Hello Reddits. We meet again.
So a couple people found interest in this recipe that I mentioned in another thread. After looking through my tasting notes, I realized it was a drunken creation that I did not accurately record. This is not the best vanilla wafer banana pudding recipe in the world, but just a tribute.
Vanilla Wafer Banana Pudding|% ---|--- Banana Cream (LA)|4.5 Banana Cream (TFA)|1.5 Banana Ripe (TFA)|.25 Sugar Cookie (CAP)|.5 Vanilla Swirl (TFA)|.75 Meringue (FA)|.25
Two Main tasting notes to this recipe: Banana Pudding & Vanilla Wafers
Banana Pudding:
So I will put this in one of my own threads rather than commenting it once again. To me, Banana Cream (LA) tastes exactly like you pureed a banana with a little bit of cream. Banana has a natural creaminess to it when you put it in a smoothie. This is exactly what it tastes like to me. I have no clue where people get candy and runts from when they describe this flavor, because I don't taste it. I hate candied banana. I would never use this flavor if it tasted like that to me.
Alright, so we have our base banana flavor. Now we need a shining top note. That's where Banana Ripe comes in. It adds a sharp accent of banana, but we don't want too much. It becomes over-powering very quickly. That's why it's used at a meager .25%. Otherwise, you'll feel like you're eating a banana peel.
Now for a nice creaminess. Tada! Banana Cream (TFA). Now, this tastes like artificial banana to me. Cue eating a cup of banana pudding with our dear old friend Mr. Bill Cosby. A little goes a long way. Add too much and it completely drowns out the other banana flavorings with watered down pudding.
Lastly, a wonderful sweetness. Mer-inh-gay (FA). A much better sweetener than other options when you can fit it into your recipe. So much sharper than EM without muting flavors or gunking coils like sucralose.
Vanilla Wafer:
Banana Cream (TFA) adds a decent bit of this flavor, but its soggy, like you found it in the back of your fridge a week after Thanksgiving. We need to sharpen it up and bring the taste out. This is where we find Sugar Cookie (CAP). It adds a nice buttery, fresh sugar cookie. It's not too dry like Cookie (FA) which just inputs too much harsh dryness. After all, it is supposed to be soaked in pudding.
Joy (FA) just sorta rounds out the cookie aspect to this at a very low percentage. I tried Biscuit and AP, but even at 1 drop per 30ml, both just made it way too sharp and the flavor just wasn't right. We want all these flavors blending together.
edit: After going back and making another batch without Joy (FA), I'm not entirely sure it's needed, and I don't think I used it in the original recipe. I'll just have to let these steep and see which one I like better after a week. Between Banana Cream (TFA) and Sugar Cookie (CAP), I think the cookie note is exactly what I'm looking for.
Lastly, Vanilla Swirl. I don't think I have to explain why it was used. It adds Vanilla to the wafer. Creaminess to the banana pudding. I love this flavor. This flavor is love.
Couldn't remember the best vanilla wafer banana pudding recipe in the world. This is a tribute. Lol'd at the D reference. Thanks for this
I have all of these except the meringue. Steep time? I know LorAnn's Banana Cream tastes a little raw when its fresh
It's pretty much a shake and vape with how much fruit is in it. It's pretty magical after a week though.
Meringue is probably the only flavor I would say you could leave out. Its only job is to add a little powdered sugar sweetness. If you have sucralose, just add a couple drops of that instead, and increase vanilla swirl by .25% for a little extra creaminess.
Thanks. I just mixed up a batch with sucralose sweetener. I dripped a little on my finger to taste it and I really like it. Gonna let it steep for 7-10 days and try it . Usually when I do LA Banana Cream, I use .6ml, nowhere near what your recipe calls for but we'll see once its steeped.
Thanks for getting this together for us man, this sounds awesome.
Hope you like it!
Once I get the stuff to make it I'm sure I will
Thanks for sharing, definitely going to try this one out. Missing the CAP Sugar Cookie currently, but thinking I might try subbing some TFA Cinnamon Sugar Cookie in the meantime.
Haven't tried that one. Let me know how it turns out.
Just tried it this morning after a sit overnight... It's very good, pretty light, with a Nilla Wafer-esque note to it. Going to let it sit another couple of days and check back. Good recipe, thanks again...
