Lets see. How do I start this one?
Despite the bold claim of the title the first time around, the more I vaped my Dreamsicle, the more I realized it was not quite perfect yet. The orange profile just wasn't right. It needed to be more rounded out. Cue me going to buy another box of Dreamsicles. For science!
Dreamsicle|% ---|--- TFA Vanilla bean ice cream | 2.75 TFA Vanilla swirl | 1 TFA Marshmallow | 1 FA Meringue | 0.25 TFA Orange cream | 3 FW Blood orange | 2.5 CAP Sweet Tangerine | 0.75
I have to thank /u/enyawreklaw for the suggestion on FW blood orange. It was the final piece to the puzzle.
The Base - TFA orange cream, TFA vanilla swirl, TFA vanilla bean ice cream
With these three flavors, we create a nice rich and creamy foundation with a strong orange flavor.
- TFA orange cream can be very assaulting on its own. Tasting more like orange rind than orange cream. However, it is very realistic and it creates a nice base to build on top on.
- In addition, the TFA vbic and TFA vanilla swirl give us a nice actual cream base. So far, I've found that roughly a 3:1 ratio of the two gives a nice creamy vanilla that is super dense and creamy. It fills your cheeks with ice cream awesomeness. This also helps to tone down the harshness of the orange cream rind taste.
Accent - FW blood orange, TFA vbic, CAP sweet tangerine
- Again, TFA vbic. This stuff is potent. I want it very forward in this mix, which is why we are using it at a pretty high amount. Dreamsicle had a much stronger vanilla ice cream taste than orange. It had a tendency to mute fruits as well, which is why there is so much orange in this recipe. You get a nice buttery smooth cream. It's literally the first thing you taste when your inhale, and you can smell it when you take the cap off the bottle.
- As for FW blood orange, this is an awesome flavor. This is what we want pushed forward. It still needs a little bit of rounding off, but for the most part, this is pretty damn close to what we taste in a dreamsicle.
- CAP sweet tangerine is the ultimate top note of this recipe. It's very sharp and distinctive. It adds that final touch to the orange flavor.
Background - FA meringue and TFA marshmallow
- Meringue. You know what it is. It's adding a bit of sweetness to the recipe. Not much I can say here that I haven't said before.
- TFA marshmallow it's a fun flavor in this recipe. It's doing so much. It's fluffing up the creams and making them taste more like the kind of ice cream you'd find in a popsicle that isn't so dense, but still allowing them to keep their richness. It's also sweetening the recipe with a little bit of EM while beating down the fruits and rounding them out.
Optional - Koolada to taste, sweetener to taste
Steep Time - It's perfectly fine as a shake and vape, but at about 5 days, the juice starts to turn a bright orange and the vbic hits it's stride. The orange are fully blended at this point to and you get that classic dreamsicle taste.
And an obligatory shout out to AllTheFlavors.

Edit: Ok, now that I'm on my PC and not fighting the mobile reddit app.
What didn't work
-
CAP Sweet Cream - I tried this a couple times. Every single time, it muted the oranges flavors so incredibly hard, they were just an essence of their former flavor. This flavor was especially gruesome to the Blood Orange flavor. Made it seem like I never even added it.
-
CAP Vanilla Custard - Too much egg. End of story.
-
FA Orange - This flavor just did not work for me at all. Way too chemically. Yes. I shook the bottle. It's my understanding this is a popular flavor. I still wonder if I got a bad batch of it, or if it's just ones of those things I don't taste the same as everyone else.
-
FA Mandarin - Not as chemical of a taste as FA Orange, but this flavor just didn't work for me either. Way too forward. The overall profile just wasn't right to me.
Goddamnit! I literally just finished mixing the previous version 10 minutes ago!
Y U DO DIS 2 ME?!
(saved by the way, thank you)
I'm sooooo sorry.
Guess I could just delete the recipe so you can pretend it doesn't exist 😊
No, I'm sorry! I just checked my ELR adaptation, and, as it turns out, this new recipe is the exact one I mixed up earlier today. My bad! (uncanny timing, though!)
I think you had TPA listed as the maker of Sweet Tangerine, though, but I just made it with CAP, so, it all worked out in the end.
You are correct. It's been on ELR for about two weeks while I was waiting for my second batch to steep. Wanted to make sure it was worthy of being called perfect this time.
And yes, someone just pointed that out to me on elr about an hour ago. It's been changed.
This post was an emotional roller coaster for me to read. I was excited to see a Dreamsicle flavor. I got more excited as I started to read the through flavors and realized I had everything. Then I got depressed because the one thing I don't have is Sweet Tangerine. Then I got excited because I did have FA Mandarin and Cirtus Mix and thought I could sub something. Then I got depressed when you specifically mentioned ST as key. Then I started to fool myself... 'tangerine... mandarin... they're kind of the same, right?'. Then I read the last sentence. Dreams crushed for today.
Been working on a Creamsicle for a while. Now I have to buy blood orange..
I wonder if this would work with grape.
Try with TFA Grape Juice and TFA Grape Candy, together. 2:1 Grape Juice. Tastes like a grape popsicle.
Maybe? I don't own a single grape flavor so I don't even know where to start with that, otherwise I'd at least offer a suggestion.
Oh my gosh, I was thinking about this too last night when I read the recipe. I have FLV Grape along with INW and FE, and also FW Grapeberry Ice and was wondering how to use some of those to turn this into a grape version some day when I start mixing :) It seems like it would be a great grape summer vape! I may just decide to put it at the top of my priority list when I start :)
Wow, so many grape flavorings. Please share your recipe and results if you do end up trying this.
I've always thought a grape creamsicle would be fantastic.
Yeah, I went a little overboard with my flavour purchases :) I wont be attempting any new recipe for a bit because Im just starting. But it may be tempting to just try subbing out the orange with a few of the grapes at some point. Seeing if it works, even if not perfect.
The Sweet Tangerine is what really brings it all together here. Mixing grape with it sounds pretty risky based on my experience. Mixing a legit grape is hard enough but then to add the dreamsicle onto it with sweet tangerine? I would love it if it worked but I am thinking that it won't.
I was thinking grape instead of the citrus flavors.
Well I have mixed both versions :) I mixed the first one yesterday morning and this one last night. At first I was a tad disappointed to see this post with the latest version but then I figured it would help me as a new mixer see how things change and develop. An opportunity of sorts. So thanks for these, I look forward to trying them soon, once I get my nic mixed in with them. I also think a grape version as someone else mentioned could be great as well. I may go to work on that once I feel comfortable doing so (and know what I am doing lol). Thanks for your notes, they really help me.
Look up matthewkocanda as well if you want to experiment with how recipes develop and change over time. I've already tagged him in another post. He posts revisions like this as well.
I missed the "What didn't work" section last night... I subbed CAP Sweet Tangerine with a little FA Mandarin. It smells good! Hopefully it's still decent. Anyway, just wanted to thank you for the recipe.
The flavor profile I've read other people describe makes it sounds like sweet tangerine, so if it tastes good to you, go for it!
You weren't joking about the orange color! That alone is worth it.
I've tried a lot of Orange Dreamsicle mixes. Orange Cream and Sweet Tangerine are so close to a fantastic blend but the orange just doesn't work even with the help from Sweet Tangerine. I've got to get that blood orange. I'm sure an Orange flavor is what is missing. Great work! I will probably kick the VBIC and up the Tangerine and Oranges a tad but I think you've nailed it!
This is what I've been looking for my WHOLE vape career. I keep trying the commercial ones but they are always orange death to me. This is spot on! Exactly like the ice cream. Mmmm... as soon as I get home I am going to go nuts making a huge batch of this. Thanks for being such a dank ejuice mix lord.
