24
2 recipes and my recent obsession with creating a good cream base.
submitted over 9 years ago by matthewkocanda

Good morning friends,

While I anxiously wait for my phone interview for a job that I would actually enjoy, I figured I'd try to occupy myself and some time by posting two of the newest recipes I'm working on. I'll keep the intro short, but these are unnamed and truly v1 recipes, but I still think they are good enough to enjoy as is, hence me posting them up here.

Banana Cream

Ingredients

  • TFA Strawberry Ripe at 7%
  • TFA Dragonfruit at 2.5%
  • TFA Banana Cream at 3%
  • FA Lime Tahiti Cold Press at 0.4%
  • CAP Marshmallow at 1.5%
  • FA Vienna Cream at 0.4%

Tasting Notes

TFA Strawberry Ripe/TFA Dragonfruit - I got overzealous with this mix, bringing this combination up to almost 10%, but I thought it was necessary due to the potency of TFA Banana Cream. I think it's muted too much at this high of a percent, going to try dropping it down for v2.

TFA Banana Cream - I started this recipe because I was trying to find a strawberry banana eliquid that wasn't the Nana Cream clone. While it's a good recipe, I just don't enjoy it. Possibly because I use TFA BC instead of the called-for LA BC, but with what I have on hand, I like this recipe more, so I'm going to keep working on it.

CAP Marshmallow - this has been my go-to flavour lately to avoid using TFA Cotton Candy or any other type of sweetener. I like marshmallow because it adds sweetness, but also adds a velvety mouthfeel that really plays nicely in this recipe.

FA Lime Tahiti CP/FA Vienna Cream - the citrus really adds something nice to the mix as a whole, but plays even better with the cream base. It keeps the mix from being too sweet, adds a nice brightness to the flavour profile, and cuts through and seems to prevent the creams from muting the recipe. Stands up nicely to the steep and works beautifully at this percentage. Haven't tried going higher, don't think I will.

Steep time - great as a shake and vape, gets better with time.

Berry Cream

Ingredients

  • TFA Strawberry Ripe at 6%
  • TFA Dragonfruit at 2%
  • CAP Harvest Berry at 1%
  • TFA Cheesecake Graham Crust at 2%
  • CAP Marshmallow at 1%
  • CAP Vanilla Cupcake at 2%
  • FA Torrone at 0.4%

Tasting Notes

Just mixed this up a few hours ago, so the main notes I can gather come simply from a shake and vape. The Harvest Berry is quite an overpowering flavour, but it seems to work in this mix. I might end up lowering it even more after I see what happens with a steep. The CAP Vanilla Cupcake is a great flavour for a cream base, because it adds a nice fluffiness and vanilla note without adding more creams to possibly overpower or dilute the recipe.

Alright, huge post. The flavour notes on the berry cream recipe might be edited as time goes on and the steep allows for a stronger profile that I can describe. But these both work well as shake and vape recipes if you're looking for a mellow and smooth fruit and cream recipe.

As always, suggestions and ideas are welcome, as these are really early on in the development stage. Happy Friday everyone!

Cheers.

This makes me chuckle. I want an alternative to the original because I don't like it, but I've never tried it...Anyways, here's another option.

Ba'nana Cream (uses TFA Banana Cream)

Yeaaah I realize that what I said kinda makes me sound like a dick. Not my intent at all obviously. Pretty much just trying to find my own banana cream recipe that I like. Would have been better to word it that way initially haha.

I read Strawberry Ripe as Banana Ripe 6% and puked in my mouth a little bit.

Or did you get a ninja edit in?

I think you must have misread it from the beginning, my friend. Haven't edited it at all haha. Banana Ripe at any percentage makes me want to puke in my mouth.

Yup, I just misread them then.

I'll try Banana Cream out in a little bit.

Not a fan of any of the cheese cakes, so I will have to respectively decline trying the second one.

I don't particularly dig them either, and I might omit it entirely in that second recipe. I have been trying to find a good percentage that works in a recipe and it just isn't there. At this point I'm just trying everything to find that good cream base.

Thanks man. I hate phone interviews. They make me so fucking anxious and I never feel like I make a good impression. Hopefully I did well this time.

Hahahaha I just noticed that today. I was looking through my recipes and was like, "fuck, I use this as a base in almost every recipe." I promise I'll switch it up for my next one haha.

you're a brave person to be able to use banana to a mix. I've tried banana in the past and all of the mixes either tasted like feet or just meh, even after long steep. but then again, i've only tried those from tfa. maybe other brands taste better..
