low percentage.

Ok, so I've had some experience with grape before. It's a bumpy road.

Grape Juice TPA has an alcohol smell and experience, but definitely has it's place. What I absolutely love is Grape Soda from FW. I think it's a hidden gem in the DIY world. Problem is, Grape Soda is inherently very sweet and gunks coils.

The other thing I've noticed is adding a cream or cheesecake/custardy notes to grape can drastically change the profile. It's a hard vape I see you trying to make.

If I were to create a baseline from scratch, I would do:

  • grape juice tfa around 2%
  • grape soda FW around 4%
  • pie crust TFA around 0.5-1%
  • NY cheesecake V2 around 2%
  • and some type of a cream/icecream/milk around 1-2%

I'm not a big fan of the cheesecake graham cracker crust TFA. It has it's purpose but when you start using Grape flavors with creams shit gets all fucked up. Let me know if you nail something down, I'm definitely interested!

> Problem is, Grape Soda is inherently very sweet and gunks coils.

I believe the reason for that is because it contains Sucralose. Information in case someone is looking to avoid it.

I like the combination of Grape Juice and Grape Candy (TPA).

And probably 30% fructose knowing flavor west. But they don't tell us that. God forbid we discover their trade secret is corn syrup. Don't get me wrong. FW has some shit flavors (and some shit in their flavors) but they also have some flavors that are so good that it's worth trying every (fructose laden) flavor to discover those hidden gems.

I agree. I had stopped using most of their flavorings a couple years back after they lied about the diketones. Im not trying to avoid it myself but they lied, I still love Yellow Cake tho..

Ha! Maybe I was a little overzealous when describing the Grape Soda... I think it's quite amazing and certainly has it's purpose. I think you might be right though, the shit is almost drinkable, which may be because it has fructose-laden ingredients.

Mind if I ask what % you like with both?

Here is one recipe that i use the combo in:

Grape Them Apples

Ingredient|% :---|---: Fuji Apple (FA)|2 Grape Candy (TPA)|3 Grape Juice (TPA)|4

Flavor total: 9%

FW doesn't use sucralose. Try fructose or glucose-fructose syrups.

Inhaling sugar isn't good

Thanks for the suggestion. Grape soda sounds similar to what I'm looking for in a grape concentrate. I'll be buying it shortly. Until then, check my edit in the original post, I took some of your suggestions for a new recipe

FA Yogurt at a small percentage (1% or less) will help in the milk department.
