Is Flavor West going to reformulate?
submitted over 9 years ago by greeneggsandram

I like a lot of their flavors and with the recent discovery of their sugar content, they can't be making much in sales to the DIY community. So has anyone heard anything?

This, and the fact that most of the DIY community is still ignorant to the information. There is still a ton of recipes with yellow cake coming out on ELR every day. Reddit may be aware but there is a plethora of other DIY fourms.

Is vaping their target market, or were they just another flavor company before vaping got big?

Don't forget Facebook groups either. There is so much stupidity & noobishness being spread in all those groups.

Some DIYers may be aware but accepting of the risk, like me. I shy away from the super high sugar syrup flavors, but the D/A/AP stuff Im not too worried about.

Im sure ejuice use is still a small % of their sales vs candy and other sweets , we as a community have quite the egos!

I must have missed the Flavor West drama.

If I am currently using their flavors should I stop?

Depends on the flavor, there's a list floating around somewhere. The big hubbub was regarding yellow cake, which you probably want to drastically cut down/drop altogether from your recipes.

Juic.org

Flavors > concerning flavors tab for the list.

Does this mean no more Rhodonite? :(

(FW Yellow Cake 1%)

It's really up to you, but I'm done using yellow cake in juices. That was my only FW flavor with fructose.

I'm going to miss /u/enyawreklaw 's Rhodonite :(

But I'm on the verge of tears every day from not vaping down mL after mL of /u/Botboy141 's Honey Nut Cheerios

I hope not. I use quite a number of their flavorings these days and I like them the way they are.

Stupid question.

Why should I be worried about sugar? Is it the possibility of it oxidizing on a hot coil?

I don't think you understand what oxidation means.

Sugar burns at 350F, temperatures easily reached by vaping. Burning sugar can create acetaldehyde, a carcinogen with some pretty gnarly side-effects that can occur as low as 10PPM. Hit up Wikipedia to learn more about it.

So... I looked at Wikipedia but it says there are numerous other things ethanal is in. Things like bread, coffee, and alcohol. It is a carcinogen but I didn't find anything about side effects from concentrations as low as 10PPM. An interesting thing is that apparently it causes hangovers.

What I'm trying to say, is what am I missing?

.......ethanol is the exact same thing as alcohol, & you Googled alcohol instead of Acetaldehyde.

Oh so is that what the burning taste is when using recipes with a lot of yellow cake? Any alternatives?
