So I recently got into diying my juice. Having lots of fun and can't wait to start making more complex flavors. But, I've run into a snag with my nicotine.
I bought 100mg/ml nic in a 70pg/30vg base and am trying to understand the measurements to get 3mg. If my understand is correct, then 1ml=100mg. So, if I were to make 30ml of juice, I should use 0.09ml of nic, right? My calculator is calling for roughly .5ml and that seems like a lot. That would be 50mg, right?
Sorry for the dumb questions, but I'm really new to this and get easily confused and turned around. I just want to make sure that I can Vape without hacking up a lung like I have been doing.
Edit: Emailed vendor. Tried multiple suggestions and still have issues. Needless to say, I'm pretty upset.
Easy formula:
Target Concentration
-------------------- X Final Volume
Supply Concentration
Therefore:
3 mg/ml
--------- X 30 ml = .9 ml
100 mg/ml
That right there is the easiest way of saying it.
.9ml of nic for a finished 3mg 30ml bottle
Cool. That's what I thought.
In a related train of thought: how the fuck am I still alive? My nic was waaaaay too high before.
Edit. Wait, .9 or 0.09? When I tried .3 in a 10ml bottle it was almost unvapable. I was coughing after every hit.
Whether you believe it or not, to achieve 3mg using 100mg/ml nic in 30ml of juice, you need 0.9ml of it. Not 0.09, not 0.5, not 0.3.
I'm very confused by your calculator.
If it's harsh, there's could be multiple factors. Try it with only VG or a blend of VG and PG.
Nicotine is measured in mg/ml, milligrams per milliliter. One half ml of 100mg/ml is 50mg of nicotine, sure, but if you dilute with another 29.5ml of liquid (PG/VG/flavoring/etc.) your concentration will only be ~1.66mg/ml.
I feel like I'm being told multiple things by different sources. My calculator says to use .5ml of my 100mg/ml solution will equal 3mg. I put roughly .1ml of nic in my current mix which is a 10ml bottle. Wouldn't .3ml be better? I put .09 in my 30ml and haven't tried it yet, but doesn't that seem low?
I'm so confused. I feel pretty dumb atm. :/
I'm not sure what calculator you're using but the one on ELR is great. You input what concentration you bought and your target size and concentration, it spits out a volume and weight of nic to use.
I use 100mg nic, and choose to measure by volume, then verify with a weight measurement. Nic is the only thing I measure twice when mixing. It is probably your most expensive ingredient as well as the only truly dangerous ingredient.
Do yourself a favor and break your nicotine down. Even if you mess your math up, it's better to put too much 36mg/ml than 100mg/ml.
Breaking it down means premixing it? I haven't heard that term before.
Since you say you suck at maths... and I am not math wizard...
I did the math on my typical bottle size. I always make 50ml bottles of my regular mixes... when testing I make 10ml, but just pretend for a min that I only ever make 50ml bottles.... ( in your case, it sounds like 30 ml is your standard)..
ok, so for me, with my 50ml bottles, I "broke down" my nic to 50mg/ml. by mixing 50% pg with 50% nic in PG..
now when I make a 50ml bottle, i know that 1ml of the "broken down" nic, is 1ml/mg of my finished product. if i want 3mg finished product, I just use 3ml of the nic solution.
As stated I am not math wizard, but i think in your case, you want to go with 30mg/ml nic. (surely someone will correct me if i am wrong on that concentration) .. now when you make a 30ml bottle, you would add 1ml for each mg of total strength you want to that bottle... if you want a 3mg/ml bottle, you add 3mls of this "broken down" 30mg/ml nic. if you want a 5mg/ml bottle, you would add 5mls..
Again, remember, this only works if your bottle size never changes...
oh, and maybe look into a program to do the work for you. Ive been very happy with the results of the "ejuice me up" windows program.. works great.
Edit: for your 10ml sampler bottles, "break down" some nic to 10mg/ml, and use 1ml per ml/mg you want in your final bottle... and make sure to properly lable!!! you dont wnat to accidentially put 1ml of that 100mg in your tester bottle... that would be strong.
