[removed]
IMHO time, before mods close out this thread.
Two sides to everything. While the original post was related to DIY it could of derailed into just a flame war (or circle jerk as been referenced).
First I like having a place where I can read stuff on DIY, and all the great information. However, there is a fine line when it comes to moderation vs censor ship.
The mod(s), removed the post most likely due to it being a call out on a DIY sub (even though the content is all about DIY), and to prevent it from derailing, or just poeple complaining, they removed it.
However, this is also censorship.
While the mod team and the owner of this sub have their own rights to remove what ever content they want, being their sub, I do feel that allowing people to voice their opinions on content that is related to DIY should be allowed.
I seem to remember sometime recently-ish about how the community was asking for more things to be talked about and be more engaging with the community, but one of the frist cases of someone expressing a not so popular opinion with the sub it get's shut down within two hours (IE when a mod most likely saw it, or got reported for what ever reason).
Mods: It's not expressed in the rules, but unless it's directly about recipes or flavor notes, or related stuff to DIY directly with only positive opinions, are we not allowed to post that content here? (PS: not trying to make it a loaded question, generally curious on the opinion of this)
That post had nothing to do with DIY mixing, it had to do with a product from a vendor which should have been addressed to the vendor directly.
Please note that the complaints department is active on this sub and you're welcome to click that link from your desktop. All complaints will be dealt with with immediacy.
I can see why you and the mods think it has nothing to do with DIY, but you have to understand, there is nowhere else to talk about something like this. He could very well email wayne, but what about everyone else who pays for the magazine?
It was an open discussion because many of us pay for his service, which is about DIY mixing.
When I saw the post, I considered it for a great while and then was going to post that it was off-topic and better suited for a discussion thread than its own post. When I went to post I realized the mods were a step ahead of me.
I have said before that I would NEVER accept moderatorship of any active sub because I am the wrong person to censor people. I am against censorship in general and in specific, but in this case I do agree with the thread removal because I want to discuss mixing flavors, not turn it into a shout-out or shit-out subreddit.
I love that the moderators keep vendor talk mostly out of it. Maybe we do need a discussions sub for that stuff.
I gotta say, this place really sucks now. Over moderating ruins every sub with enough time. This place has such few posts per day, it shouldn't even matter.
I don't care what you or the mods say about it being off topic or not the right place. WE are the people who come here and keep this place going. It was quite obvious that people wanted to talk about it, but nope. The mods didn't like it, so what they remove it.
The issue with that mentality is essentially that Wayne wasn't tagged by anyone in that post until Cannibal did it. So even with that, he wouldn't have known about it in general. Just talking amongst yourselves won't solve anything except for a circle jerk thread for everyone upset with the subscription
If you had an issue with a subscription service, would you make a thread to simply just vent to the rest of the community, or contact the vendor or person in charge directly and have a better chance of resolving the issue?
I think the obvious answer is the latter option. Plain and simple, if other people have issues with the service, then everyone with issues should email Wayne directly. Here is the lazy mentality. A post will be made detailing a customer grievance and everyone assumes, subconsciously or not, that Wayne is obligated to come to you and offer some sort of reconciliation. But if you were proactive, you'd email him and make a resolution happen to the best of YOUR ability.
Prepare for the downvotes. But you're used to that.
They get corrected pretty quickly! The other day I noticed I had -8 or something insane on a thread and when I woke up the next day it was +12 lol.
#teamrude FTW
I disagree. There was an active discussion and the issue was never addressed. It has EVERYTHING to do with DIY mixing.
So Wayne can promote his company here, but we can't discuss it when something negative happens?
It doesn't matter that you disagree, it matters that the rules of this sub are clearcut: this is a sub about discussing making e-liquids. Not about ranting about vendor issues. Even bitching about "my concentrates shipped late" aren't within the allowed topics.
Maybe we need a vendor shout-out/shit-out weekly thread for those.
I think the issue was there was no real discussion about anything mixing. It was just a lot of complaining about a magazine that talks about mixing. If there was any discussion about peoples opinions on the articles and how they relate to mixing that might have been different. But that thread wasn't really going anywhere aside from complaining about a person. ECR would have been a more appropriate subreddit for it.
This coming from me who posted a vapecrafter review which was pretty borderline appropriate for this sub and I would have been ok with it being removed.
Don't take it personal. Just take the discussion to a more appropriate place.
It has to do with a specific service, like someone complaining about ecigexpress. It was going to get deleted. This isn't a social network, we don't care what people do and don't subscribe to.
how was complaining about the diy-related service of "in the mix" magazine not delivering on what was ordered different than complaining about the diy-related service of ecx not delivering on what was ordered?
or are you saying they're the same thing and both would be deleted?
If that post had anything to do with this subreddit, it would have been left up. I remove shoutouts and calling-outs both because they don't contribute any valuable information.
Feel fre to repost that thread to ecr or another forum that allows useless posts.
Useless because you said so. Right.
God forbid anyone say anything bad about some from your clique!
I was still attempting to give you the benefit of the doubt with your posts because they weren't entirely shitty to any one person.
But now you're just doing what all shit posters do. Being butt hurt that a mod did their job and it didn't adhere to what you think is right. Go to /r/vaping for all your shit posting needs!
Depending on how it's brought up, I think InTheMix is pretty on-topic for this sub.
https://redd.it/3m1xjy - definitely started as a shitpost and turned into an interesting thread.
"if the magazine stays shitty throughout the next 6-7 issues, I'll vape 10mL of 8% TFA Cheesecake"
Now I see why you canned the post. If the consensus went the wrong direction you'd be making another video for us...
I subscribe to InTheMix to help keep /u/enyawreklaw going with all the great work he does. The zine itself wouldn't make me want to spend money, though.
Wow! A reasonable response? Don't let /u/skiddlzninja or /u/matthewkocanda see!
Seriously though, thanks for the input. It's clear the users of this sub agree that it is on-topic. The mods need to wake up and realize they are capable of being wrong.
Actually, I think /u/Apexified is a very great member of the sub and we've had plenty of great interactions. However, I still stand by what I said. I think Apex brings up a good point that a shitpost CAN turn into something beneficial, but the likelihood of that is slim. The mods do what they do to keep the sub as tidy as humanly possible. And I've said it a bunch of times now, but this is a MIXING sub, and while talking about ITM may be beneficial to the sub, the post itself had nothing beneficial except to talk about a dissatisfaction.
If the same post were reposted in a sense of suggesting ways to improve the subscription in ways that the community wanted, I think it may have been met with less resistance.
While Apex had a very well thought out response, Duke, you continue to be a self entitled child. Funny how that works.
6-7 issues have been done a long time ago. I canned the post because it pertains to less than 1% of the total subreddit. It's about someone having a specific issue with a specific service. I delete all those posts. People need to email the people who coordinate that service before coming here and making shit posts.
This isn't a place to air out your dirty laundry, this is a place to learn how to mix ejuice.
This post was also deleted, because instead of messaging the moderators and handling this in a civil fashion, /u/Duke____Silver decided to be childish and make yet another shit post. We would have gladly discussed the matter with him, and explained our reasoning behind the removal of the previous post.
I know why you actually canned it--I was just joking with you. You should have a whole series where you vape shitty juice and break down all the flavor notes. ;)
And even though I think your reason is valid and I believe you're a great mod, it makes me slightly uneasy seeing an InTheMix contributor "silencing" criticism of InTheMix. Know what I'm sayin'?
Shoutouts and callouts be damned, though. That shit gets old real quick. But I'd like to see a neutral post on InTheMix where people can discuss it freely. Considering how many people from this sub are involved in one way or another and how often this sub comes up on the podcast, it seems like a perfectly natural discussion to have.
Obviously OP went about it in a way that wasn't neutral but I'm curious whether the post would have been removed if the tone was different.
