So a few days ago there was a post that got my mind meandering over to an ingredient that I hadn't given much though to: Relacsin. It's a kava extract in the form of an eliquid, I'll go in to more detail below. I wanted to create a recipe that allows the kava to shine, but can also be good with or without it.
Relacsin Morningtime
35/70
Steep: 1-2 days
- FA Tiramisu @ 1.5%
- FA Irish Cream @ 1.5%
- FA Jamaican Rum @ .5%
- FA Cream Fresh @ .5%
- FA Vienna Cream @ 1%
- Relacsin @ 15%
Flavor Notes
FA Tiramisu: I chose this as the sort of top note. I really like the coffee notes that FA Tiramisu provides and figured what's more relaxing than that first cup of coffee in the morning?
FA Irish Cream: I used this ingredient to add some dark, sweet, creaminess while bolstering some of the alcohol notes.
FA Jamaican Rum: This is a tasty ingredient and compliments the tiramisu really well
FA Cream Fresh: adds some nice body to the mix
FA Vienna Cream: This one I feel is really important and plays a few different roles. This helps boost the creaminess of the recipe a touch, adds some sweetness, and really helps the alcohol notes shine.
Relacsin: The inspiration behind this recipe. Relacsin is a kava extract by Natzen in the form of an e-liquid. Kava is an herb that provides a natural sort of calming effect, helps eases stress, and can even relieve pain. This ingredient can actually be vaped by itself but you don't want to vape more than a ml or two at a time. It also leaves much to be desired in the flavor department. It's got an earthy, almost-sweet, root-based taste. This ingredient can be tough to mix with, but I've found it works with things like root beer, horehound, coffee, tobaccos, things of that nature. It's a little on the expensive side, but I picked it up at a vape meet for $10. Also if you're using it by itself, you can just drip a couple drops on top of your atomizer and be set for a while.
Other Notes
The Relacsin is optional, and can be varied anywhere between 5-15%; 5% if you want it as an ADV, up to 15% if it's one you will just pick up and vape occasionally. You can actually sub it for the Nic too (which I like in this one); it doesn't provide as much throat but it does provide a nice bit of a lung hit, similar to other herbs that might be smoked or inhaled.
The recipe itself is a nice sort of coffee vape with a shot of alcohol and a bit of milk. After the Relacsin is added, the kava definitely changes the profile a bit. If you've ever added herb extracts to a drink or taken them under the tongue then that might shed some light on how it affects it. A bit hard to describe but the flavor notes should provide some insight. I decided to keep it all in FA since we know they are quite diligent in making sure their flavorings are safe for vaping consumption.
Anyway, my Mom was a nutritionist and is crazy about different herbs and stuff, so I thought it might be fun to make her up a kava vape for upcoming Mother's Day (even though she doesn't vape or smoke lol, she expressed interest in it). Just kind of whipped this up after a few iterations with a profile I thought she might enjoy occasionally. If you try the recipe, with or without the Relacsin, I'd be very interested in any feedback -- positive or negative.
Can I sub relacsin for waving my hand over it and saying "woo, woo, woo?" :)
You forgot to touch on the most important issue; will it fix my dry knuckles?
I have to eat 300+ milligrams of Kavalactones to feel anything. I get better results from Kratom.
Tl;dr you're vaping the placebo effect ffs.
I actually got to try this at a vape meet in phoenix. Which btw was a major disappointment because vendors weren't allowed to give free sample out. You could only try at the stand. Only 2 places didn't follow it. One was halo and they gave out 0 nic of there cheaper sister brand eliquid. And this stuff. It was a strange throw away ecig and the taste is very earthy and I could barely get any vapor because airholes were tony. Probably would taste better mixed with something to distract you from it's nasty root taste. Plus I don't think it did anything to me at all but being an ex druggie I have high tolerance to such things lol
Was it the one in October 2015? Same here, they tried mixing it with like a strawberry banana and I was like "Woah, these two things don't go together." Lol. Only time I really notice it is when I drip straight on to my coils and then hold it in, I'm sure that set-up they had wouldn't allow you to get enough without sitting there puffing for a while to experience it.
I'll hijack this to ask what people think of FA Jamaican Rum? It's supposed to be great even by itself at 3% but I just can't taste it. I guess I get a vaguely amberish flavor but that's it. I can't imagine it'll add anything to a recipe at .5%, even though I sometimes do it myself for good measure.
Same thing with SOL Vanilla Rum, it's actually pretty good, nice smooth vanilla with a slight something to it but I wouldn't say it gives an actual rum flavor.
I've only really used it in a piña colada @ .75% I think and a cocktail recipe at 1.5% and both times I was able to distinctly taste it. I wonder if maybe you're going too high with it? I get like mostly rummy alcohol notes from it with a hint of some dark spice.
I haven't tried it standalone but I start to notice it in a mix at 1-1.5%. It doesn't taste much like rum to me. It's not boozy but I use it for adding sweetness and complexity. It's good for sweet bottom notes that support the top notes without taking over. Just like /u/notcharlesmanson.
If you want something boozier try FA Brandy. If you want straight liquor, FA Whiskey is what you're looking for. I'm an alcoholic. FA Whiskey made me look for a chaser.
Thanks, I'll have to grab some of that whiskey. I have FA Brandy but haven't fiddled that much with it. I've had a cocoa pear brandy recipe in mind for a while, need to get around to it.
I wonder how that flavor profile would do with CBD extract, which also has a very distinct, not quite unpleasant, but very plant-like flavor. It's absolutely gross when mixed with fruit flavors but tolerable in heavier flavors so I'm guessing it would be alright.
Sorry for getting all vaporent, lol.
I was actually thinking the same thing, I bet they would mix really well since they have similar earthy flavors. And yes, tried dripping some strawberry cream on after it and it was not pleasant hahaha. I have to change the coil/cotton after each use of kava.
Thanks for sharing this and providing good notes. Do you feel the relacsin? I'm intrigued but I was under the impression that vaping wasn't the best way to get things into your bloodstream.
I do, actually. I would actually go as far as saying I feel it more than if I were to ingest it as a pill. Probably because it's such a subtle feeling anyway, it makes it easier to notice an immediate difference instead of a slowly growing subtle feeling after about 30-60m.
Is this the same Kava that is a drink made from ground root (not herb) which is popular in Fiji?
If so, from what I remember it tastes like murky pond water, makes you feel slightly intoxicated and numbs the mouth, also makes you susceptible to sales pitches and liable to spend a small fortune on useless mass produced 'tribal' tat. The long term use of Kava makes interesting reading...
