Flavor of the Week: Vanilla
submitted over 9 years ago by Helfrd0771Valued Community Coordinator

The purpose of this thread is to gather the community to explore a flavor and it's many uses.

We're not just looking for you to post recipes you have containing the flavor of the week, but looking for you to share your process as you develop a new juice using the flavor of the week.

This should help us all to better understand how certain flavors interact, and give us all a launching point to perhaps discovering new wonderful recipes. Please post new recipes created using this flavor as well as any and all tasting notes as main posts. Thought process is encouraged also.

While I definitely encourage you to branch out with this flavor and use some more rare flavors, I would encourage everyone to keep it in mind that others will not be able to try your recipe and comment or offer assistance if they do not have the flavors you are using. I would also encourage you to use this week's flavor as the "main" flavor in your recipe although this is not required.

You BETTER sample and offer tasting notes on your recipe. Good luck to everyone!

This Week's Flavor is: Vanilla

Flan

A Caramel & Custard like Dessert

I'm a huge fan of flan. For some reason I just really like flan. Some flans are better than others, some flans aren't that good at all, but overall the flan experience I had with flan is good. All that flan being said, flan is pretty good. I wanted to make a flan recipe. A flan recipe that tasted like flan cause I think flan is good. This is my flan.

Brand | Flavoring | % ---|---|---- CAP | Vanilla Custard v1 | 3% TFA | Graham Cracker Clear| 3% TFA | Brown Sugar Extra | 1.5% TFA | Vanilla Swirl | 1.5% TFA | RY4 Double | 2% FW | Butterscotch Ripple | 3% FA | Almond | 1% | Ethyl Maltol | 0.5% MIX AT | 60VG | 40PG STEEP | Very Long | 2-3 Weeks Minimum

I wanted to do a write up of flavorings on this but I got lazy so I'll do it later and you can check them out on my website www.diyordievaping.com when they're up. That's why this is in this thread.

I've actually never tried flan, but it made me think of the Spam Song.

I really need to get some of that RY4 Double... It keeps popping up in recipes, but I've held back because RY4 is what I started vaping when I quit cigs 1.5 years ago. It may be time to re-visit this flavor in a different light!

If you like whiskey like I like bourbon then definitely revisit it. Try Adirondacks sagamore juice. It's a vanilla cupcake cream ry4. Got me hooked. Ry4 after like 6 weeks matches a good bourbon better than my ex girlfriend did.

Interesting - have you tried the Flan flavoring from One on One flavors yet? I just got some the other day for my wife but haven't had a chance to try it yet.

Currently have 60ml steeping from 2/17. Haven't touched it yet.

Go for it. 2 months is perfect time to start enjoying IMO. It's about 97% of the way to perfection at this point.

P.S. I have 500ml steeped 5 months right now (no nic yet). Can't wait til next month to crack it open. It'll be gone in like 3 weeks...ROFL.

I was aiming for that 6 month mark you mentioned. Must resist.

I finally just broke down and ordered some Holy Vanilla today, they had a refered by spot in the check out process, so I put tranceinate on r/DIY_E-Juice, since your always pushing that shit.

Lol thanks, not the first time I've heard that. I don't think they do anything with that info, but they totally owe me a free bottle by now

Im looking at the above Botboy recipe and don't have Vanilla Classic but I do indeed have Holy Vanilla (based on your strong recommendation!). I wonder if that would be a decent substitute? I have so many vanillas but not the classic because after reading about it a few said it was a little bland. Argggh!

Holy Vanilla is an amazing sub in that recipe. If you want sweetener, TFA Vanillin is also a good sub.

That's how I mixed it this aft, I subbed out with the TFA Vanillin and I added .5% of Holy Vanilla. I made 3 smaller bottles, and in one of them I decided to try a touch of FLV Rich Cinnamon instead of the CDS. Now to practice patience lol. Off to the steep cupboard they go. Im sure I will regret not making larger batches! Thank you!

FA's vanillas are underwhelming no matter what IMO. I'd try holy in its place at .5 in that recipe, maybe .75%

They're more the fragrant kind of vanilla instead of the usual smooth/creamy vanilla, but I'd agree they're underwhelming. Never tried really pushing the percentage though.

Lol, it was probably your posts that made me take it off my initial to buy list! Thanks, I will give those amounts a try, much appreciated.

How many PMs did you get before you added the DIYFS? I say five. /u/skittlzninja says closet

It's the best vanilla hands down.

I love FA's Vanilla Tahiti and Inawera's Shisha Vanilla but as usual they are weak and you need a ton to taste it.

Botboy's Vicious Vanilla is excellent but only after a long steep in my opinion . It changes dramatically over time.

Vanilla is a nice one! I've made a lot of vanilla with dulce de leche recently. Plus that French Vanilla Cream is da bomb. (All TFA btw)

Vanilla is my shit, plain and simple. The creamier, the better. My ADV is a mix of equal parts CAP Butter Cream, Vanilla Custard V1, TFA VBIC at about 15% total. I use that base in so many recipes, I have to make a concerted effort not to.

I just got INW Vanilla Shisha in about a week ago, as well as the staple FA creams and a few other things, and I don't know how I went so long without it. I am doing lots of experimenting with it. I will hopefully have some tangible data and observations to contribute to this thread over the next few days.

Could you expand on this? It sounds right up my ally and I may make a 30ml stone of it, but what % do you use this base at in recipes? What's one or two of your favorite recipes to use this base with? Creamier the better for me too, I'm assuming there's a strawberry recipe including this etc, anything else? I'm going to try the flavors listed as is, maybe a version with a marshmallow for extra mouthfeel, but anyway any pointers with this cream would be awesome
