Here we are, another dessert recipe that I decided to mix up thanks to something I noticed during my last flavour order. I saw a banana split flavour concentrate, can't remember the vendor, but I thought, fuck getting a concentrate, I can make this my damn self. Recipe below, flavour notes below that.
BNNSPLT (pending v1 title)
Recipe
- TFA Strawberry Ripe at 6.5%
- TFA Strawberry at 1%
- TFA Dragonfruit at 2.5%
- TFA Banana Cream at 1.25%
- TFA Vanilla Bean Ice Cream at 1.5%
- CAP Marshmallow at 0.35%
- INW Biscuit at 0.5%
- FA Almond at 0.2%
- FA Caramel at 0.5%
- TFA Koolada at 5 drops per 15ml
- Optional - CAP Chocolate Glazed Donut at 1%
Flavour notes
Profile - sweet strawberry bite on the inhale, creamy vanilla sits on the tongue, then the banana really comes through on the exhale. On top of this, you get a nice HINT of a dry almond in the exhale, which balances everything out.
80VG/20PG - I find that mixing this at a higher VG for this recipe works well because the added sweetness and higher density of the vape plays well with the mouthfeel of the flavour profile
Steep Time - shake and vape is delicious. Flavours all mix together nicely, but still have enough distinction to know what you're vaping. After 2-3 days of steeping, you'll get more creaminess and more banana.
TFA Strawberry Ripe/TFA Strawberry/TFA Dragonfruit - you already know. The addition of TFA Strawberry helps push the fruity sweetness and prevents the strawberry ripe/dragonfruit combo from becoming too earthy and "realistic." I wanted to keep the strawberry in the background here, but I also wanted it to stay almost candy-sweet. Adding TFA Strawberry helps with this, and if you want more strawberry flavour, leave Ripe as it is, push plain strawberry maybe 0.5 - 1%.
TFA Banana Cream - although this recipe is a banana split, TFA Banana Cream is a fickle beast. After a steep, it really pushes forward in any mix I've used it in. Leaving it at 1.25% allows the flavour to be noticeable in a shake and vape, and you'll only continue to notice more of it with time.
TFA VBIC/CAP Marshmallow - this is obviously the ice cream base. I added CAP marshmallow in here to emulate the whipped cream, I don't particularly like how muted TFA Whipped Cream is, and I know if I use enough of it in the mix to actually taste, it won't stand up to a steep. Using CAP marshmallow adds that fluffy, creamy, sugary sweetness you want, without the need to use a lot and potentially ruin the recipe after a few days. Same with VBIC, it's potent, so leave it between 1.5 - 2%, depending on how strong you want that element to be. Just remember that this note gets stronger over time.
INW Biscuit/FA Almond/FA Caramel - the "toppings" in a banana split. You'll notice that I've omitted any sort of cherry, and if you think about it, this makes sense. When you eat a banana split, you don't taste cherry the entire time you eat it. I'm trying to keep this as true to the actual dessert as possible in terms of flavour profile, so I've left any cherry elements out. And, well, I don't like cherry flavours in general. Anyway, the mix of biscuit, almond, and caramel work together in a few ways. First, they add a nice counterbalance to the creamy sweetness of the rest of the mix. The biscuit/almond combination adds a nice note of a dry almond on the exhale, while the caramel keeps everything smooth and sweet. I also used the biscuit and almond to counteract the VBIC and Banana Cream from overpowering everything during steeping. Any sort of nut or "dry" element will help stop those flavours from destroying everything else.
Koolada - at 5 drops per 15ml, the cooling aspect is ever so slight. I like it in there because it aids in making it FEEL like ice cream. But this is not a necessary element. Adjust according to how much cold throat feel you like in your vape.
CAP Chocolate Glazed Donut - alright, so I don't really like chocolate vapes, but I know a banana split has chocolate syrup. So I found that using a small bit of this flavour works nicely in the recipe. It adds the chocolate element in a small way, and CAP CGD is nice because it also adds a little more body to the whole recipe. You don't actually taste a doughnut, you just get a little more of a full-bodied mouthfeel by using it. I used it minimally in my recipe because, again, I don't really like chocolate vapes because it ends up being all I taste, but at 1 - 1.5%, it'll just be there as a side note. You can push this more if you want to have a stronger chocolate note, just be careful not to let it overpower the mix or add too much of a doughnut flavour. I'd say 3% is probably the absolute highest you could go here if you use this particular flavour.
Alright! I'm really digging this mix so far. I needed something new after vaping my bourbon pear recipe for the past three days straight. And, I feel like everyone needs a good strawberries n cream recipe, I just wanted mine to have a little more punch to it.
Hope y'all enjoy, let me know what you think, and any possible changes that could be made. I'm going to experiment with using LA Banana Cream once it gets here, but even so, this works nicely as it is.
Cheers!
inb4 "can I substitute"
inb4 "no meringue???"
I can't taste the cactus though!
FUCK. I actually meant to include cactus in my last flavour order because I know it does have potential for fruit mixes. I knew I was forgetting something in that order. It really never ends.
Fuck...IIRC it seems like just a minute ago you wrote in a post saying you were gonna branch out from using just Cap and TFA. Now you are killing it! Awesome write-up...placing in my calc now. Thanks for posting!
This is true! I was essentially just getting sick of TFA because I felt like the flavours weren't working. But that was before I really sat down and starting experimenting with each flavour by itself. Turns out I just wasn't mixing them together properly, hence the baby vomit recipes of a few months ago that almost turned me away from DIY entirely. So glad I took the time to focus on each flavour seperately.

The key.....
This looks great! I will definitely be mixing some up after work tonight. Thank you for sharing this with us, and your notes are incredibly helpful. I was playing around with an ice cream base last week and while I didn't get too far, I can see what you mean about TFA's Whipped Cream and VBIC. I think I'm going to give CAP's Vanilla Whipped Cream a try with your recipe and see if that fluffy sweetness can be maintained while enhancing the vanilla as well...Thanks again!
I've never tried CAPs version so definitely let me know how it works in the recipe. I do love this recipe and am vaping it right now with my coffee, but it definitely is not perfect yet. Still gotta tweak some things, especially once my new flavor order arrives (hopefully today).
But thank you, I'm glad some people are willing to mix up my recipes. It makes me feel like I'm starting to get somewhere with my mixes.
Sheesh, guess I'll have to mix this up tonight.
I'm curious how dragonfruit 2.5% is going to turn out. Seems like a lot in my experience with it.
I'll mix up your drunken pairs tonight as well.
The dragonfruit at 2.5 has usually been my go to for pushing the flavour of strawberry ripe, but I do think it might be a little much in this particular recipe. It doesn't necessarily hurt the recipe, but I don't think it is entirely helping either. Gonna try another mix once my new flavours get here with a few changes I wanna make.
But, even as is, this mix is a great change from the pears. Might just focus on dessert flavours for now, seems to be working for me. And I'm trying to get like, three or four solid recipes down so I can make my own little lineup. Not trying to sell it or anything, it would just be cool to start making a name for myself as a mixer.
I'm liking this.
Initial Impressions:
- Wish I could taste the almond more
- Dragon fruit is prominent, but no where near as much as I thought it would be.
- TFA Banana Cream tastes really good in this. One of the few times I prefer it over LA
- The strawberries are perfect
- Might up caramel to 0.75-1.0
Fantastic job. I love it. I don't want to comment on it too much more until it steeps. It definitely needs it. Very creamy with lots of complex flavors. It needs time.
I've been looking for this flavor profile and this recipe sounds amazing. How long does it need to sit for or is it good off the bat?
EDIT: Helps if I would read.... I'll be making this soon.
I have all the flavours apart from the 2 you say are optional and I only have FA Marshmallow. I can see that marshmallow is quite low I this recipe and was wandering if you had any idea of what % to use FA version at?
Great looking recipe BTW and just in time as I was looking into doing the exact same just with no strawberries
it looks good but im just so wary of dragonfruit. it honestly makes me sick to my stomach in any mix ive tried, noticeable or not. maybe its the batch but it really does taste like artificial bubblegum or something to me.
I'm working on a v2 recipe and removing dragonfruit from the mix because it really doesn't seem to be doing anything in this recipe, and I think the excess of flavours may have been muting some other things. So I'll be posting a new version soon without the ol d fruit haha.
