Warning to Canadian mixers that started over the winter.
submitted over 9 years ago by TwistedfexerProud Sidebar Reader!

Just wanted to give a friendly warning/reminder that is is getting warmer outside now and the area you keep our supplies might not be the best soon. So if you can find an area that you know will stay cool, if at all possible dedicate a section in the fridge. my bar fridge came out of storage just for the occasion.

Anyway just a heads up. Have a good one.

Kind of, I just pull the innards of the air conditioner out of the window opening leaving the shell behind, works like a fridge, I just keep my calendar over the opening as a door. If it goes to minus 30+ you gotta take the calendar down tho or everything will freeze solid

Why the fuck would a human being live somewhere that gets less than -30?

Coldest I've seen was -46 I believe (-54 with the wind chill) temperature like that you can't have exposed skin for longer than 2-3 min before frostbite hits. 4-5min your eyes start to freeze and breathing problems start.. lol

At least I can go get my feelings checked for free when I get grumpy about it lol

Celsius. I don't know if that makes it better for you.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat?!

A post that doesn't need to be put in the new mixers thread?

You are a candle in this bitter darkness, lightening these halls with your relevance.

I was going to write this exact same comment but I'm pan frying up some fat cakes and decided that was more important.

What the hell is a fat cake?

An egg and 1 oz of full fat cream cheese blended and poured into a frying pan. It's a high fat tortilla/pancake type deal. I use them for portable sandwiches.

Thank you for a relevant and beneficial post. Also, just for the sake of anyone reading this, it's getting pretty warm in the Midwest as well, so US mixers will want to read this as well.

Cheers!

Really good idea. Realized in the first few warm days of spring that my mixing area is gonna get hot soon. Do you store your flavors in the fridge too

Yup, but I have the barfridge just for my mixing stuff.

Yeah the bar fridge doubles as my mixing table as well which is perfect.

Is there an optimal temperature to store in or does it not matter unless it doesn't freeze the juice?

For VG/PG you could freeze. I would be careful with flavors being too cool. Let them warm up before mixing kind of defeats the purpose of constant temperature to me. The bar fridge at a lower temp, but not cold, is a great idea. I just keep my flavors in a cool(regularly) area(as the OP mentions).
