How do places like VapeClarity extract Nicotine?
submitted over 9 years ago by Azurfluh1

I've read a lot of unclear forums about people extracting their nicotine from tobacco using heated distilled water and coffee filters. I know nicotine is dangerous and I'm not really planning on trying this myself, just curious.

So the question is, how do actual companies extract their nicotine?

Carolina Extract uses a supercritical CO2 process. They don't go into much technical detail there, I assume it's a trade secret.

Vape Clarity doesn't extract anything right now, they're still recovering from that electrical fire or whatever it was. :(

Their exact process probably is, but the basic concept is pretty well understood

Thanks for the read! Yeah I heard about VapeClarity! That's part of why I was asking, that's who I bought from when I first started DIY a few months back.

I just got my order from Vape clarity a few days ago, is it from an old batch?

And supercritical co2 is definitely not diy stuff - videos exist and websites of course for extracting oils but to kust grab nicotine alone you need kind of a complex setup

Yeah that seems more like a deeper_DIY thing... /jk. It is a really neat process though.

I think when I was considering it for gunk free NET I actually did brainstorm over @ /r/deeper_diy a bit on this

the trouble is to isolate just one thing (a volatile aroma molecule / thc etc) you need to be able to hold and maintain the supercritical co2 and chamber the rest of the stuff seperately. Nothing short of a 20k+ rig will be able to do that

How do you keep your terpenes intact and preserve the best flavors while not getting the PSI too high? What would say would be the best range? John: We will never tell. Terpenes are volatile...

Their neighbor next door had an electrical fire which spilled over into their warehouse, unfortunately.

Yeah, I couldn't remember if it was their warehouse that had the fire or someone else's. I hope they get back up and running soon though. The fire was right around the time I started DIY, but they had lots of recommendations.

FYI James from Vape Clarity responded to my email this morning. Said they'll be up and running on the 12th. Orders may take 2 days to fulfill and ship as opposed to the original 1 promised.
