Capella Vanilla Custard v2 tasting like plastic/chapstick

I was looking for a substitute for TFA Vanilla Custard without the diacetyl and was hoping Capella Vanilla Custard v2 would be it.

I'm using it at 3% in a recipe and the plastic/chapstick taste dominates the profile. TFA VC was delicious in the mix at 4% and it tastes completely different with Cap v2.

Anyway I'm just wondering if it needs to steep, or maybe I got a bad batch of Capella. The extract itself smells unpleasant with the same plastic/chapstick notes. Mixed at 10% standalone was pretty much unvapable.

bullshit. i call bullshit. where do you live, and how soon can you come over? i've been mixing capella by choice exclusively for a long while now, and you can still make a wicked brew using flavors from the safe list.

I like VCv2 a lot too though. I use it at around 3% when I want to taste it and around 1% in most of my mixes lately. VCv1 is way too pungent for me. No vomit/plastic smell or taste from my bottle of v2.

V2 is nearly ALWAYS sold out and the reviews are amazing , i personally can't stand the V1 .

i feel the same way. v1 had a cloyingly thick taste to it that was reminiscent of cough syrup.

I get a very distinct "vomit" flavor from anything with a v2 flavor in it after vaping the flavor for about a week. It really sucks because almost all of my favorites have custard v2 in it. And now I cant use FW yellow cake. What is real anymore :(

It has around 60% fructose content. There was a big thread about it a month ago. Apparently vaping fructose, and in high amounts, can be relatively unhealthy. Inhaling vaporized sugar doesn't sound good to me, and half my flavors have FW yellow cake in them.

Its the butric acid, I believe, it produces that almost egg fart smell. As mentioned, TFA Vanilla Swirl is an excellent replicant

Gotcha thanks. Any way to get that almost buttery custard taste without Diacetyl? That's what the recipe really needs, the Vanilla Swirl was great for the lighter vanilla and cream notes but still missing a little something.

Awesome thanks, I actually tried using FLV Sweet Coconut in the mix before. Not thinking as a Vanilla Custard replacement, but it ended up being really good without tasting much like Coconut. Maybe some Vanilla Swirl + FLV Coconut would do the trick.

That's just how it smells. Some of their other vanilla type flavors have the same unpleasant taste/smell as well. Some people love it though. Have you tried Vanilla Swirl from TPA? It's their Vanilla custard with the DA/AP/Acetoin removed and it's pretty good as a substitute.

Yeah TFA Vanilla Swirl is probably the best substitute I've found so far, but it's missing the custard notes (I know on the description they say it's vanilla custard without the custard so that's expected). I was hoping Cap v2 would still hit those custard notes.

Thanks for the reply though. I'm wondering if my senses just perceive it different than most because I see a good number of positive reviews. I have had a few other people try the Cap VCv2 standalone and in the mix and so far nobody likes it after 5 days of steeping.

You are gonna need much longer curing on V2 and it will never be as rich and custardy as the original.

From what I've read, V2 (and most other "safe flavors") need to steep for almost double the time of their regular versions. It won't taste the same, but I've read decent reviews about it once properly steeped.

I was really excited to try out the VC V2 and was a little off put when mixed with fruits that had higher notes like strawberry ripe or blueberry wild. But when coupled with flavors with darker, warmer, or thick notes it helps curve the cheesey or slightly sour notes you may be dealing with. When mixing with V2 I always add TFA vanilla swirl 2-3% and TFA marshmallow 1-2%

Send me the recipe and I'll mix a batch w my VCv2 and send it to you. Maybe I don't have the receptors for the plastic smell. My nose is pretty fucked up.

I haven't tried CAP mainly because when I was ordering my flavours, my local vendors don't really have CAP in stock when I order them (bar 2 flavours but no custards) so I ended up with FW vanilla custard and it has a really awful taste to begin with and smells atrocious.

yet when mixed with CAP bavaraian cream and TFA French vanilla, it is quite delicious. maybe the CAP vanilla custard v2 would benefit from something similar?

remember, you're only adding these other flavours to complement what you already have, so be careful you don't overpower the star of the show.
