(A Much, Much Nicer) **[glas] Pound Cake** (Than What's Out There Now)
submitted over 9 years ago by emanstic

My bro came over and said, "Damn, you tasted this business yet? It's amazing but I hate paying $20/30ml for it." I told him "say no more" and went to work. Prior to him bringing over the original I had tried the few other clones out there. After trying the original I decided that they're ambitious, but don't make the cut.

The Mouthfeel

Anyone who's ever had the original will tell you that it feels like inhaling cotton balls. I started with a few things but ended up with Marshmallow+Dairy/Milk. I tried a few other things but nothing gave the thick, sweet feeling like these two together.

The Cake

What can I say, there's no better buttery af waffle flavor like TFA Waffle. I had tried INW's and it's good, but it just wasn't for this recipe. Along with this, the Pandoro+Custard gave an extra Cake+Lemon to the mix that is a perfect addition to the final.

The Spice/Sweetness

Anyone who's had the original can attest to the subtle, and sometimes not so subtle, spice that you get on the exhale, like nutmeg and cinnamon. This is where the Cream Cheese Icing+Horchata comes in. It gives that taste on the exhale and is glorious.

The Lemon

The original had a very light lemon to it. The Custard lends to this but it still needed something to give it that extra "oh baby that's good" to it. So what else than FE Lemon. Albeit at a small amount, but it's just enough there to bring all the other flavors up a notch to finalize this Pound Cake.

[glas] Pound Cake

  • (TFA) Marshmallow 5%
  • (FA) Pandoro 2.5%
  • (TFA) Waffle 3%
  • (FA) Custard 2%
  • (TFA) Dairy/Milk 2%
  • (LA) Cream Cheese Icing 1.3%
  • (TFA) Horchata Smooth 1.5%
  • 2 drops FE Lemon per 10mls

Final Notes: I blended this at 80/20 and tested on a Mutation X V4. You can get a good idea of what it'll taste like after shaking but it needs about 4 - 7 days to fully develop the thicker cakey flavor. I actually was only given ~3mls to use as the original to go off of so a lot of it was done by memory. Though when my friend came back and tested the final mix, he gave it his stamp of approval as a verifiable clone. So if you don't think so, you do better.

Is there any possible replacement for the FE Lemon? I only ask because they are terrible about keeping it instock 9 times out of 10

I didn't even try anything else since it's the perfect lemon, but if I had to guess, maybe a .3 - .5% of Lemon Sicily may work well.

No doubt, I love it! I just know how many times they've run out of it in the past, so was just curious. Thanks!

lemonade by Loranns is a great sweet but not so sweet lemon, it tastes as if you have lemonade drink mix in your mouth.

Finally, a use for my Horchata Smooth and Pandoro!

Looks awesome, but I don't have pandoro or horchata. I'm going to try working with substituting some FA Catalan Cream for the spice and INW Lemon Cake at a lower percentage. I'll report back!

I already tried using INW Lemon Cake at lower %'s. It's not quite right. Never tried the Catlan Cream though. Might work.

I had also tried Nonna's Cake. And while very good, it wasn't for this mix. Nonna's is a cross between Cake Batter and Yellow Cake. And with that being as it was, it threw this mix off; but is going to be able to be used in another cakey mix.....and it will reign supreme.

Glas also has an awesome fruit Pebbles flavor. Solid mixes from them

Thanks for the notes, and the recipe I'll be mixing this up as soon as I order a couple of the flavors.
