I'm a big one track mind type of person and ever since I started DIY I have been on the look-out for a flavor that sticks to this juice I tried from a local line. It's a cinnamon, but it's smooth and doesn't have that "hot" feeling, more of a sweetness to it. I have tried different types of Cinnamon and here's my research.
Flavor West's Cinnamon Roll: This flavor is one of my favorites. I have went from Sugar Bear clones using this at 10% to using it at 4% with TFA's Cinnamon Danish at 1% and it tasting harsh on my throat after a day of steeping. Day two was fine, day three is harsh again. Am I missing something here?
Capella's Cinnamon Danish Swirl - This is probably the bane of my existence as a DIYer. I cannot do this flavor in anything other than the Sugar Bear clone. I thought I loved it but it's just too much of a chemical-like throat hit to me.
TFA Cinnamon Danish - I'm new to this but so far this one has been nice as a muffin base for a Blueberry Muffin, and a Banana Nut Bread I did both at very low percentages. I have yet to try this by itself like the others but I fear it might be the reason why I'm getting the hot sensation from my recent mix with Flavor West's Cinnamon Roll.
Flavor West's Caramel Cinnamon Roll - seems legit, tried it once or twice. The last time it came out like Cinnamon Red Hots and I folded against it.
TFA's Cinnamon Spice - at low percentages this is good in some recipes. I haven't experimented with it myself as it's very potent. It may be what I'm looking for though.
It seems stupid but I know that the flavor profiles in what I'm trying to recreate but a mellow baked cinnamon is hard to find. Anyone know what I'm missing in this hunt?
FLV Rich Cinnamon diluted down or probably more likely FA Cinnamon Ceylon
ugh, I don't know what it is about cinnamon ceylon, but everything it touches makes it tastes like curry to me. Like, Wayne's bluenuts just tasted like blueberry curry and made me want to smelt my atomizer.
I second this. When I first got cinnamon ceylon a long time ago I was so excited to get it because I heard nothing but great things. I used it once and have hated it ever since. It just has a weird flavor or something. Anyway, FLV Rich Cinnamon diluted is great.
Oh, wow, curry, I thought that was just me. Thanks for posting this. It didn't disgust me as much, but it definitely isn't useable in the way I thought it was. I get a lot more mileage out of FLV Rich Cinnamon for sweet bakery/cereal stuff.
Cinnamon Ceylon will be a welcome addition if I ever get serious about my Indian Pudding recipe again.
I have to ask here, because cinnamon is subjective. What one(s) taste like hot red cinnamon, and which one(s) taste like a brown sugary cinnamon? I know CAP Cinnamon Danish Swirl, but haven't ventured off that because it's worked well in my recipes. I'm looking for a more sugary cinnamon rather than a hot red cinnamon.
Bonus: CAP Cinnamon Danish Swirl V2 is very chemical tasting initially, but really needs 3-4+ weeks to develop true results in my experiences. To me, it has a rich brown sugar-cinnamon taste. It's a really good flavor if you can wait a month.
FLV Rich Cinnamon couldn't possibly smell more like Red Hots to me in the bottle, which made me very nervous to use it in any recipes I came up with.
I used it in a recipe posted by another redditor to start and was immediately impressed with how "real cinnamon" it was. If you're looking for "cinnamon sugar" pair it (at reeeeeaaaallllly low percentages) with TFA Brown Sugar and you'll be very happy.
I hope I'm as wrong about FLV Lime as I was about Rich Cinnamon.
Cool, I have TFA Brown Sugar... Any ideas how it plays with FA Cinnamon Ceylon or CAP Cinnamon Danish Swirl v2?
Honestly, no. I've only used FLV Rich Cinnamon with TFA Brown Sugar, which is great at one or two drops of Rich Cinnamon, straight from the 15ml dripper bottle (which will last you a long-ass time) with 0.50% TFA Brown Sugar.
I used that mix recently in /u/InsigmaTheory's "French Quarter" clone with orgasmic results. I'm going to try it in /u/botboy141's "Elephant Ears" recipe & /u/kirkt's "Dumbo Ears" recipe next, because cinnamon & cardamom... mmmmh!
Sounds like FLV Rich Cinnamon is what you're looking for. I've tried FA Cinnamon Ceylon, TFA Cinnamon, FLV Rich Cinnamon, and LA Cinnamon Roll, so far the only one that really hits that cinnamon note I want is the FLV Rich Cinnamon. FLV Cinnamon Crunch is also nice if you want a light, sweet, cinnamon flavor with some added texture -- I liken it to like a cinnamon crumble
