DIY steeping and shacking machine
submitted over 9 years ago by vasco_

Shacking my juices is a recurring painful process for me due to some physical issues I have atm. I've posted before that I have experimented with an abandoned Power Plate in my GF her gym (after closing time), but that didn't really turn out to be very practical.

Either way last week my sis was on a vacation and thus I had to do the laundry for mom (who is in a nursing home), and used my sis her washing machine for this (a practical thing, easier than mine). Anyways while I was watching my mom her underwear getting wet and going around in circles I somewhat got in a trance, and I all of a sudden I got this brilliant idea: this is like the ideal 2-in-1 DIY machine, 2,5 hours on 60 degrees while constantly shacking. Went home and picked up a 5ml plastic bottle of juice I made the night before and put it inside 2 sealed plastic bags, then wrapped it inside a few old sheets and gave it a 2 hour try. I was really impressed with the outcome.

Now I'm considering testing it with a 100 ml bottle. Unfortunately I'll have to use my own washing machine to test it, so I'm a bit less keen. So maybe someone has tried this already and can share his / her feedback. Or maybe someone isn't as big of an idiot like me and could inform me of what can potentially go wrong? And is the steeping something I just imagine (and the taste is only improved due to the shacking), or is there indeed some potential in there?

since she has late state Alzheimer's I figured she would never read this so I could be a bit colorful (though I'd give all my money and Strawberry Ripe in the world for her to be able to read this again one day)

Congrats on being the first time a comment in this sub made me actually LOL. I lost it with the strawberry ripe.

On a side note, your comment gave me a good reason to try it beings it's been in my arsenal since Saturday. When I started, I ordered a 120mL of CAP Sweet Strawberry so I haven't ventured out to any other strawberry flavors until last week's order.

I'm sorry, but this thread is making me laugh like crazy because of "shacking". It should be shaking.

I didn't notice that at all. Found the meaning of to shack on the urban dictionary and have to admit it's quite the typo

if you are going to mention it, consider first fixing it and then putting the link to the UD entry in here so the lazy among us can laugh too :-)

Man when I first read /u/aphelax his comment I figured it was just a typo in the title, not much I can do, right? But when re-reading my OP a couple of hours later it turns out I write it like this all the time. And somehow I must have been writing it like this since like forever, and my spellchecker doesn't seem to give a shit. So yeah, why bother correcting it if I both can't edit the title and when there are some jokes about it already in this thread. Might as well leave it like this to be shamed forever.

Don't. Heat ruins a juice's shelf-life, and doesn't produce a vapeable product any quicker.

Please consult this thread for in-depth reasoning as to why heat and other "speed-steeping" is bad mmkay.

Over on ELR I see SO many recipe posts recommending juice be heated, sometimes for hours, leaving uncapped for days, etc etc just to speed up the aging process. It drives me fuckin crazy! I was leaving comments about it but realized the majority of those newb mixers are too stubborn, just plain ignorant, or too lazy to take advice. `Course these are the same people that add 10% sweetener to a recipe and call it a success. <sigh>

My New Recipe

Guyz, I sell this at my local vape stores all the time. I'm a real mixer, I swear! This is my tip-top premium juice and I'm giving it away for free.

 • TFA Honey @ 8.5217643%
 • TFA Honeysuckle @ 1.4782357%
 • 24k Gold @ .001g/ ml
 • CAP Super Sweet @ 10%
 • Total flavoring: 20%

Honey and Honeysuckle These two flavors blend super well together. Don't you just love the beautiful floral aroma of cat piss? It really gets me going in the morning.

Gold This is the premium kicker right here. It vapes well, creates a feeling of... richness and lends a beautiful mouthfeel to the juice. I love metal particulates on my tongue.

Super Sweet This is a requirement for every premium juice ever. I love feeling my teeth rot in my head. It really just finishes the juice off.

DO NOT CHANGE THESE PERCENTAGES. THEY ARE PERFECT.

by probywan1337over 9 years agoI will rip you a new one if you don't use the sidebar & search.

Someone on ecr did a huge write up about testing with a washing machine. I think the conclusion was that it's not worth while. The bottles leaked a lot and heat is known to hurt mixes in the long run. I think some people have had success attaching bottles to power tools and shaking that way. Do a search and you should find a few posts about it

> attaching bottles to power tools

I've toyed with the idea of dragging out my sawzall (reciprocating saw) and making a bottle attachment.

by GDubz96over 9 years ago

I do that and it works really well. Leave a little space in the bottle while shaking and the juice will look like foam afterwards!

But the noise! But good idea I'd say.

The empty toilet paper/paper towel roll over the end of my DeWalt drill with a couple paper towels wrapped around the bottle inside idea I read here a while back actually worked out well for me.

I also use something stiff (I use a marker) to apply pressure to the opposite end of the blade while shaking. The blade tends to wiggle back in forth with bottles over 30ml's.

How about a magnetic stir plate? I use one myself, works well.

Also, you may want to check these out:

Wooah, someone already tried this. Of course. I googled it before, but nothing came up, guess I used the wrong terminology. Thanks for compiling that interesting list.

Am I the only one that puts all my Diy juice that needs a shakin' in a big freezer bag to shake it all at once?...

I shake mixes for like 10 seconds, tops. Then I let it sit for a few days before trying. This is more than enough to let everything come together. Obviously more time may be required for heavy flavors like custards to come out, but a day or 2 seems to be plenty to get everything homogenized.

The only things that really require shaking are nic base and flavors right before you use them, everything else, time takes care of it.

This is what I do. I'm confused by the extreme lengths people go for "shacking". Even at 20/80 I usually only shake until it looks mixed which takes <20 seconds. But to each their own or whatever.

Vortex Genie 2 is the solution

My recommendation would be a paint stirrer like for mixing air brush paints. Spins super fast small enough to fit in any bottle over 20mls. Nothing mixes better nothing.

I can't stop laughing at the wording...anyways I use a robart mini paint shaker to shake mine . Works quite ok and not too expensive.

Manually shaking is a PIA so I've begun placing my juices on the seat of my Harley for about 2 minutes. The vibration works great.

3 points

by vasco_over 9 years ago

Yeah the other day I was considering buying a Harley for the sole purpose of shaking my juices, but then I figured that it would be cheaper if I would just hire a few refugees and let them jump with my juices for a couple of hours instead.

Thinking about somehow taping some bottles to one of my turntables and have that spin for 30 minutes or so.

MY GOD, WORDING!

Seriously, consider reading and revising man, that all sounds like a really good idea but I just can't get past the fact that it sounds like it was translated into and then back out of some sort of lemur language by asylum inmates.

Well I do my best to spell properly, but since English is only the 3rd language I learned I admit that it's far from how a native speaker would write. And somehow I have been spelling shaking as shacking since like forever, without any spellchecker giving a shit.

2 points

by theBigDaddioover 9 years agoMixologist

Good job anyway you got your point across better than many native English speakers. You know at least three languages and the guy complaining probably only knows one!

2 points

by wh1skeyk1ngover 9 years ago

When reading the initial text, I just figured "shacking" was a European term for something a washing machine did.

2 points

by kuppajavaover 9 years ago

I need to revise my original statement:

Good job considering English is your 3rd language, but make sure to use a good spellchecker and read for grammar after typing it out so that way you don't have to slow down the laying down of your ideas. After that, reread one more time for context, meaning and clarity.

A good spellchecker wouldn't catch the shaking/shacking mistake anyway, since both are actual words. Can't rely on technology for everything.
