Finally making the switch to mixing by weight

So I have mainly been lurking here for a while, but I have found that it is a great place to come for info or to get some questions answered.

So I know that mixing by volume and not by weight is not the preferred method. So I have been toying with the idea of making the switch. I was browsing Amazon today for scales and could not remember what the necessary features are that will help with DIY. So I came to this sub and did a simple search of "scale".

Thanks to /u/Botboy141 and his post about an intro to mixing by weight.

I picked up all the items mentioned in the thread: scale, pipettes, and some dropper bottles for my pg, vg, and nic.

I am looking forward to making the switch and thanks to this community for having the information to help out.

Congratulations. I'm glad people start with syringes. I did. It made me appreciate the ease of using a scale. Welcome to the scale cult.

Also, make sure you get the 500g .01 scale. The link on botboy's guide gives 3 options. I accidentally got the wrong one. I'm glad I have it, but it made small mixes a PITA until I got the 500g one.

I got the LB-501. Description says it is 500g to .01.

I really like that scale. In case you're unaware, the auto shutoff is enabled when using batteries. Ditch them and use the AC adapter.

I feel the same way. I started with syringes and I always suggest people switch to mixing by weight. But I think working with syringes first help new mixers get their bearings.

Congrats on the switch. Mixing by weight is the way to go, and you'll immediately love how much quicker you can mix and experiment. Enjoy :)

Just got my AWS501 yesterday. It's amazing how quickly you can mix up a batch. Only thing I would love now is some dropper bottles for my flavor. Using pipettes works but it's still kinda difficult to not put in too much. And I worry about cross contamination.

You can always buy like 100 15mL bottles to transfer your flavorings into and then you can use the rest of the bottles for test batches

My last syringe broke the other day and I've been unfortunately mixing by drops to get by until I order a scale.

Not going back to volume.
