So the whole reason why I got into DIY is because I wanted to make a vapable version of my favorite drink, Melon Madness from Juice it Up! (I know a company made theirs, but I've had the idea and drive before it was released.) I've been working really hard to perfect the recipe, and at one point, had it perfect, but my program deleted all the recipes and I have no idea what the percentages was. Sadly, I have to stop chasing the flavor due to my allergies to one of the main ingredients, Watermelon. Please feel free to change it up and comment what you did below to make it taste better for the community to enjoy! Here's the Recipe:
Ingredient | Percentage ---|--- Banana Cream (LA) | 1.5% Bavarian Cream (TFA) | 2.5% DragonFruit (TFA) | 1 Strawberry (TFA) | 5 Sweet Cream (TFA) | .5 Watermelon (TFA) | 3 Watermelon Candy (TFA) | 1
Here's the breakdown and why I used the flavors I used.
Original Ingredients
So the actual juice consists of:
Strawberry
Watermelon
Banana
Non-Fat Yogurt
Strawberry
I decided to go with TFA's strawberry because to me, it gave the most accurate "natural" strawberry flavor. I loved the sweetness of it and it was the tastiest out of sweet strawberry and strawberry ripe. I remember the original recipe having more that 5%, but I toned it down and to me it still tasted fine.
Watermelon
I decided to use to ingredients to create the watermelon flavor the smoothie had. The smoothie used a sweet, candy like watermelon juice and in order to achieve that, I used watermelon candy by TFA at 1% just to help push the watermelon flavor towards the liquid, candy like watermelon. Also, I used watermelon at 3% because I wanted it to pop out on top of the strawberry. Strawberry is still the main ingredient, but you still get a subtle watermelon, which I was going for.
Banana
Banana is what I had a lot of trouble with. In the actual juice, banana isn't very noticeable but you get a really really subtle banana taste. I decided to use LA's Banana Cream because it was a smooth banana taste, which I really liked. The problem I had with it was that it was very overpowering. I decided to use it at 1.5% so the taste was there, but just enough to become overpowered by the watermelon and strawberry.
Non-Fat Yogurt
I didn't have any non-fat yogurt and the only ingredients I had to work with that were "creamy" were Bavarian Cream and Sweet Cream. I used Bavarian cream as the prominent cream and it worked well because y ou get that creamy exhale. I used sweet cream by TFA to help out the Bavarian Cream just a bit and in the end, it really did. I used Bavarian Cream at 2.5% because I didn't want it to come out too strong, but as to help bring the other ingredients together.
DragonFruit
I found this flavor helped strawberry "pop" more when used at 1%, so I threw it in there and it really helped bring everything together.
I hope you guys enjoy this juice as much as I did when i tried it. Feel free to switch it up as it is not at it's perfected stage. Thank you everyone! I love this community and I'll be staying here for a while!
Interested in your allergy -- any other TFA flavors with the same allergic responses?
I'm alergic to watermelon as well! Doesn't matter if it's TFA or not, but if it has natural flavorings in the concentrate.
I can't vape any sort of melon, kiwi, and clementine/mandarin orange unless they are artificially flavored. It sucks.
Most of those ARE artificially flavored, so I'm curious what in the flavoring is a common component.
The only one that might be common is ethyl isovalerate -- but I've never heard of an allergic response to that. Watermelon, Kiwi, Citrus flavors use this -- energy drinks and blueberry, too!
I'll have to dig deeper, what sort of allergic response are you getting?
That's really interesting! I don't get hives or anything, but my windpipe closes down to about the width of a dime! Sometimes even smaller, it never closes entirely, but I've never let it get to that point. Basic after 3-5 pulls it feels like I'm breathing through a straw.
Thanks for sharing!
This looks like it would be something I would dig. I'll give it a shot once I get a few flavors I'm missing. Hoping to place an order today, so hopefully I'll report back within the next week.
