Got my scale, got my massive flavour order, and I think I perfected this recipe.
submitted over 9 years ago by matthewkocanda

First and foremost, to anyone that's mixing with syringes, take the plunge and get yourself a scale. My mixing ability has gotten so much more refined, the time it takes has been significantly cut down, and it's just an infinitely cleaner process. I got that American Weigh LB-501 scale on Amazon and it's perfect. Also, I need to give a shoutout to Gremlin DIY for being my new source for flavours. They have a wicked selection, and if a flavour is out of stock, it's replaced rather quickly. The past few days have made me so much happier about DIY, and somehow, having this scale has made me more confident with experimenting. To put it simply, I've mixed up at least 50ml of different ideas in the past two days, where before, mixing just one batch of anything took forever.

Now that I've gotten that out of the way, let's revisit my Nebula recipe with some minor tweaks from before.

TFA Strawberry Ripe at 8%

TFA Pineapple at 2.5%

TFA Dragonfruit at 3%

CAP Marshmallow at 0.5%

TFA Cotton Candy at 0.5%

TFA Koolada at 3 drops per 5ml

Steeping - So this is definitely a shake and vape recipe, and I haven't been able to keep a batch long enough to really see what happens with a steep, but my last attempt didn't have the Marshmallow and Cotton Candy in it, so although fruit mixes don't really need a steep, I wonder what will happen with those in there after a little time. This test is only 5ml so I won't get to see what happens with it, but I plan on mixing up another 5ml to stash away for a few days. In my opinion, just mix it, give it a good shake, and get to it.

Flavour notes - So, the response I got from the batch before was great, and it made me confident again. Someone actually gave it the ADV badge of approval which was a great feeling. What I like about this mix is that the Pineapple sits at the front. That tartness and intensity is the first thing you notice, but the Strawberry Ripe/Dragonfruit combo keeps it from being overpowered and too sour. It's balanced, and that's probably the best note I can give. As for this batch in comparison to the last one, I feel like the addition of Cotton Candy really adds a nice sweetness to the mix, I kept it at 0.5% because I'm not really trying to make it sweet like candy, but it adds that little extra punch that you get from the "premium" e-liquid. The Marshmallow seems to round the mix out and add a nice mouthfeel. Not really creamy, but smooth and somewhat "fluffy" I suppose. Finally, the Koolada at 3 drops per 5ml is perfect. I know some people were mixing up this initial recipe without the Koolada, but I encourage you to at least give it a shot in a small batch. I think it is what makes this recipe special. It shines in the exhale, which is what I was going for. I love the way Koolada feels in a mix, but I dislike when you notice it first. Having the fruits smack you in the face on the inhale, then the cooling element hits your lungs and throat on the exhale. I love this juice at 3-4 mg/ml of nicotine, because that percentage seems to compliment the throat hit from the Koolada. Perfect for when I'm drunk. Which is most of the time.

I'm really hyped on this recipe. Sorry for the massive amount of text, but I really wanted to give some details on this mix as it is honestly my first personal recipe that feels perfect. As always, let me know what you think, let me know if you have any more suggestions, and I hope you enjoy!

Cheers!

OP… You're sure right about the scale and mixing by weight! I started with syringes and mixed by volume for a month or two… It was truly tedious and cumbersome. And the cleanup drove me crazy!

Got the LB-501 scale, some large squeeze bottles for my VG, and began mixing by weight. What a difference! Faster, more accurate, and NO cleanup!

I've got all the flavors for your recipe and will mix some up and leave some feedback once I try it.

Mixing by weight is the way to go for sure. Trying to mix a 5ml tester with syringes was a nightmare and was never accurate. Now I can test things out quickly and not waste a bunch of flavours if the batch issue garbage.

And awesome, I look forward to any notes you may have :)

May give this a shot, not sure if you want any advice but that's a ton of pineapple as it's a super strong flavor, can prolly drop it to 1% and still get the same taste perhaps even better pineapple flavor. Sounds like a great recipe though, thanks for sharing :D

EDIT: Also, INW Cactus - few drops for fruity mixes can provide a really "wet" feel to your vape which I personally love for fruit mixes, should pick yourself up a 30mL bottle, it'll go far!

I'll give that a shot in the larger batch I make today. I hadn't even tried dropping the pineapple down even though I had been told before and seen that most recipes really only need 1% of the stuff.

And DAMN. I had a 30 ml of that Cactus in my cart when I was placing the order. But I was drunk while shopping and was editing my order before sending it off because I had made some dumb double orders. Must have clicked off the cactus as well. I knew the order was missing something haha. But I'll have to pick some up and try that out. I think it'd fit well in this mix.

Thanks again!

So I happen to have almost all of the components to be able to make this juice. All I'm missing is Cotton Candy.

My question is, have you experimented with replacing it with anything? Is Cotton Candy more of a cream flavor? Do you think a reasonable substitute would be something like Vanilla Swirl, or a true cream flavor?

Cotton Candy works as a substitute for Sweetener in my recipes. I don't like using Sweetener, but Cotton Candy works really well and has a more natural sugary feel to it. Honestly. It's not entirely needed in this recipe, just adds a little something extra. I wouldn't use a creamy flavour as a substitute, but if you try it with something like that, let me know how it works out :)

While I like your clever response I don't think my comment merits a down vote.

Yes. Yes it does. Offering to buy juice in DIY is strongly frowned upon.

I did not down vote or up vote. I stood neutral and decided to just comment.
