After seeing that craigslist post, I'm interested in seeing what you guys avoid like the plague. I'm still relatively new, only bought 3 batches of flavorings. It would be nice to see what flavors are total garbage!
TFA Cheesecake.
Anything that was reformulated to remove diketones in favor of butyric acid.
Bought TFA French Vanilla Deluxe. It's the diketone free version of French Vanilla. Thought it was okay in mixes. Kinda "meh".
Accidentally ordered the non-Deluxe once. It stands head and shoulders above its counterpart.
Same goes for TFA Vanilla Swirl. Just "meh".
I thought deluxe was the one with diketones....and I've been avoiding french vanilla.
You're right. It was late and I posted em backwards.
TFA Coconut Extra. Starts off ok but overpowering. After a couple of weeks it's a chemical mess, horrid
Coconut extra tastes like crayons to me...can't stand it
Anything from Flavor West. I don't care how good Yellow Cake is, the fact that they tried to cover up what chemicals were in many of their flavorings makes me not want to support their business at all.
I've heard about yellow cake a couple times. What's in it exactly?
Not all FW flavorings are bad, but they have more losers than most imo. Their shadiness has not sit well with me either. FW Hazelnut and FW Blood Orange are two of their winners... and yeah, FW Yellow Cake used to be on that list, but alas, the fructose. FW Vanilla Cupcake is horrid btw.
Most people prefer their blueberry over some of the other big name flavor companies as well.
Personally, all INW strawberry concentrates taste floral to me even at below 1% stand alone and in mixes. I have given away what I own and probably won't try them again.
-
TFA Cantaloupe. I got this to try the Monster Melons Clone. It smells pretty nice in the bottle, but vaping it was a different story. It was just a really weird flavor that made me gag.
-
TFA Pineapple. This concentrate tastes alright but it has a very weird reaction with me. It takes away all the inhale throat hit and then is incredibly harsh on the exhale. Made me cough every time.
-
TFA Guava. I made a huge mistake buying this one, it's SO BAD. Smells decent in the bottle, but vaping it is disgusting and makes the room smell like cat piss even at the smallest percentages.
-
TFA Honeydew. The flavor isn't that bad and I can see why people like it, but the flavor lingers god damn forever. I had to recoil and wash my RDA just to stop tasting that flavor. It tastes good at first but gets old with me just after a few re drips.
-
TFA Mango. This smells like nothing and tastes like nothing to me. IDK if it's just me.
-
TFA Ripe Banana. This flavor is SO STRONG. I've never been able to put it in anything without it only tasting like a weird fake banana. It's really gross to me.
-
CAP Vanilla Custard. Everyone LOVES this flavor but it's really disgusting to me for some reason. I've tried so many times to like it but it's so eggy and weird tasting to me.
Haha. You're not the only person I've heard describe cap's VC as eggy. Have you tried the v2? It's flavoring is safer and it's a little different. IMPO, that flavor is staple for ALOT of my creme's.
I've heard many things about v2 but I was mainly scared away because I didn't like v1. A lot of people say it smells like vomit due to the butyric acid, and that it requires at least a month steep which is also a bummer. I may give it a shot though if it's that much different since it's such an often used concentrate.
i giggle'd at the vomit comment. It never got that reaction out of me. it takes alot more of the creme/sweeter aspects after the first week of steeping though. Seems to not have the.... "weird hint of (insert here)" that v1 has. worth the $1.50 to fart around with anyway. It's a GREAT note to add for background on a few recipes you might have that involve a fruit :)
When I first got TFA Guava I thought something was wrong with it for sure, even the smell is absolutely awful.
TFA Guava is incredibly strong for a TFA flavour.. try using at standalone 1%.. I love it :)
I got the tfa cantaloupe after I seen the monster melon recipe online with reviews that said it was an exact clone. I used monster melon for over a year daily before diy. It is nothing like the real recipe and it's the reason I started diy. I wish I could just get that one juice right.
Which clone recipe are you using? I feel like there are a few out there and I like the one I have with 5% each fruit and 2% marshmallow, all TFA but I've been subbing LA marshmallow no problem.
I"ve tried everything but the main one was the 5% of fruits and sweetner. Ive used regular sweetener, em, and marshmallow... each one just seems a little off. I'm not saying its bad, its just not exactly the cuttwood recipe. Its really flowery, I've even steeped bottles for a couple months and just can't get it right.
edit: ive also tried no nicotine cause I was thinking maybe something was off with my nic. no luck. I am gonna try marshmallow again though and see what happens.
i will second TFA Ripe Banana. The taste is just so strong and weird. I get this plastic banana taste. Bought 15ml last october and I have not managed to use more than 1ml of it
Can i ask you what you sub for Cap vanilla custard. I don't think I like it either but it's in so many recipes
TFA Irish Cream. Just terrible. With everything.
Agreed for a while, until I made a an amazing butter nut milkshake with it. Somehow TPA toasted Marshmallow + TPA Irish Cream made the most buttery vape I've ever had. Tasted like diacetyl with nuts. I have the recipe somewhere, but I was using a 20% pecan milkshake from Yaeliq as an ingredient! Never made anything good with it since though...
Black Cherry. Ugh. Unless you use stupidly small amounts, (like a very tiny amount in a tobacco mix to make a cherry tobacco) it overpowers everything and it's literally like vaping Emetrol.
TFA, I presume? My experience has been equally horrid. Can't use it in anything at any percentage unless you really enjoy the flavor of cherry cough syrup, and that's being kind... I still have yet to try making a dilution (probably a dilution of a dilution because it's THAT strong and that terrible) but I have very low expectations of it being anything remotely vape worthy.
Yep. I bought an 8ml from WL back in the day, but I quickly found there are almost no actual uses for it because it's just way too strong and overpowering. a dilution of a dilution might work to thin it out enough to make it a usable subtle additive, but after the last few attempts I've made at using it, I'd be really hesitant to try.
I'll probably try a blended dilution with TFA Cherry blossom -- CB is okay in a meh sort of way, but strong -- might tone BC down a bit and fill in at least one gap somewhere in what it seems to be lacking. I'll try anything at this point -- I have no other use for it...
Dragonfruit INW - anyone for wet grass?
What? It tastes like a fresh dragonfruit, not just a light pineapple that you get from other dragonfruits. Are you using it properly?
-
TFA Raisin - weird rubber flavour
-
TFA Oatmeal Cookie - tastes like no oatmeal cookie I've ever eaten
-
INW Godfather - more Battenberg cake than whiskey and amaretto. Might actually make a good Battenberg cake
-
CAP Dragonfruit - not awful to be honest, but a bit pointless when TFA's is as good as it is
-
FLV Chocolate Deutsch - gets a lot of love but I had to scrape it off my tongue at 3%, it's so dense
-
TFA Belgian Waffle - tastes really 'off'. Couldn't finish any mix that contained this - also CAP French Toast
-
FA Ylang Ylang - smells great actually but more in a 'I wish my clothes smelt like this' way than 'I want to vape this'
-
FW Pink Lemonade - just flat and unenjoyable
CAP Dragonfruit is REALLY strong.. I like it but I always struggle to find recipes to put it in..
Is TFA really that good?
One of the best dragonfruits IMO. Cap is a really authentic tasting dragonfruit if that's what you're after. TFA has a slight candylike taste to it.
TFA Citrus Punch (Mountain Dew).
I love the flavor. Especially with an equal part TFA Juicy Peach.
My lungs do not appreciate it. Gives me chest tightness and irritation after about 5 hits.
Gave it to a buddy. He doesn't experience it. No way I could have known before buying it.
Tfa juicy peach has some known allergens in it. Search this sub for more info, tfa citrus punch might have those as well.
The chemical is linalool. It is an allergen and lung irritant to some people.
I'll stick with the one and only flavor that doesn't work for me...TFA Mary Jane...straight grass clippings. Most of what I usually seen thrown around in these threads are useable flavors in the right mixtures and concentrations.
Examples:
FA Bread Crust = 1% dilution in PG to be used at 1% or less. Goes Great with FLV Strawberry and a hint of FLV Blueberry Muffin.
TFA Honey = 10% dilution in PG used under 2%. Works wonders in low percentages with an equal part of Sweetener.
ha. exact flavor i would describe the mary jane flavor as. fresh lawn clippings. i have a friend i made some for. he loves the shit. doesnt even smoke weed. i cant stand it cause it smells and tastes like i went outside and just squeezed the juice from the underside of my lawn mower.
It really does give the weed taste but it's strong , lots of weed flavored e juices use it as a base.
I went as low as a 1% dilution used at .1%. It's definitely got some of the flavor but it's more like eating weed than smoking/smelling it (which is not good), speaking from someone else's experience whom I trust...
There are quite a few, but here's a few; tfa honey, tfa citrus punch, tfa key lime, tfa honeydew, and tfa fruit circles, I've never made anything vapeable out of these flavors.
I happen to really like TFA Key Lime.
It's strong, so you'll only ever be able to make 2 distinct juices out of it, but it's not bad.
Everything I've made with it tasted like lipstick. I went through three recipes before I realized what was happening.
Fruit circles is decent with a lot of creams but there are probably better options.
Citrus punch is a weird flavor, you can't get too crazy mixing flavors with it. I've made a good baja blast flavor with it before though.
Key lime you have to use sparingly. I usually use it at around 2% in a mix with other limes but if I go much higher it will burn when I vape it.
TFA cinnamon, ate thorough my orings.
I could taste what they assure tastes like cinnamon in my tank for weeks, I swear. Pure venom.
TFA Caramel Original and AP were just as bad too.
I absolutely hate tfa Belgium waffle. Bleh.
What's a good waffle? I bought this to make a waffle sandwich with peanut butter and Nutella flavor and it's just not coming out right at all.
I really like Inawera Waffle, but its "crispy" taste is very pronounced and it comes with a fairly strong honey/maple undernote, so it might not be what you're looking for.
I like Cap waffle. TFA waffle has a very harsh alcohol taste that takes weeks(more than a month in my case) to go away unless you want to heat steep it. When I made a french toast with it it tasted like breakfast with a shot of vodka on the side. I know other people love this flavor but I've talked to others that got the same taste that wouldn't go away.
TFA Lychee.
Unless I wanted to make a Dawn Soap flavored mix.
TFA French Vanilla Deluxe overpowers anything at any percentage for me.
TFA Vanilla bean ice cream i taste the pepper flavor that some others do.
TFA Guava made me gag so hard i almost yacked on my mod.
TFA Banana Ripe... I'd rather nail my hands to a wall than taste this flavor again
sassafras and rum. jesus christ that tastes absolutely terrible and make a concoction that made me literally sick like i had the flu and puked everywhere...or maybe that was the hangover from the rum. either way, terrible flavor.
mirachano cherry smells awesome, but ugh. terrible taste.
jackfruit is surprisingly good though. gives things a gumball bubblegum smoothness to it.
TFA Mango - Taste like pure chlorophyll to me. Green.
TFA Coconut Extra - Taste like burnt plastic even down to .1%.
I have 4oz of both of these. This is why I buy tiny bottles first now.
TFA Maraschino Cherry I've tried it at low percentage and its just a horrible chemical soapy nastyness. Maybe a dilution would work but I can't bring myself to try it even diluted.
Anything from flavorwest - they make a few flavors none of the others do of course but it is sugary coil death nonsense and id rather just go without.
Also peanut butter - I have a giant 240ml of peanut butter, maybe even 2? It never ever ever gets used and it never ever ever ends up well even shaken and with plenty of time to steep and yadda yadda. I can just use a smidge of hazelnut or praline and such to get the same effect. I get more mileage out of weird stuff like "sweet woodruff" than my peanut butter
TFA Hazelnut Praline is pretty rough. I tried to get it to work. The only way I've made it palatable (to my taste) is at 0.75% mixed with peanut butter and a couple other add-ins. And it took 2 months aging for me to tolerate it.
Another one that's probably not been talked about much is OOO Chocolate Chip Cookie. I wouldn't say it's a bad flavor, just one of those flavors that really needs a lot of supporting characters. Too much of a project to make that flavor work (for me). And it has notes in it that prevent it from being usable in other recipes as a component. It has that CCC base in there, a very subtle one, but enough that you couldn't add this to, say, a cheesecake or pie recipe.
My first ever shipment of diy supplies and here's what I found TFA pineapple - very small hint of pineapple with the rest being acid and fire TFA Greek yogurt - didn't realise this was a mixer and not to be used solo (Vape Nooob) TFA black honey tobacco - OH MY GOD, TASTES LIKE PETROL AND ACID
TFA rainbow sherbert - tastes like acid
Not bad for a first haul ;) should have done my research as to what flavours work best in a single flavour mix
TFA Vanilla Bean Ice Cream. I'm one of the unfortunate few who only tastes sweetish black pepper from this flavor at any concentration. It's a bummer.
INW Biscuit is another flavor I'm very hesitant to mix with. There's something about it I taste as vaguely peppery and off putting, the severity of that effect is dependent on percentage but usually noticeable.
TFA Sweet Cream. All I taste is socks.
You should try them, there's no telling what you'll like.
TFA Lemon & Lime - tastes like mesh dry hit. Never again.
TFA Coffee Espresso - sweaty socks.
TFA Honey - urgh, do I need to say more?
TFA Coconut Extra - Usable @0,2% with creams, but suntan oil at higher percentages. There are much better coconut flavorings.
FA Lime Tahity Cold Pressed - some say this is good, for me tastes like plastic. Good with coke, though.
INW Strawberry - Regular version, not Shisha one. Very nice strawberry flavor, but has a disgusting moldiness to it.
