Earlier this week I had posted in the new mixers questions thread asking for help making the mango in this recipe juicier and adding a syrupy taste.
Kazoo v1
Brown Sugar Cinnamon Mango
(TFA) Mango @ 3.5%
(TFA) Brown Sugar @ 1.25%
(FLV) Cinnamon Crunch @ 3%
(TFA) Juicy Peach @ 2.5%
(INW) Vanilla Shisha @ 1%
Nothing in the original recipe really popped out at me. It tasted very light and a little too earthy. So at the advice of everyone that commented I ordered up a different mango and a few other flavors to try and make this mango mine!
Kazoo
(TFA) Strawberry @ 1%
(TFA) Brown Sugar @ 1%
(INW) Cactus @ 0.25%
(FLV) Cinnamon Crunch @ 3%
(TFA) Jackfruit @ 0.5%
(TFA) Quince @ 0.25%
(TFA) Mango @ 1.5%
(CAP) Sweet Mango @ 3.5%
I gave it a taste right after mixing and felt that it needed a few days to come together. I put it in my steeping box and forgot about it. Cut to this morning; I pull it out of the box, juice up a fresh build and it is exactly what I was looking for! Juicy mango slices in a rich brown sugar cinnamon syrup.
The Notes
Mango: (TFA) Mango isn’t great by itself, but I found that at a lower percentage it gives off a slightly earthy taste like the skin of a mango. (CAP) Sweet mango is sweeter and juicer. Together I get a nice balanced mango flavor without being overly sweet on it’s own.
Brown sugar cinnamon: (TFA) Brown sugar adds a rich sweetness and the (FLV) Cinnamon Crunch has a powdered sugar cinnamon taste. I feel that together they create that cinnamon/sugar taste without adding a heavy bakery note.
Juicy syrup: I would have never thought to use other bright fruits to bring out the Mango, but I’m super glad I asked. (TFA) Strawberry @ 1% adds a nice sweet syrupy taste without introducing any real strawberry note. (INW) Cactus, (TFA) Jackfruit, (TFA) Quince all brighten up the mango and add that juicy taste I was looking for.
Thank you u/skiddlzninja , u/Nicobeak , u/coop34 , and everyone else for the advice. You guys are all great.
edits: formating, please be gentle...
Looks good, I'm glad it worked out. This is the second recipe I have seen lately that combines brown sugar with mango; I'm going to have to give it a shot.
Mango is a tough one to mix with other bold flavors; supporting fruits are definitely necessary imo. I don't have the jackfruit or quince at the moment, but I may mix a variation of this up pretty soon. Thanks for sharing it.
