Medicine flower has 2 different raspberries, regular and wild. What's the difference between these two?
I love wild raspberry because it has more of a wild-sweet note. My girlfriend loves regular raspberry because it doesn't have that wild-sweet note. Wild raspberry has a HINT of white raspberry (called blue raspberry by others) whereas regular raspberry tastes like a regular raspberry -- maybe a bit bitter, a tiny bit unripe.
Wild raspberry is the absolute bomb by itself at around 1.1%-1.8%. I mix a 15ml bottle every week as a palate resetter.
Both raspberries blend exceptionally well with non-MF flavors.
Does the wild raspberry have an unripe note? Is it jammy at all?
I don't find any unripe note to it, it comes off as much "sweeter" than regular raspberry. But if you use too much of it, the unripe top notes really come out. Start low, lower than you'd think. I've been pleased with wild raspberry singularly as low as 0.4% in full VG base, but it isn't an "bam in your face" flavor at all that low.
I'm considering just buying a 4oz bottle of the stuff because not only is it so good on its own, it's also one of my most popular sellers locally. I know I've reordered 1oz bottles as much as 3x in a month -- one bottle is enough to make 76 bottles of 30ml singular flavor at 1.3%. 3 ounces will make 228 bottles. The stuff is super potent.
I mix it with a bunch of disparate flavors all the time trying to find what works, and it's curious how well wild raspberry just works in everything I throw it at (finding the percentages is tough, and expensive). Recently mixed wild raspberry with MF Cucumber and MF Cantaloupe and really liked the outcome (wouldn't sell and I doubt 90% of people would vape it) -- it was just such a curious mix on my palate with such different inhale and exhale flavors coming forward.
My GF won't touch wild raspberry, though. She thinks it's "too sweet" and she prefers bitter flavors always. She will NEVER add sweetener to her mixes, and she avoids any kind of bakery, custardy or caramelic flavors completely. I also can't touch any of her favorites (honeydew, yuck).
If you can afford it, I actually highly recommend just getting both. I've never found many recipes where using both works well except in tiny amounts (0.2% wild and 0.3% regular is good towards a raspberry pancake recipe).
One important thing to note: steep time SUCKS for raspberry. It will get sweeter after 2 weeks, and then get jammier after 8 weeks of sitting in VG. If you want jammy, I'd suggest being super patient and taste testing throughout. I keep a bottle of 50% diluted wild raspberry in VG that I use for "jammy" and it's helpful in reducing steep time.
