Maybe I'm a flavor chaser, let me preface with that; but I feel like 50/50 has this "shitty b&m old stock" stigma, so I've been mixing at 70VG/30PG. also been at 3mg nic for a few months. Today I watched a bunch of videos that clearly made me an expert diy guy and thought "this hurts my throat and tastes muted." So I mixed the same flavors at 50/50 with 1mg NIC to see. IT'S DELICIOUS AND SMOOTH!
I find the clouds to be acceptable so... I guess my question is "if diy is mostly about taste, why do I think I need I mix high vg?". I guess it's really about... Exactly what u want. I don't care about clouds (to an extent), but I watch videos and everyone is all about vg.
Anyhoo, just checking in I guess, beginner diy here saying don't stress over ratios or think your pre-diy NIC is needed. Try everything, I'm bombies max vg 3mg diehard (cause the internet says that's cool)... But damn this 1mg 50/50 is smooth and delicious.
EDIT: Thanks for all the input! I'm liking this community, you guys/gals are alright. I know of a few other vape related subs where this would have been flamed to oblivion.

I figured that if most of my flavorings add up to around 15% total (give or take), that'll bring my ratio to about 85/15 VG/PG... plus my nic is 50/50, so that'll drop it down even more... why bother to add that smidge of PG to make it exactly 70 (or whatever)? Ain't nobody got time.
I think the reason you don't see it as much is because the vocal majority doesn't like PG that much. Personally, I do a 70vg/30pg mix almost every time.
What's the majority got against pg? It's literally flavorless, right?

My ratio varies by flavor. Savory I tend to go more pg, fruit I like around 50/50, and candy types, especially loranns, I go more VG. Loranns cherry, on the rare occasion I use it, is definitely a max VG mix...
Pg for me is sort of like the "volume button"... The more pg, the higher the "flavor loudness"... Could be specific to me of course, but there's some flavors I just don't want to be that "loud", like candy sweet loranns :)
Something to keep in mind is the technology we're seeing now with vaping. The vast, vast majority of atomizers that are coming out are based on sub ohm vaping, with large airflow and large juice wells/channels. This leads to two things.
1: Viscosity isn't really an issue anymore for anyone with a setup made in the past couple year or two.
2: At high enough temperatures VG often behaves similarly to PG.
I'd say that there's also a large majority of people doing it based on public opinion. There's really not that many PG sensitive people. (Though I'd be willing to bet that diy has a larger percentage of PG sensitive simply because people who are that aware of what they want may have more motivation to make their own.)
I do 70/30 and sometimes 60/40 for some juices to get a little more throat hit
Where are you on NIC? I feel like that has way more impact than pg on throat hit. And, imho, NIC throat hit is much sharper that than the round throat hit of pg
I almost exclusively make/use blends at 40PG/60VG, I just like the overall feel, and the flavour coming together simpler/faster than with the max VG mixes!
I don't give a shit about clouds - in most cases I'd actually prefer no cloud, but the VG makes the inhale/exhale more pleasurable for me.
6mg for me also - starting to lower to 4.5 though.
Personally, I've found the flavor of all the PG I've tasted objectionable in a bitter, chemical sort of way so I try to limit it to whatever happens to be in my flavors and nic.
I also find it's also easier to mix max VG by default and feel some flavors seem to benefit from less PG in a mix.
TL;DR, your DIY is not my DIY, do whatever you want and stay safe.
Hmm, almost everyone mentions having too much throat hit with 50/50 blends... I guess I'm alone in that even 70/30 is too much for me, my throat gets incredibly scratchy and I'm constantly coughing whenever I vape 70/30. Right now I'm mixing max vg, viscosity isn't a problem since I exclusively drip and all my issues have largely gone away.

Looks nice, free flavors don't have tfa pear, which was in the recipe I was using to test the app, so I uninstalled it ;-) Is there a way to manually enter flavors like most other apps?

mix at 50/50 .. haven't noticed this throat hit people speak of for most of the stuff i have made. have mixed at max vg (anywhere from 80/20 to 93) only difference i felt was when the shit didn't wick fast enough in a tank.
pg the clouds disapate quicker, a plus for me.. don't have to wash the vg off the windows as often either.

I need to try one of my mixes as a 50/50. I got into DIY right about the same time I got into clouds so I was all about some 90+VG at first. Then I started doing 80vg. Now I do 70vg for quicker steeping and better flavor. Some genius could probably find a pattern here.
