Twinklez. A surprising success.
submitted over 9 years ago by SteepingTakesTime

Hey guys! Since my Ube Custard recipe was so well received I figured I'd share something else with you. This one is a little different though. I was inspired by another juice, and I don't have such extensive notes since this recipe was actually my first attempt and better than any of my revisions since. I think it's pretty damn close, but if any of you improve it I'm all ears.

This is inspired by Mama's Oven Vapery - Twinkeez It's a pretty good Twinkie flavor. I think it has some problems and I wanted to take a crack at it. I felt like their flavor lacked body. As in mouthfeel. It didn't feel heavy and cakey. It also completely annihilated cotton/coils. I changed my cotton about every 10 mLs.

I don't know if I should call this a clone or not, because I definitely was inspired by a juice, but I wanted to improve it, not imitate it.

So without further ado here's the recipe. I like it because it's really easy to make, uses ingredients that I see commonly on here, and tastes awesome.

Flavor | % Added ---|--- FW Yellow Cake | 5% TFA Whipped Cream | 2% TFA Marshmallow | 2% TFA Vanilla Swirl | 2% TFA Sweetener (Sucralose 10%) | 2% Total | 13%

I make all of my juices 50/50. I'm sure it could hold up to more VG but I think anything more than 50% is doing nothing but taking away flavor. I also like for my juice to work in any device.

One note about this one, from the feedback I've gotten it tastes best at lower temperature/wattage. I like it cranked up to 11, but I just like toasty vapes.

Here's my logic behind the recipe.

FW Yellow Cake

If you smell this stuff you'll know exactly why this is the primary note I'm using here. It is so damn accurate. There are very few flavor extracts I think represent what they're supposed to without any assistance from other flavors. This one is so definitively yellow cake. Holy shit. It's awesome.

TFA Whipped Cream

I wanted this to be the main note of the filling. When I think of Twinkie filling I think fluffy, light, airy filling. Whipped cream gives me those light cream notes that I'm seeking.

TFA Marshmallow

I'm pretty sure this is the secret weapon to this flavor. I think this is what the Mama's Vapery people missed. This really gives it more body without adding too much flavor. Just fluffs it up.

TFA Vanilla Swirl

This is to compliment the Whipped Cream. I really like this flavoring. It plays so nicely with other things. It also has a nice vanilla flavor without being spicy like Vanilla Bean Ice Cream from Capellas.

Sweetener

2%?!?! I know. It's a lot. Trust me. It makes it right. Twinkies are ridiculously sweet. This is a very important aspect. Drop it down or completely out if you want, because I know so many of you hate sweetener. I think it's a bad idea, but you'll still be close enough to Twinkies that it probably will still be enjoyable.

Steep time

This really only needs overnight. It is best after 3 days. I wouldn't shake and vape because all you get is cake. The filling needs time to develop.

I'm pretty sure this flavor is loaded up with Diketones. Personally, I don't worry about that kind of thing, so I don't even look it up, but you might want to consider that if you're afraid of them.

This is also pretty rough on cotton. Not as bad as the original, but still not great.

Hail Hostess.

In all seriousness, is Yellow Cake like taboo now? It's so ridiculously delicious. That would sadden me.

It's not really "taboo", but it's 30% fructose. That could be a really bad thing. It could not be a bad thing. We won't know the true effects until a good, non-biased study is released. From just a quick read, it seems like it's a terrible thing (at least in theory). This is coming from someone who says "give me all the diketones possible in every recipe", but I'm slowly working it out of rotation.

Yellow cake has always sucked (I WILL be that blasphemer) but it's sweet because it's 30% fructose syrup by weight.

I don't mind diketones, but I feel different with vaping pure sugars.

Try this instead:

  • 6-8% Vanilla Cupcake V1 CAP
  • 1-2% Yellow Cake FW
  • .5% Vienna Cream FA
  • .5% Vanilla Custard FLV
  • .5% Marshmallow FA(Optional)

This was always a perfect twinkie vape to me, with very little gunking. I'm not sure if I'd even taste yellow cake beneath all that cream & sucralose in your recipe.

This sounds really good thanks

think some sucralose is fine for a twinky type recipe, I'd probably use 0.50% myself. btw have you tried fa's nonna cake yet was wondering what your opinion was on it.

have not. Reviews don't seem good at all. I know Manson doesn't like it.

Will give this a go. Will use FA marshmallow though as that's all I have atm.

Do you think I can replace sucralose with EM?

Not for a twinkie.

Looks tasty although I would think this would gunk coils as bad as the original. FW Yellow Cake and Sucralose? Gunk city.

Yeah. It's not very easy on coils. But, it's super tasty. I think it's worth it on occasion. It's definitely too sweet to be an ADV for me anyway.
