Deadly Sin my way [recipe]
submitted over 9 years ago by xXwhite_whaleXx

A few years ago I made the switch from analogs to vaping and started with RY4 and other tobacco types. A friend of mine filled a 10ml bottle of Deadly Sin from Good Life Vapor and gave it to me. I thoroughly enjoyed the complexity it brought to the table. It curved my cigarette cravings and introduced me to bakery type juices which I still enjoy today.

I've been trying to recreate, not clone, but find a similar RY4 profile and add it to my rotation.

I used /u/kriga Deadly Sin clone for the inspiration.

http://reddit.com/r/DIY_eJuice/comments/2ecosh/an_update_on_the_deadly_sin_clone_its_done_again/?ref=search_posts

  • TFA RY4 Double 5%
  • FW Butterscotch 4%
  • CAP Vanilla Custard v1 2%
  • CAP Cinnamon Danish Swirl 1%

Batch:1
Excluding the Vanilla Custard the original recipe called for a mix of 5/5/5. I mixed the first batch and let it steep 2 weeks. The Cinnamon Danish Swirl was very harsh to my liking. It added a natural sweetness to the mix but it was overly sweet and the cinnamon was in your face. Not something I would consider ADV worthy. Overall the flavor profile was there. I can see where others may enjoy this. It was not complete.

Batch:2
I immediately decided to lower the Cinnamon Danish Swirl to 2%. /u/kriga suggested adding Cap Vanilla Custard 2% for body/depth and added sweetness.

After a 2 week steep I was getting somewhere. The complexity of the mix was even better. The RY4 is now more pronounced. It's the forefront of the mix. The level of cinnamon to my taste is much better but still not quite perfect.

I can taste the butterscotch. FW Butterscotch in this mix is beautiful. It's the glue to the recipe and brings out the characteristics of the other flavors., but it's almost a little too perfumey.

The Vanilla Custard was a very welcomed addition to my mix. It added more depth to this recipe and made it feel "heavier". I was worried it would be too sweet but lowering the CDS in addition to the Custard made it very balanced.

Batch:3
Ladies and Gentleman we have a winner. I have not allowed this to steep for the entire 2 weeks. I'm 8 days in and had to try it.

The first smell is incredible. It's like walking into a bakery. Very balanced. Not one flavor stands above another. I can't allow this so steep for another week. I'm going to vape it now.

RY4 on the inhale followed by a delicious blend of cinnamon Danish, butterscotch, and custard on the exhale.

The butterscotch is no longer "sharp" and the cinnamon is just right. At one percent we still get the full flavor of a cinnamon Danish crammed into the bottle but without being overpowering. It's sweet, complex, and is no longer "dry".

There you have it. Try it. Let me know what you think. I apologize if my notes were all over the place. I'm no writer and describing flavors was never my thing. But this community has helped me understand the importance of taking notes and keeping them. It helped me remember what I did and didn't like. What my next variant should accomplish.

PSA this recipe like all my others has been tailored for use in my Kayfuns. I am always cautious with flavor % because the Kayfun brings the most out of any mix I do. Too much flavor and I could easily get vapors tongue.

Nice! I've made a few tweaks of my own since then, like switching to FA's RY4, dropping the CDS to 4%, and adding 1% of FA Joy. I'll have to give this one a try.

Hey Kriga! Thank you for the inspiration for this recipe. I thoroughly enjoy it. I just placed an order which contains Joy and I will be sure to add this to the mix!

How's fa ry4 vs tfa ry4 double or tfa ry4 type?

2 points

by Krigaover 9 years ago

It is very similar to TFA RY4D, and I use it at the same %. RY4D has a bit of a chemical, scotch tape flavor that once I noticed, I couldn't un-notice. I don't get that from FA's. It's "cleaner" to me. Other than that, it's near identical.

I tried FA RY4 in a rocket puppy recipe and thought it was very feint and lacking. Perhaps I wasn't patient enough back then. Do you have steep time requirements when using the alternative?

Thanks.

YOU GOTS TO UPDATE US, SON. What about El Kamino? I friggen gave up on that thing. You ever find a good tweak for the FP/CDS/BM/Captain ratios?

Man, I gave up. It was so close but still so far away. One of these days I'll buy another bottle and work on it some more, it's just hard to justify paying retail prices, ya know?

EDIT: Link to updated DS clone.

I think you were on the right track with using smooth. Now that my arsenal is much larger I might give it a go. But, like you say, ...retail. Ugh.

My coworker asked me to make him a Deadly Sin clone a few months ago. I went through almost twenty iterations of the recipe, and finally settled on this recipe......

Deadly Sin Clone

15.35% flavor

  • .75% (INW) Biscuit
  • 1.5% (TPA) Butterscotch
  • 4% (FW) Yellow Cake
  • 1.75% (CAP) Cinnamon Danish v2
  • .5% (TPA) DX Caramel Original
  • .1% (FA) MTS Vape Wizard
  • 6% (TPA) RY4 Double
  • .75% Sweetener

I find that most of the Deadly Sin clone recipes use a custard or meringue in the base to make it more creamy. I tried with so many custards and meringues, and the profile was never correct. Fortunately I had my friend over for a mix session a few weeks ago and we were mixing up a recipe with some (FW) Yellow Cake in it. He noticed that the original Deadly Sin had a Yellow Cake note to it.. and it was actually a lot of the smell in the original. We tried many different recipes including Yellow Cake, and came up with the above recipe which smells, tastes and looks just like the original Deadly Sin.

I'll save this for later use. I already have a ridiculous amount of juice steeping and will probably vape through most before I mix again. It looks like a soils recipe. I'd be curious to try the original again after all of these years and compare with your recipe.

Sounds great! I'm making this in an hour. I'm currently trying to recreate sagamore which is a vanilla cream/cake ry4. Check that out if you like these profiles. I'm currently on v2 which is still dry AF. But try adding some AP to your ry4 for a little boost.

I don't enjoy the flavor of AP and think it can take over a recipe very quickly. Suggestions?

Normally I'll use tfa ry4 double and AP around 8:1 ratio and you really don't notice any corn chip taste or any grainy texture. Somehow the AP just works with ry4 tastes and steeps well with it... I think it softens the ry4 Carmel harshness and brings out the vanilla sweetness.

/u/ry4adver had some good notes on it but it looks like he's MIA for the last ten months. Try looking through his posts.

All I can say is maybe try it at a low percent and test a few ten ml batches with and without it and see how it changes the flavors to you.

Caveat emptor: FW Butterscotch is lousy with diacetyl. That said, looks like a delicious take on a classic.

Hmm, suggestions on alternatives?

I just whipped this up:

  • 5% RY4 Double (TFA)
  • 3% Butterscotch (FLV)
  • 2% Cinnamon Roll (FW)
  • 1% Cinnamon Danish Swirl (CAP)
  • 1% Vanilla Custard (CAP)
  • 1% Vanilla Custard (FLV)

Didn't even wait. Vaping it now. Delicious.

FLV Butterscotch DOES contain diacetyl in the same amount as FW (~1800mcg). So... that's a long way of saying "no" :)

I seriously just learned in the course of writing this post that FLV and FW butterscotch has similar levels of diacetyl. I feel a bit foolish, but I'm gonna vape all 30ml of this down anyway.

This looks incredible! I don't own any FLV yet but will add them to my arsenal. Also I may be one of the few who isn't worried about diacetyl. I'm almost positive the cigarettes I used to smoke contained much more.

Fw butterscotch ripple tastes great with ry4 but I have no idea about it's ingredients.

/u/xXwhite_whaleXx I just wanted to thank you for sharing this - it is outstanding! Long story short, when I started vaping 2 years ago, only RY4's did it for me. Until one that was like an overdose of Caramel. It put me off Caramel and RY4's.

This recipe though, being based on such a popular juice (not that I've had Deadly Sin), and the fact that it was light in percentages got me to buy in... and I'm so glad I did.

This will definitely be a regular for me, so thank you very much!

You're welcome! I can't take all of the credit of course. This recipe is the ADV of ADVs for me. I always have enough on hand so this can steep a minimum of 2 weeks. Absolutely delicious.
