Ejecta v2.0 (better doughnut)
submitted over 9 years ago by matthewkocanda

Welp, I literally posted up my first attempt at this recipe only a few hours ago, so I'm sorry for the multiple post. I won't make a massive post about the flavour notes, just about the changes I've made. If you wanna read the earlier notes, visit the aforementioned post.

Ejecta v2.0

  • CAP Glazed Doughnut at 4%
  • FA Joy at 0.75%
  • FW Yellow Cake at 1.5%
  • INW Biscuit at 0.75%
  • CAP Sweet Cream at 1.5%
  • TFA Meringue at 0.5%
  • FA Torrone at 0.4%
  • CAP Marshmallow at 0.75%
  • TFA Silly Rabbit at 2%
  • TFA Cotton Candy at 0.5%

Flavour note changes

FW Yellow Cake - I added 0.5% of this to the earlier attempt because I thought adding a little more of this might increase the bakery feel to it. It definitely worked out.

CAP Sweet Cream - I lowered this because /u/tranceinate got all Walter White on me with some chemistry and let me know that the amount of creams I was using in the recipe (didn't even entirely realize it), was muting everything as a whole. Leaving CAP Sweet Cream as the only cream in the mix, and lowering it to 1.5% was perfect. It adds some of that creamy element that I wanted, but it is much more in the background now.

TFA Meringue/FA Torrone - I've seen some bakery recipes throwing these flavours around and I thought it'd work really well in this recipe. And it does. A great substitution for typical sweeteners. The torrone adds a bit of a powdered sugar mouthfeel, while the meringue just adds a fluffy sugary sweetness.

TFA Silly Rabbit - THIS. Exactly what I wanted in here. Although sprinkles on a doughnut are nothing more than chalky sugar, I wanted some sort of fruity candy note in here to cut into the bakery flavour. This works perfectly instead of the Fruit Circles with Milk. I think at 2% it shines beautifully.

TFA Cotton Candy - this definitely seems optional. With the CAP Marshmallow/TFA Meringue/FA Torrone combo in this mix, I think cotton candy is overkill on the sweetness. While I do like it here, I think it'd get old very fast. But, this makes the recipe pair incredibly well with a hot cup of black coffee. Vape this and you won't need any cream.

Steep time - Obviously I just mixed this up. And it's good. So as a shake and vape, it works nicely. But I have a feeling that everything will flesh out in time. I noticed in my last 4 or 5 attempts at this, the doughnut flavour really pops after about 2 days. So enjoy as a shake and vape, but save some for steeping. I think it'll be better.

Alright, now I'm done. For now. As it stands, this mix actually works, and I'm proud to put my name to it. I'm leaving the previous post up for posterity, but feel free to take it down mods, I ain't trying to flood the board. Mix this one up if you're wanting to try my first real doughnut attempt that works.

I'm gonna go get drunk now. I spent all day mixing when I had real things I needed to work on. Fuck it. There's always tomorrow.

Also worth noting, I've been messing with recipes all fucking day. My olfactory senses are probably fucked beyond reprieve for tonight. So if this actually sucks, please let me know. I just was excited and satisfied because it actually had some decent flavour.

FW Yellow Cake?

That's pretty taboo around here these days.

Fuck it, the taste overwhelms all the negative points, in my book.

I always thought Yellow Cake was pretty meh, but wait til you try FLV Cupcake Batter.

It's everything I dreamed it would be.

What percentage are you using it at? I'm still hovering around 4%. Trying to use it to replace YC, but I've not had much luck at the same percentages.

I haven't messed with much FLV yet. It's so pricey lol

I threw out the flavoring, but I'm having a hard time throwing out my 100 ml bottle of pineapple upside down cake. So good. So good.

Had no idea about that, any particular reason behind the hate?

A very particular reason. There's fructose in the flavoring.

Fructose releases carcinogens when burned.

Fuck. I did not know this. Welp, guess it's back to the drawing board on getting that cakey flavour in there. Thanks for letting me know.

A lot of their flavors are now confirmed as having Fructose or Glucose-Fructose syrup(Yellow Cake is 30% Sugar Syrup by weight!)

If you didn't know, burning sugar can create Acetaldehyde, a carcinogen.

> Acetaldehyde is an irritant of the skin, eyes, mucous membranes, throat, and respiratory tract. This occurs at concentrations up to 1000 ppm. Symptoms of exposure to this compound include nausea, vomiting, and headache. These symptoms may not happen immediately. The perception threshold for acetaldehyde in air is in the range between 0.07 and 0.25 ppm.[15] At such concentrations, the fruity odor of acetaldehyde is apparent. Conjunctival irritations have been observed after a 15-minute exposure to concentrations of 25 and 50 ppm, but transient conjunctivitis and irritation of the respiratory tract have been reported after exposure to 200 ppm acetaldehyde for 15 minutes. It has a general narcotic action and large doses can even cause death by respiratory paralysis. It may also cause drowsiness, delirium, hallucinations, and loss of intelligence. Exposure may also cause severe damage to the mouth, throat, and stomach; accumulation of fluid in the lungs, chronic respiratory disease, kidney and liver damage, throat irritation, dizziness, reddening, and swelling of the skin.

Okay wow. Thank you for that wealth of information. I did not know this about that flavour and I'm glad I do now. Time to find something else to replace that flavour with. Apologies to anyone that is unhappy with my use of this flavour. Blah.

Is this list compiled anywhere?

Fuck, I wish I had known this, I just ordered 4oz of this shit. Oh well, it's only $10 I guess. Time to find a good replacement.

I'm one of those that absolutely despises CAP Glazed Donut anywhere about 0.5% in a recipe. I find it can easily become the dominate flavour at any % higher once steeped.

Your recipe uses a lot of the same ingredients that I use in my doughnut vapes. I would say other than Glazed Donut at 4% (due to my personal preference), it looks like a good donut vape!

There's a liquid on the market which is literally 22% glazed donut, 2% em and 1.5% sucrolose. Absolutely horrendous!

Hmmm, might depend on the steep time to be palatable. I made a 10% mix for the hell of it and after 3 weeks it still tastes strong, but when I vape it I get almost nothing out of it. I agree though that vaping 22% freshly made would probably be gag inducing. I don't think CAP glazed donut works as a standalone in any way shape or form.

I mixed this up with what I had. I subbed TFA Meringue for FA Meringue and CAP Sweet Cream for TFA DX Sweet Cream. I dropped the Silly Rabbit because I dont have it. I dropped the Cotton Candy cuz I figured it didnt need the sweetener.

This turned out extra delicious! It doesnt really taste like donuts, but almost exactly like carnival funnel cake with powdered sugar topping. Its sweet and doughy. It ended up being lighter than some other bakery stuff like rhodonite or strawberry shortcake bar.

What do you think about adding some stronger fruity stuff as "filling"? I was thinking INW Raspberry or Strawberry at 0.25% or maybe even lower.

All in all a very delicious recipe! Thank you!

I'm glad you liked it! I kinda put a hold on honing in on this recipe because it just wasn't working out with what I had at the time, but since my last flavour order, I think I'm going to revisit it with some new ideas I have.

There is a lot "wrong" with this recipe in terms of trying to be a doughnut type recipe. When I mixed it up and let it steep, it was good, but not even close to what I was going for. Without the sweetener, it definitely turns into a good type of funnel cake type recipe with just a touch of the fruity sweetness of a frosted doughnut. But I do agree, it's a lot less heavy than most bakery vapes I've had, and I am happy about that.

And yeah, I've been thinking about what kind of flavours I could use to boost the "fruit" aspect. Although, I'm not entirely trying to create a filled doughnut flavour profile. The inspiration here was those pink frosted doughnuts from Dunkin Donuts. When I was going to college in Chicago, there was a DD right across from my school, and during every break from studio, I would run there for a coffee and that exact doughnut. I wanted to get that pink frosted doughnut flavour in a vape. Still tinkering, but if I nail it, I'll be so hyped.

Although, I reckon adding one of those intense fruit flavours with some marzipan and a touch of sweetener might create that fruit filling.

Sounds like you had some good inspiration for the recipe!

I tried it with .25% INW Strawberry and it didn't really turn out. I'm looking at Marzipan and maybe adding some cotton candy to it. I may just drop that all together though, cuz now I'm thinking I want to run with this funnel cake idea and see if I can refine it a little more! Maybe throw a little whipped cream in?

Anyway, thanks for the inspiration. I've been eyeballing your drunken pears recipe and am about to place another flavor order to get the missing pieces for that. I've been dying to find something to work Pear into that isn't just fruit!
