3 weeks ago I was wondering what the impact would be on the end result if I kept certain flavors separate from others for a few days. So in short consider a recipe that takes 5% of flavor A, B, C and D.
I made 1 batch where I mixed the whole recipe, 80% VG / 20 % PG, which steeped for about 3 weeks.
Then I made a sample batch where I mixed A/B with 80% VG and then C/D with 80% VG. After 5 days of steeping I mixed both and let it steep for another 2 weeks +. I did the same with A/C and B/D combos.
What I noticed is that the latter combo (A/C+B/D) is pretty much the same as the actual recipe. However the A/B+C/D experiment almost seems like a totally different recipe.
One can argue that the initial recipe steeped 5 days longer than my 2 experiments, which is of course correct. I'm not sure if this enough reason to render the whole experiment useless.
Now I was curious about 2 things:
- in case my little experiment is too bogus, what would you consider better circumstances to obtain better 'test' results?
- is there any science behind this? as in: is this something that veterans/pro juice makers even consider?
Note: In case you are curious, I used 4 flavors from vapebase:
A: Banana
B: Strawberry
C: Deep Blue
D: Kokos
I am gonna guess that you made your two flavour batches with 10% (each flavouring) instead of 5%, so that it makes the final batch equivalent to 5% of each?
Anyway, I have tried a similar experiment, my results were that initially (straight after mixing the two batches together) the taste was different to the standard mix, but it is short lived. The mix will taste the same once it has time to homogenise fully.
