Placid clone that's almost perfect
submitted over 9 years ago by NorthNJ

I made this a week ago and after 3 days it was so close I posted it on the clone thread. After a week of steeping it is very close but I think we can get it closer.

Placid clone 99%

Honeysuckle Tfa. @ 3%

Pear Tfa. @ 7%

Strawberry Tfa. @ 5%

Key Lime Tfa. @ 1%

Bitter wizard FA. @ 0.6 - 1%

Edit- I recommend using glass bottles or maybe hdpe plastic. I tried using 10 ml ldpe bottles and the smell was off. (Maybe I'm paranoid but I'm worried about what a plastic tank cracker (Tfa pear) might do too soft plastic).

Honeysuckle Tfa @ 5% works well but it doesn't smell as strong as the real deal.

Edit 3-19-16 - after steeping for honeysuckle was too much at 5% . Try it at 3%

Pear Tfa - I've tried many pears (fw, Inw, fa, cap, la) and Tfa is definitely the right one. I think 7% might still be too low, try it at 8-9-10%.

Key lime Tfa - at 2% is perfect imo. I tried a bunch of different limes and while fa lime Tahiti Cold pressed is good, it makes it too "limey"

Edit- after a week I think 2% might be a little high. I'm going to try with higher percentages of honeysuckle and strawberry. Gonna also try lowering key Limes to 1 and 1.5% . Since the bitter wizard does such a good job getting rid of sweetness I'm going to try lime Tahiti Cold pressed around .5% and see where that goes.

Edit- I like it better at 1% now. It has less of a throat hit.

Strawberry Tfa - this strawberry is perfect here. I'm going to try strawberry (fw) which is also close.

Bitter wizard FA 1% - this is the most important thing in the recipe. The original has a bitterness that I couldn't emulate until I figured this out. If you have the original placid, take a hit of it and then immediately take a hit of a sweet juice and see for yourself how it cuts the sweetness. Even @ 0.2% you can see how much of a difference it makes.

After months of attempts I finally have something that I can honestly say is very close (I think almost identical). Because of the high percentage of flavoring it smells as strong as the original and is "muted" like it. Try it out and you won't be disappointed.

There is another Placid clone with only 4 flavors , i think it's everything you have except Bitter Wizard but it has FA lime cold pressed.

I made a couple today with the lime c.p. @ .6 and .8% . I'll try adding more tomorrow if it needs it. It sucks that I have to use glass bottles for all the testing. I tried using 10ml plastics and it smelled and tasted different. I guess hdpe bottles would work.

I never tried "Placid" so i don't know if it's closer with the " lime cold pressed" or what you use .

Am I crazy, because I'm pretty sure Placid has koolada in it. Why isn't it in anybody's recipes?

3 points

by KeggsNAover 9 years agoMixologist

Never had a cooling sensation from vaping placid. Koolada is what usually causes the cooling effect so I'd have to say no to it for this.

1 points

by nderpover 9 years ago

It might be much less than usual but I feel like there is.

2 points

by titan623over 9 years ago

I get no cooling sensation from it.

I've vaped a little more than a liter of placid.

Owch pricy, good thing we have awesome people working on clones :D

I know! It's the one true adv I found. Id always reup during sales. I'm definitely very curious to try this recipe out.

I never noticed but I'll give it a shot tomorrow. Do you feel the coolness or can you just tell it's in there?

1 points

by nderpover 9 years ago

I felt a light coolness. Given I've only had about 30ml of it ever and haven't messed much with koolada, but I don't think I'm wrong.

1 points

by nderpover 9 years ago

I might be wrong. Brb ordering placid soon to make sure I'm not crazy.

Thanks for your input. I can finally use this year-old koolada

What percentage would you use in this recipe?

1 points

by NorthNJover 9 years ago

I haven't tried it with the koolada yet but I just compared it with the original and I definitely know what you're talking about. At this point a slight coolness is the only difference I taste. I'm going to try a drop of it tomorrow when I have the time.

It is effectively Key Lime that is inside (GCMS tested)

by onmywaydownnowover 9 years agoMixologist

Oh well i'm wrong then haha. maybe its just a low level of key lime. I'll have to try this new one listed here and compare to my older v7 placid.

I need to mix this one up to see how it is, but it seems like honeysuckle is real high. I can hardly taste the honey suckle in placid. In every juice that I've used honeysuckle, its very prominent even at like 1%. I still have quite a bit of placid left over from their black Friday sale, so I will mix a batch up and do a bit of compare/ contrast.

by NorthNJover 9 years ago

I tried the honeysuckle at 2,4, and 5% . The higher I use the closer it is in smell and color. I made a couple with 7% last night. Edit - 3% seems to be a good percentage.

I would also suggest trying other citrus flavors in place of Bitter Wizard. Lemon Water Soluble from TPA is insanely good in the placid mix. Even FA Raspberry is an interesting substitute. Tutti Fruitti is also excellent. Been vaping the lemon water soluble one though for the last 4 months every day and I can say it's really good. Good post!

Just tried this. Never tried placid, but holy shit it's really good. Great job!

Thanks! I have something even closer to the original. Swap Tfa strawberry for fw 5% and add 1% golden pineapple (cap)

1 points

by Jlwojcikover 9 years ago

I'll put those in my next order. Thanks for sharing the recipe!

by JustAnHumanover 9 years ago

Could you post an update to the recipe? I also saw that you played with the amount of honeysuckle. Golden pineapple is a flavor from cap right? Also I only have sweet strab from cap can it work? Thank you for this dedication!!!

You're welcome! As long as you have 1% bitter wizard in the mix, I think all versions of strawberry are good.

There's a few more combinations I'm going to try before I post an edit.

To start this story, let me say this was the first recipe I found in this sub was yours, and I had never tried placid before. But the reason I wanted to get into diy was that I hadn't really found a honeysuckle flavor I enjoyed. I ordered the necessary supplies for this recipe and this will definitely be my ADV for a long to like to come! Excellent and I even ordered placid since (just got it today) and man I'm impressed how damn close your recipe is. I don't know whether to thank you or curse you for getting me started down this rabbit hole... But seriously 99.99999% to the original placid bravo

Glad to help. This sub has saved me thousands on overpriced juice and hopefully it does for you.

Wanted to update my post: this recipe is the one that finally prompted me to order a full diy setup. Hope I didn't forget anything, I spent about $100 to get the flavors for this and a nana cream clone, along with a scale and syringes, bottles, and all that.

Thank you!

You should buy some glass bottles for the placid if you didn't already. I don't like placid in plastic but test it out for yourself.

I did in fact grab glass bottles. Dropper bottles for juice and some brown glass storage bottles for storing nic in the freezer...

These are good notes. I don't have Bitter Wizard, but, where I just mixed up the accepted Placid clone on ELR (and not tested yet) I'll add it to my next "to buy" list and give this a go.

Bitter wizard is a must. That strong honeysuckle (nail polish) smell of the original comes out when I use fa lime cold pressed. I'm going to start playing with some lemon lime cap, lemon Sicily fa and then the inw strawberries

by Arch_l33tabout 9 years ago

I know this post is old but do you know of any websites that carry Bitter Wizard stateside? I went to order some today for your recipe but FlavourArt is (obviously, I realize) in Europe and shipping for that one flavor is very close to $35.00 lol

Which placid clone would that be? Fizz mustards?

by RuntDastardlyover 9 years agoOne of "The Damned"

Nah, this one; http://e-liquid-recipes.com/recipe/241794/Placid+clone+v7

As I've said, I've not even tried it yet. Also never tried the real Placid. Dunno how close it is, but, looking forward to trying this with some INW subs.

Looks similar. I haven't tried key lime with placid yet. I'm curious to try limetka from inw. I know it's not inw pear. I tried it recently with that and it's almost like a candied pear. Reminds me of green apple.

How is fizzmustards clone? I ordered my DIY stuff just to try it. I guess I'll know tomorrow anyway but some votes of confidence would put my mind at ease lol.

1 points

by titan623over 9 years ago

It's actually really good. It's sweeter, closer to placid after steeping a few months. I'm playing with the lime and honey suckle to try to see if it's closer to fresh placid and smooths out with steeping like the real deal.

1 points

by NorthNJover 9 years ago

After trying some mixes I realized that sweet strawberry (cap) makes this even closer in smell. I'm still really excited about the bitter wizard. It is truly amazing stuff.

1 points

Do you have a final version for this yet? Just curious. I just mixed up the recipe on top. Gonna let it steep now. Thanks!

1 points

by NorthNJover 9 years ago

I've made so many versions it's tough keeping track. I think the most important thing is the bitter wizard@ 1% and key lime tfa 1% max. I'll do some testing when I get a chance.

1 points

by bottomofthemapover 9 years ago

Thanks! That's just what I did. It smells really good so far.

I made a batch of this a while back. It's seriously like liquid crack to me. Good stuff awesome recipe. It's always in my rotation now.

I'm glad you like it. I have a nice Nana cream clone I'm working on. I'll probably post it when I get it almost perfect.
