Friend thinks premium juice is way safer than homemade juice. What do I tell him?

Edit: Thanks for all the great responses. I'll attempt to persuade him:)

Didn't get too far into that album.

"Ok, everything is just on stock shelves. That's fine.

Well, maybe they could mop the floor occasionally.

Or pick up some clothe--

OH GOD THERE'S A BUG ON THE TOPPERS!"

i see absolutely zero reason why they shouldnt be held to the same standards. they are preparing something for human consumption.

  1. That premium juice isn't necessarily "premium." There are some AMAZING recipes on this sub that blow almost every "premium juice" out of the water.

  2. A lot of "premium" juices are made just the way I do it at home. Up until yesterday, there were no regulations that oversaw how even "premium" vendors mixed their juice. Not to say that some (or even most) of them are mixing on a dirty kitchen table, but they also aren't necessarily mixing in even a "Food Safe" environment.

  3. The only way to know you are getting the cleanest, safest juice is to do it yourself and use best possible practices. What's good enough for some may not be for others. It puts the quality and cleanliness of your juice and mixing area directly into your hands.

Everyone keeps saying number 1 but I have yet to find one. There are some good recipes but I haven't found one that "blows them out of the water". Maybe you could enlighten me?

Current ADV is coop34's Raspberry Custard. Top 4 mixes at the moment:

More you say? Go into the archive of Monthly Recipe threads and go into each one and sort by top or best. There are at least half a dozen very good recipes in each thread the last 6 months and probably longer.

Past that, what do you think is missing from DIY recipes here? Is it mouthfeel? Try some MTS Vape Wizard. This is NOT a one stop solution, but it does help some recipes although it does tend to mute flavor especially above .5% IMO. Is it not sweet enough? Experiment with TFA or FA Meringue, TFA or FA Marshmallow, CAP or TFA Sweet Cream, CAP Super Sweet. Use the one that best fits what you are working on. Research them for how other people fit them in to different flavor profiles. There are many more.

Coop34 is my hero. I've made it in boysenberry and am thinking of trying it in FLV citrus. It's a fine recipe!

If he Vapes and still feels this way I'm sure you could come up with a pretty long list on why he's an idiot. So I would recommend the following:

  • Step 1: Prepare list.

  • Step 2: Read it to him.

  • Step 3: Repeat steps 1 and 2 as needed.

Hope this helps!

Ask him if Coors is better than a home brew from someone who's been brewing for a few years. Same thing really.

or

that premium juice vendors all use the same stuff you have, but YOU control every step, and a "premium" juice passes through many hands before it ends up in your hands. I would trust you over the unknown crowd that is working for minimum wage and doesn't care. :)

(Except Gremlins, and I trust every single one of them!)

(EDIT: And vaping has joined the topics of politics and religion for me. I don't talk about it with anyone any more! Those that love it won't shut up, and those that hate it won't shut up.)

Mix up some juice and put it in an empty premium bottles. Share your juice with him for a week. Give him some great juice and say "I bought it but didn't like it, your my bestest so you can haz." Next week tell him it was DIY.

What's your point?

1 points

Your example would only prove that it tastes good, not that it's safe.

by pixeldotzover 9 years ago

it's all a labeling gimmick now. like 90% of vendors out there label their juice as "premium", unless they're doing deeper diy and can prove it, they get their flavor concentrates from the same places we all do.

but that's business - do you want your juice on the shelf with a regular label next to another vendor that's labeled with "PREMIUM" branding in big bold letters and quotes?

the uninformed consumer will instantly think that your juice is inferior. shiny = better in the eyes of the consumer; and I agree with the earlier posts, theres huge amounts of recipes on this /r that blow some vendors out of the water. countless hours of note taking and research done by members to perfect one recipe. THAT recipe with all that love and attention is the one that deserves the "premium" label.

by not_rocs_marieover 9 years ago

I'm just going to start marketing e-juice in super fancy looking perfume type bottles (they always have crazy bottles) with labels that talk about how the premium-ness has been maximized for ultra smooth vaping experiences. now even more deluxe!

people will buy the shit out of it.

Just bring up the diacetyl scandals. I didn't get into DIY for the price, or for the ability to tinker with my juices. I did it so that I could be sure of what was going in my juices.

2 points

by surfishermanover 9 years ago

Yup thats exactly right , with DIY you can be sure if you don't want diketones you won't get diketones .

2 points

by McHairpieover 9 years ago

That's not entirely true. There's been enough vedors who thought they were selling diketone free juice until they had them tested to prove it. Unless they were just outright lying to begin with. Without the recipes we'll never be able to say.

Who cares? Are you sad he won't buy your diy juice or something? Lot's of people think "premium" products are better than things made at home, and what you can buy at the discount store. Let them. It keeps that economy flowing.

1 points

by gopitt133over 9 years ago

Nah I don't even make my own juice I buy it off a good friend for cheap but he called me retarded for buying diy juice and that it's really bad for you.

3 points

by pink_er_pantsover 9 years agoProud Sidebar Reader!

lol, there's a shop that carries a lot of local juice lines and one particular line is made in the kid's grandma's kitchen. Some full of diketones , yet claims there isn't any such thing used. Yet it is marketed as "premium." We all have our own preferences, but your saving money and probably getting better juice.

1 points

by McHairpieover 9 years ago

Retarded? I wouldn't be surprised one bit if he's the type of person who drives a brand new car and lives in a trailer park. Some people have their priorities all fucked up. Fuck em. I wouldn't tell him anything. I just wouldn't call him a friend anymore.

1 points

by alsignssaynoover 9 years ago

Eh, if he wants to spend more money on juice let him. Chances are you won't be able to concert him until he wants to like many smokers. I've had people try and love my mixes but they're open to trying and even offering to buy some. If they don't want to I won't force it though.

Premium juice typically contains a lot of sucralose, which could be potentially unsafe for vaping.

3 points

by alsignssaynoover 9 years ago

Just bought a bottle of glazed by Glas after using only diy for about a month, and holy shit is this juice sickeningly sweet to the point of actually feeling sick now.

3 points

by goldfish18over 9 years ago

You will notice they are all like that. I did the same thing with Dewwy Boba last week. So much sucralose it's too much to vape more than a few times a day

1 points

by alsignssaynoover 9 years ago

I had filled my tank with it and was like "damn that's a lot". Probably something I won't tank often anymore or will mix to lessen that sweetener.

1 points

by rockets_meowthover 9 years ago

It's ridiculous. That pancake man shit could be a good recipe, but I couldn't tell because it was so sickly sweet every other note felt like it was hidden under a layer of straight sweetner.

1 points

by alsignssaynoover 9 years ago

Honestly all of their juices tasted like they could've been amazing without that much sweetener. I loved muffin man, but there was so much sweetener in it that's almost all you could taste. I understand using some to accentuate the juice and make it exactly what you want but there's no reason for it to feel like sweetener is half your flavoring.

1 points

But it's so tasty!!!

1 points

by vapingrammyover 9 years agoIn a good mood for now - don't piss me off.

When coils were cheap it was ok to vape that stuff, if you hate rebuilding as much as I do you avoid sweeteners like the plague.

by ajsam3over 9 years agoProud Sidebar Reader!

I bet if you put a "cool" label on it he would think its premium. Make sure to load up the sucralose on that bottle though, without it he probably won't believe you. It's all about perceived value.

Just bake around him. Like pies and cakes. Every time he comes over pull a fresh pie out of the oven. Eventually he will ask for a bite. Then tell him to go buy one from the store. For his safety.

Is rather buy an Apple pie from grandma's pie stand then one full of junk at a supermarket

1 points

by gxwhoover 9 years ago

why do you want to persuade him?

1 points

by giles007over 9 years ago

Just add a ton of sucralose if you want it to taste "premium". That's all premium juuce companies do.
And for anyone that questions the safety because it's mixed at home: just draw the comparison to homemade pies or jams. Better than store bought food made from a factory in my opinion.

1 points

by wraith29399over 9 years ago

Explain to him that with the premium liquid, that you dont really know what is in it. With DIY, you have full control over what is in the liquid.

-2 points

by antaranInvaderover 9 years ago

First off just tell him he's an idiot that has no reasoning behind his thought. People just think it's better because it's more expensive.

I DIY and I love it. I got my first ever premium juices today and honestly they are all terrible.

6 points

by jcgivens21over 9 years agoOne of "The Damned"

You got your first ever premium juices today, so that makes you an expert on the subject? What a bullshit statement. Very few people on this sub will buy into the idea that premium juice is better than DIY, but that doesn't make premium juice terrible. There are some really solid mixes out there. This community simply knows better than to believe the hype with our wallets.
