Is Vanilla Bean Ice Cream really that flippin strong???
submitted over 9 years ago by redreaper013

Anything I've added Vanilla Bean Ice Cream to seems to over power my fruit flavors. I'm only using TFA at about 1% am I missing something here?

Herein lies the subjective nature of taste

I HATE VBIC with a PASSION, 2 drops in a mix and I can taste that disgusting taste I can't quite put my finger on. Whipped up some Mustard Milk and the smell almost made me throw up!

Shit finally someone agrees lol. It tastes almost dirty/peppery. Anyways I read somewhere I think abdada said Capella has the same taste minus something that could cause it. And I also heard vanilla bean gelato from tfa is good. Haven't had a chance to try either just bought CAP vbic and forgot to order the gelato from tfa so there goes that.

I have the gelato but haven't tried it yet. I know some people thinks its peppery but to me its just /dirty/. I don't know how describe it better than you did.

Glad I'm not the only one. I'm a huge fan of strawberries and cream/ vanilla but when i vaped the Mustard Milk recipe I felt nauseous. Never touched it again

TFA VBIC is pretty damn amazing.

Oh sorry, I just saw "Is Vanilla Bean Ice Cream really" and got excited. How did I get so many damn upvotes?

Yes, TFA VBIC is also really strong. It has a tendency to cover up certain fruits more than others, namely, strawberry, apple, and any background fruit flavors.

Mix with FA Raspberry for that incredible, mozzarella flavor you've always dreamed of.

Or FW Blood Orange for a nice creamy chicken top ramen.

If anyone wants to send me their vbic I will take it. I love it.

Where are you located? I wish I could find someone local to me because I have a full 4oz bottle of tfa vbic that is never going to be used. I just don't really want to bother with shipping.

Douglasville, GA. I may be able to pay shipping when I get paid.

I might ship it but at that point buying a 4oz from tfa directly or a reseller isn't that much more.

Same. I just picked up another 4 ounces a few weeks ago, and it's already almost gone. In small doses, I find it goes very well with a ton of creamy recipes.

I have around 6ml left of my 10ml bottle, if you pay shipping I'll gladly send it to ya :p

TFA vbic tastes like old nasty butter to me no matter what % I use or how long I steep my juice, anyone else?

Yep, I almost threw away my first batch of mustard milk before my friend/customer absolutely fell in love with it. It does taste a lot better after a week or two but I still feel a bit like I'm inhaling theater popcorn topping.

I have TFA vanilla bean ice cream and I use it between 2 and 6%

The longer it steeps, the stronger it gets. And it has a tendency to take center stage with anything you pair it with.

I've never had any luck with any grapes mixed with any creams.

It's really strong and really dry. I see it in a lot of recipes but it's not for me.

I've only mixed two recipes with TPA VBIC - Mustard Milk and My Dude. It is used at 8% and 4% in these recipes and all I can taste is VBIC in both of them. Maybe a touch of Sweet Strawberry in My Dude comes out, but mostly it's just VBIC to me. Mustard Milk with VBIC at 8% tastes like a sickly sweet vanilla lollipop rolled in powdered black pepper. I decided I'll never use TPA VBIC in my own recipes at these percentages but I'll maybe play with it at low %. Seeing that it overpowers fruit even at 1% makes me wonder should I even bother with this flavor.

You can probably use Vanilla Swirl instead, it's really light and won't destroy your fruits the way VBIC does. Or you can use fruits with more agressive flavor profile to come through VBIC. I've used a mix of Strawberry and Sweet Strawberry in My Dude as the recipe states and SS comes through a bit, I bet a touch of Dragonfruit would help it stand out a bit more. So you could use something to support your fruits maybe.

So TPA VBIC smells like sweet black pepper to me, I hadn't had a chance to try CAP version but I can feel that weird peppery odour from CAP Vanilla Custard (v2?) and a bit from TPA Bavarian Cream. TPA's Vanilla Custard smells fine though.

Glad I only got 15ml wish I had did the same with strawberry ripe. Strange how taste differs so much.

by zichloneover 9 years ago

What recipes have you used strawberry ripe in?

1 points

by igrowheathensover 9 years agoProud Sidebar Reader!

Mostly strawberries and cream. Tried it instead of regular strawberry in some of my favorite recipes and it turns out harsh to me. I do like it at 1-2% mixed with regular strawberry.

by catdumplingover 9 years ago

Strawberry Ripe is one of the most popular strawberry flavors out there. What don't you like about it? I love it, but you can't use much otherwise it gets very floral and tastes like you're vaping potpourri.

I love the way it smells it just seems harsh to me if I use over 2% and that tastes weak.

3 points

by sweaty_clitorisover 9 years ago

I mix it with regular strawberry usually in a 2:1 or 1:1 ratio depending on recipe. You get a much more true strawberry when you mix the 2 together.

I like Capella's VBIC a lot better than TFA 's , Vanilla Bean Gelato is just a no go for me , it's just awful whatever i try it with.

Gets good reviews though.

I bought some online for Mustard Milk and it's pretty good. In fact, I read on some forums that it's good by itself at 15 percent.

So thats what I did.

Pretty good, but apparently needs 4 weeks of steeping. Currently only 1 week in.
