I've been playing around with single flavour MF mixes and finding the throat hit is quite rough with some of them.
Usual single flavour percentages I've tried are 1-1.5%. Strawberry & Watermelon seem to have quite a throat hit at these percentages, and I've had the same from strawberry at 0.5.
I mix at 70/30 vg/pg 1mg.
I haven't steeped them for too long yet, around a week.
Anyone else notice this with these or other MF flavours? Any tips? Thanks!
MF is solvent free except for citrus flavors. That's actually pure flavor.
My strawberry starts at 0.65% and goes up to 1.3%.
I suggest trying to do it nic free at first. What PG/VG?
I steep MF for anywhere from 2 weeks to 16 weeks (vanillas). But my GF shakes and vapes at least 30 of their flavors. No harshness ever.
Thanks - I'll try without nic, although I mix at 1mg - 30/70 pg/vg, and I'll let it steep longer before trying again.
The watermelon seems especially harsh - maybe it's just me, I just saw a recipe on ECX that uses 3.8% MF watermelon!
My GF just mentioned that she's gone as high as 3.9% with watermelon with extended steep times and gotten more flavor.
She also just told me that strawberry definitely is not a shake and vape for her, and that the flavors mature better over a period of weeks.
I always pre-dilute my MF concentrates into 100VG and let them pre-steep, so my dilutions work as a shake and vape because some of the harsher notes obviously air off over time. I don't make ANY MF shake and vapes. My current banana caramel cream is an 8 week steep at 10% dilution before I final mix-down and dispense for customers. I don't even remember ever trying it as a shake and vape. I'll do that Monday and see.
OK so long steeping time is obviously crucial here, I'm gonna put it aside and try to forget about it. Might mix up a 3% watermelon and see how that is after a month or so.
I think I've asked you before, but how long do you steep the dilutions before using them?
MF Strawberry is a weird one for me, I can't really taste it. It's the one I've had the longest and I have one single flavour mix at 1% that's about 2 months old, just vaguely strawberry-ish, but I'm one of the unfortunate who struggles to taste strawberry, gets pepper in VBIC etc.. ;-)
I do believe you may need to breath certain MF flavours as they are distilled using a type of alcohol
Medicine Flower/Lotus Flavors are undiluted superconcentrates, and they do not have a carrier liquid. No alcohol.
I like the 5ml samplers you guys do.. any chance of bigger sizes in future?
Certainly in the future! For now, larger sizes are available direct from the MF website or from several different aroma distribution companies. Just do some research on the whole "bottle shorting" issue that has arose before you make a purchase decision.
The longer they steep, the better they get; I have found at 3 weeks they start to really shine.
Black cherry, blueberry, and peach: start at around 0.5%
Raspberry and mango start around 1%
Lemon around 0.4%
Good luck, they are hard to work with, but oh so good when you get them right.
Thanks - even after a week the watermelon is fantastic, just finding it quite harsh. Have you tried wild raspberry? If so how is it different to the regular raspberry? Thinking of picking those up as well as black cherry and the chocolates.
I haven't tried wild raspberry yet, I want to try their tobacco absolute and about 30 others flavors. :)
I did learn that if you are getting a burnt taste it is a sign of too much flavor.
